Yep! I read a piece on the team Sunday that Herman and the other coaches have their hands full keeping this team together. IF we get a new coach, I won’t mind him sending the malcontents packing, play mostly frosh and rs-frosh and rebuilding. Or at a minimum, encourage the anti-tradition group to leave, because they ain’t gonna ever put their cleats on the field again.

WOW! This could really be a blessing in disguise for us. The way things are going in Tommie town, players opting out. Just saying!

Would anyone care if we didn't finish the season?

It WOULD afford the coaching staff an additional couple of weeks to update their resume...although a few of them have already been phoning in their coaching duties from the looks of certain aspects of on-field performance.

I always want to see the longhorns play.
Even if I don't see continual excellence on the field.
There is always some players making excellent plays during the course of the game.
I don't take football for granted. The off-season is so long. Just sayin.
UM, you are sunshine on a cloudy day.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several I wish I has not seen the Longhorns play
Cotton Bowl vs ND (the one a/ '77 season)
Freedom Bowl vs. Chuck Long/Haden Fry
    Cotton Bowl vs. Miami
    Sugar Bowl vs. VTech

I saw those too except for the Freedom Bowl and the way it turned out, I'm glad I missed it.

My first UT game was the '64 Cotton vs Navy. Before the game the IIRC the Navy HC made some long winded speech and then when Royal got the mike, he just said "We're Ready".

It was something like "When #2 defeats #1, #2 becomes the champion" and Royal responded as you said.

So you are ok next year if all JR's and Sr's quit after OU beats us by 4 TD's? There will be nothing left to play for... I don't get this mentality of its ok to quit on your team with 3 games left in the season.

    1) a single loss does not kill the season
    2) if the loss of that magnitude is because of coaching blunders, I cannot blame players for wanting to leave and go somewhere that has good coaching.
    3) the above two items do not mean I endorse the conduct, but I easily understand it.
    4) get your sponsor funds in if you are going to parse my words in a perverse manner

Thanks for the quote. I remember the Navy Coach talking, but couldn't remember exactly what it was he said. I was an excited 9 year old at the time, and just wanted the game to start, but what Coach Royal said was short and has stuck with me over the years. I've even used it as my opening statement in Court and, thank the Lord, proved I was.

Wayne Hardin (I think that’s his name) had been in Dallas all week talking ****. DKR was fuming but refused to reply until that famous quote and the look on his face.

Remember, Navy had been to Dallas that year and lost to SMU in The Cotton Bowl the night before the OU game.

In this case, I want to see the final two nails driven into the coffin.

Hardin's point was valid, that the game should have been to determine the Nation Champion instead of being effectively a scrimmage. To his credit, he stuck by it afterwards without weaseling, while also giving us credit. Something like "I said that when the top 2 teams play in a bowl, the winner should be the Champion. Texas won and they are Champions. They beat us and they earned it."

    Yes.

Are we going to Michigan our way out of the K-State game?

If the game is played I would take K-State and the 10 points in a heartbeat. Practically every game comes down to the last drive.

That tells you people were loading up on the points...that ML move also tells you there has been some hefty bets coming in on KSU to win outright.

That is sort of like watching the NFL when you live in San Diego, where it starts at 10am

Royal said the same thing before the 1971 Cotton Bowl. It didn't have the same effect. Notre Dame won 24-11.

On another note: I'm surprised we've tested positive for anything this season.

Texas has games remaining its players want to play… and win - Inside Texas

" .... Still, Texas has two games remaining, and those who plan to play, plan to win. “If you truly love the game of football and you love your teammates and you love this program, and you’re doing it for the right reasons, every game matters because it’s another opportunity to play the game that you love,” Ehlinger said Tuesday. “I think every game matters regardless of what you’re playing for.”

Ehlinger’s words should not be construed as a public rebuke of juniors Samuel Cosmi and Caden Sterns, who both opted out earlier this week to prepare for the NFL Draft. Ehlinger said he was “thankful for both of them” and “can’t be mad at them” because of the impact both had on his life.

    * * *
“This season isn’t finished, and they deserve to have my all and for me to give my best,” senior Ta’Quon Graham said Tuesday. “Until the final seconds tick off the clock of the last game, I’m going to give them all I got. That’s what they deserve.” Ehlinger had similar sentiments: “It’s unfortunate, and I would love to be competing for a championship. That was always something I wanted to do here, but I will never take my foot off the gas just because that’s out of sight.”

It is not just the players, either. Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was asked Wednesday if he planned on giving snaps to back-up quarterbacks Casey Thompson or Hudson Card ..... “We have not,” Yurcich replied. “I understand how there could be a lot of benefit towards that, but we’ve got to win these ballgames. Sam’s our guy. We’re giving him the reps, and we’re going to give him the best chance to make the most out of a great career and finish this thing strong.”
    * * *
“I’m kind of honed into these last two games because right now these next two games, they mean everything to me.” Graham said.

That's probably a bit generous to us. But before people start slamming our blocking, recall 3 - 8 or so years ago when our OLs were so bad we couldn't even effectively run our offenses. At least we can run our offense now. I'd put our current OL in the greatly improved from recent years, but still just a tad above average category for now. Cosmi is very good. Kerstetter is good. The young guys (Freshmen and Redshirt Freshmen) have much potential. Jones could be good but he's not there yet. That's how I see it.
