Schaefer said today that they are still working on Ebo’s eligibility. Also Lambert is banged up and Chevallier has been good at the point. Also mentioned Allen-Taylor and A. Warren as standing out. Need Lambert to stay healthy this year. Orange-White scrimmage tomorrow night. Then scrimmage against the boys practice squad next week. Then the next week is first game.
Hannah Gusters?... I have no doubt she'll be a great player at Baylor, just surprised to see someone who has yet to play a collegiate game on the list.
The Orange v White scrimmage Vic mentioned the other day. Wish they had followed Oregon’s lead and broadcast it - maybe the next one.
On ESPNW today, they did an evaluation of the PAC-12. S. Prince was voted by all 3 experts as Newcomer of The Year. One of the experts thinks she is the most important player this year for Oregon. Thinks a lot of the offense will run through her.
I love this and hopefully it's a continuous thing. Gives a lot of insight and intel on things. One thing I did find flattering was that the coaching staff has a good feeling that Ebo will receive a waiver. Although they said she has not been practicing which is not true because she has so I assume they mean she has not been practicing with the first team until they hear something back.
Hmmm. This says 1pm but LHN has it televised at 2pm. Either one is wrong or the game has a one hour taped delay which would be odd.
I don’t pay too much attention to polls, especially preseason but Eeek. Texas not ranked in top 25. Texas A&M ranked 13th. We play them in a few weeks. I realize with all our changes we are a bit of an unknown entity. If the current squad isn’t aware of the rivalry, I’m sure Vic is.
Big 12 Virtual Media Day today...please post whatever you come across. Something he’s said several times about moving from MSU to Texas...
Another note from the conference today is that Vic said Elyssa Coleman will not play at all this upcoming season due to the injury she sustained in high school. Also saying that keeping Lambert healthy is the biggest problem they will have to face this year. I don't expect her to play in the first game so expect Chevalier to be the starting PG on Wednesday.
Don't shoot the messenger. Just going by what Vic said. He said she had surgery a couple of months ago from an injury she suffered her senior year of high school.
You are correct. Maybe she's having complications from the original injury or tweaked the knee again?
Hopefully this gets worked out before the scheduled game in Austin 12/9. This game was a bit of a head scratcher considering the distance.
Vic’s complete Big12 Media Day session (he starts at 1:25:40). Not much new but specifically said ACL surgery for Elyssa. @Jacob Johnson Big 12 Women's Basketball Coaches Preseason Teleconference
You referring to the “exhibition” mentioned below? I didn’t hear the interview but I assume it’s another Orange vs White scrimmage, probably in a more real game structure than the last.
In case anyone is interested and has an ESPN+ sub - will be thoroughly annoyed if the Longhorn episode is not re-aired on LHN. The Big 12 Conference will celebrate the beginning of the 2020-21 basketball season with “Big 12 Basketball Preview”, a 10-episode series featuring each of the Conference’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. The preview show will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with all 10 episodes available on Friday, November 20. ESPN reporters Matt Schick, LaChina Robinson and Fran Fraschilla will serve as hosts of “Big 12 Basketball Preview”. The episodes will feature comments from head coaches with Robinson providing commentary on the women’s teams while Fraschilla offers input on the men’s squads.
Thanks for the link. Mulkey- good interviewee. Gerlich- Good 1st showing. A couple of good comments among the coach speak. Coale- uncomfortable on the hot seat! Questions about the off season player comments. Now on to more easy questions for her. That’s where I am right now.
Found the interview where Vic describes the ‘exhibition’ game among other topics...exhibition will be against men’s practice squad but with Big12 refs. https://hornfm.com/2020/11/19/texas-womens-basketball-head-coach-vic-schaefer-interview-nov-19/
This isn’t Longhorn related but is a sign of the times we are in: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico's men's and women's basketball teams are temporarily relocating to Texas due to coronavirus restrictions in their home state. Athletic director Eddie Nunez said this week that the men's program will set up at South Plains College in Lubbock. The women will move to Amarillo and practice at West Texas A&M in nearby Canyon. Under New Mexico health guidelines, athletic departments currently do not allow games or workouts exceeding five people. Anyone who travels from outside the state also must quarantine for 14 days.
