I have a feeling that you have a better sense of the answer than I do. But probably both.

"Mack and Greg send in GG a freshman against Bama."
That's the key there, #2 QB was okay to just run zone read, should have never thrown a true freshmen into that situation. Saban has always struggled vs mobile QBs. I remember GG looking for his helmet right there. Wow, this guy is so nervous he can't find his helmet. Then to add insult to injury, Mack tried to install a power running offense the next season without any of the personnel to run it effectively. Smh.

That entire year I was telling my buddy that we needed to have the # 2 ready. Mack didn’t. It was a fatal flaw.

I don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but apparently Thompson is doing very well in the classroom. I mean he is supposed to graduate in May after 3 years.
So if he is a guy that applies himself in the classroom, he's probably a guy that will apply himself in the film room. So he is a cerebral type kid with tons of athletic ability, speed and a good arm. And if that wasn't enough he also seems to be very mature. That's probably a testament to his parents. You can't ask for better than that.
But not only that, we have a solid backup in Card who is learning the ropes. Future is looking pretty good in my estimation. I will admit they are not brimming with experience but at least they got talent. It's something to look forward to.

Orangebloods says that “multiple sources” tell them that Sam has made a decision and he’ll be moving on to the NFL. They expect an announcement soon.

if true, good luck Sammy. You’re One of my favorite Longhorns ever.

Agree; you cannot teach natural talent or speed.

He looked like what Kelly Mond over in collie land is supposed to play but always disappoints.

Major difference - one is an honor student graduating in three years, the other (according to my Aggie friends) can’t pass remedial classes.

Looks like with Sarkisian on his way things may change drastically. Sam may see how staying another year may improve his draft chances. And maybe CT and his dad may feel TH got shafted and want to move on. My rant is moot, now that we have a new coach.

We've already seen what Sam is for 4 years now. It's time to move on. If Sam is still the starter next year he'd better be at least 50% better than he is right now or else that job should be Thompson's

    Oh...true Poms...
Word is he is a film rat and coaches say one of the most well-versed in all things football and understanding the game they have seen...a real student of the game

Assuming Thompson can do for 14 games what he did for 20 minutes.
