The Cowboys' early sloppiness is probably at least equal to ours today. Nice slam dunk and nice steal.

    Pokes up 7-4 early.

Our D is good to very good and our shooting is a bit off early.

Do my eyes deceive me, or have we not run a few offensive set plays to get the ball inside?

    Halftime

    34-29 OSU

D has been pretty good, though not dominating. We're missing a lot of shots, and we're not killing it on the boards like we did vs Nova.

Horns started a foul fest with about 3 min left in the half.
And boosted that with a whole lot of dribbling on their possessions and then heaving desperate poor look threes.
In other words, typical Shaka ball, which is simply not good enough to win a lot of B12 games.
Will they get hot and sink the threes? Will they figure out how to bust the Cowboy zone? Will they not give the Cowboys the double bonus with 5+ minutes left in the second half?
Horns will need to accomplish 2 of the above 3 to comeback from 5 down and win.

No matter how good anyone may think we are. We still have Shaka to snap us back to reality.

Tough defense + streaky shooting. It is who we are.

    YES!!!

    Brown with the rejection!

Brown just stuffed OSU's Cade Cunningham--former national high school player of the year, and #1 pick in ESPN's 2021 mock NBA draft.

    Now:

    UT 55
    OSU 42

Brown now with 18 points. May have slightly tweaked his ankle or something, but he's still looking strong. He's my favorite player, and we've got more than a few good ones. The presence of a shot blocker like Brown makes the opposition alter it's entire offense.

Now it's Hamm with the rejection!

We are definitely more athletic than we have been in some time.

Next possession we foul a three point shooter. Are our players dumb? Uncoached? WTF is their problem?
Just a couple of minutes of sound BB and they win.

The Cowboys get butter fingers at just the right time.

And they sure do like to debate the refs.

    Brown with another rejection!

Our guys play out of control when the game just needs a couple of possessions without a turnover or a foul. Is this asking too much?

    Brown

    Double-Double
    25 points (I think)
    3 blocked shots

    Game changer

Now if he could just make more free throws...

Belay that... he hit those 2. Now for these 2 ... 1 out of 2. That will win it.

Turned into a bit too close for comfort. But it's a conference win.

    Defense, depth, hustle, grit.

It should make us top 4 in the conference, possibly Sweet 16. With more development, possibly better. Sky is the limit when we're hot.

With this D, I don't see anyone blowing us out. We'll be in every game. We all know the weaknesses in our O and our streaky shooting, but I'm more excited about this team than any team we've had since the TJ Ford days.

I sense more than a few lurkers are sitting out there just waiting for a collapse and to come back and say: "I told you so Chop!" Bring it when it happens, 'cause it won't happen this year. We'll drop some games here and there, but this is a good team.

OSU hit 47.5% of their FG attempts, not a lot of defense there.

We won the game at the FT line, we were 38.1% from the field.

We beat them on the boards, including 15 offensive boards for us versus 10 offensive boards for them. Our D also generated 6 steals versus 3 steals for OSU's D. Most impressively, our D generated 6 blocked shots! :yikes:

6 blocked shots + 6 steals = 12 offensive possessions that OSU doesn't even get a chance for a bucket.

Yeah, we could shoot better and set up better shots on O. I don't think anybody could dispute that.

I am with you. This is a good and exciting team. I can't understand our "fans" who constantly bad mouth this group and seem to be begging for a collapse. If Brown continues to develop, he might become a lottery pick. Even if he does not, he is great to watch. Hook'em.

It's just hard to believe based upon Shaka's tenure to date. When we see the same problems on offense then it's puzzling that the coach can't figure it out.

We did make free throws in the last 3 minutes that were crucial.
And our threes began to fall consistently enough to break their zone.
Getting them into man defense opened things up down low.
Congrats to Andrew Jones for stepping up big time.

Some (not all) people get it into their heads that the coach sucks, and is the root of all inadequacies displayed by the team. Then they don't want to admit they might have been wrong, so they continue to look for any evidence their thesis is correct, despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

My thesis? All coaches, all teams, all individual players have the ability to learn and grow. Allow me the caveat that the older a coach gets, the less likely he or she is to change what they have found that works for them. Older coaches do tend to become married to a given system. Still, the truth for all is that past performance may, or may not, be indicative of future results.

Hmmmm. I've seem to have read that a place or two before. So what's your prospectus have in the way of forward-looking statements regarding the rest of the year for this team?

One thing's for sure: Shaka has stockpiled some serious talent and depth.
