Tell me about it. We are back to being told to pump sunshine and not beat dead horses. What else is the internet good for?

    I’m late to the thread.

Tim Brando is about as bright as a burned out incandescent bulb, and probably about as relevant.

Been lurking on some Buckeye boards. Consensus there is that it's happening. They are terrified that their qb coach, Corey Dennis who happens to be Urban's son in law will follow him to Tx. When Ewers committed to Ohio State, he mentioned his relationship with Dennis.

    Where there’s smoke...

To me it doesn’t matter who flew up to meet with Urb and who didn’t. They would only go for two reasons; to talk UM into the job, or to make the formal offer.

While I cannot stand Herman, even though he’s an a**, he is also a human being. Talk about being a man without a country at the moment. Strange situation. He hasn’t been terminated, but he is clearly now Mr. Irrelevant. Then again, a $15,000,000 parting gift would certainly make my day.

Off topic. These threads are what make HornFans great. Dion stepped up when it was going down and built a great site that is very useful especially during these times. Hit the support button even if for a one time donation of $10 or a repeating donation of a small amount. Big amounts are good too. Just sponsor a great site!

this was news to me lol ... good stuff ...

There's another wrinkle to the Meyer/Herman intersection worth noting: Privately, Herman thinks Meyer has used his catbird seat at FOX to take potshots at Herman's Austin regime. More damning: Privately, Meyer thinks Herman was the "tattletale'' who told damaging truths about the underbelly of the Buckeyes program.

    Travis vs Thamel

College football hot seat: Will Michigan, Texas jobs open? Or will 2021 be craziest carousel ever?
For more than a decade, Texas lacked leadership and infrastructure and fell far behind its Big 12 peers. Texas’ practice facilities are worse than some high schools, as their practice bubble looks like the toxic waste dripped down from I-35 and turned into a cocoon. Texas relied on its brand so much that it became a misaligned mess with exponentially worse facilities than a majority of its Big 12 peers.

The facilities are finally changing with a long overdue $175 million dollar South End Zone project. Texas has always had the money but hasn’t figured out the right way to spend it. Now it appears willing to overspend for an elite coach. But can the Longhorns find one?

Texas AD Chris Del Conte’s play here appears to be shopping for Herman’s replacement and attempting to arrange something before having to make a public decision on Herman. This is a common tactic, but rarely do these shadow searches unfold under such scrutiny. The question will be if Texas strikes out — and Del Conte will aim Dabo-level high if Meyer passes as expected — how will everybody sputter forward and force smiles for Herman returning for a plank-walk season in 2021?

That first meeting with team note is particularly interesting...considering most of us view him as too player friendly and soft.

Nice to know that sports reporters are now allowed to file articles that are blatantly biased by their own team likes/dis-likes. It mimics the game broadcasters who argue turnovers based on homerism rather than rules.

Ian Boyd: "Why Tom Herman failed at Texas" - nice long read if you need the reminder

" ...Tom Herman earned his first head coaching job by coordinating an overpowering run game that propelled Ohio State to the Big 10 and then National Championship in 2014. He chose wisely, landing at Houston with a 7-5 team and Greg Ward Jr. at quarterback. He was also parked just a few hours from Austin where the Longhorns were in the midst of a Charlie Strong era off to a horrible start.

Everything clicked in year one. Herman deployed standard spread tactics with Ward and star receiver Demarcus Ayers to go 13-1 and win the AAC Championship. Ayers had 1221 receiving yards and Ward survived 197 carries to pick up 1114 yards at 5.7 ypc with 21 rushing touchdowns (including sack yardage!). Then Tom Herman signed a 5-star defensive tackle in Ed Oliver who helped the Cougars beat Oklahoma in the season opener, overcome injuries to Ward and the offensive line, and beat Lamar Jackson’s Louisville in primetime.

The penchant for big game performances, high level recruiting, apparently strong defensive hires, and spread offense competence made it all seem obvious Herman was the guy for Texas. The physical victory over Oklahoma really captured everyone’s imagination in Longhorn nation.

Herman’s strategy at Texas, from day one, was to build a power-spread offense to grind down smaller, less talented teams in the Big 12 by running the ball and facilitating great defense. Given the Longhorns were coming off a season in which their main back had rushed for over 2,000 yards behind an offensive line returning four starters, and power running quarterback Sam Ehlinger was enrolling early, things certainly appeared promising on this front.

Instead the 2017 offensive line and tight end were savaged by injuries and became an absolute train wreck. Sam Ehlinger and Shane Buechele each rotated in at quarterback while the other nursed fresh injuries. Texas’ ability to control games and dominate opponents in the box was off to the worst possible start.

Subsequent seasons saw improvement, but never dominance. Texas has had just two offensive linemen selected to the league’s All-Big 12 team during the Tom Herman era. Zach Shackleford was second team in 2018 and first team in 2019 while Sam Cosmi was second team in 2019 and will likely be first team in 2020. The tight end position has put just one player on the All-Big 12 list when Andrew Beck was named first team fullback in 2018. It’s not a coincidence this was the one truly solid season of the Tom Herman era....."

Which significantly impacts recruiting. I'd rather have one of the assistants at this point.

Herman's ability to recruit top line OL talent has been abysmal to say the least...........you can have all world skill position players but if the blocking isnt there they become pedestrian.
