Why Sarkisian? Because he was Saban's OC?!

Sark is telling Linert for the last play, "Whatever you do, get rid of the ball quickly so we can have two shots in case you miss on the first pass." That one didn't work out so well.

Yes, this is a very important point to make. His deamons could be (and are likely) behind him. The point to make is this...why risk it? If we say Urban Meyer is a risk due to his past issues, cool. Urban has major head coaching skins on the wall. Sark has less than folks like Campbell, Malzahn, Kelly, Herman, etc.

Herman had a better proven success on his resume than Sark coming in as a head coach. UT shouldn't be reaching and taking on unnecessary risk with this move.

There are better head coaches with less risk (personal behavior) out there. We aren't hiring an OC.

Didn’t he blow it that Reggie Bush wasn’t In the Fourth and 2?

Had we stopped the power off left tackle all night?

What happened was that our DC called the wrong defense, one to stop Bush. Brian saw the RB, thought that we had not really stopped him off left tackle, broke from his assignment, and dove inside to disrupt the play, grab White long enough for reinforcements to arrive. Great play by a great player. :hookem2:

Tom Herman became radioactive after the Red River Shootout/Showdown and the unforgettable photo of Sam singing the Eyes of Texas, virtually alone. The loss to Iowa State, recruiting woes, toxic locker room, and booster meltdown made the end for Herman inevitable - he had to go. Period.

So, this was never a "keep Herman or hire Sarkisian?" question for CDC - it is meaningless to compare Herman's resume to Sarkisian's because that just wasn't the equation CDC had to solve. He had to find a new Head Coach.

The question was: who is out there that the powers that be would want? Urban apparently had his sights on the NFL, hence the brief courtship. On a half-dozen other threads, names like Matt Campbell, Mario Cristobal, James Franklin, Kyle Shanahan, and a bunch of other non-starters or pipe dreams surfaced. Interestingly, I don't recall ever reading any poster suggest Sarkisian. If it was made, I missed it.

Contrary to conventional wisdom on HornFans, CDC found a candidate with prior head coaching experience, NFL chops, and a college football championship/Heisman winner-worthy strategist in Sarkisian. I didn't see it coming.

Yes, its a clear gamble, but I like it. I'm buying. :hookem:

Because we hired CDC to make these determinations, and CDC and others above him all signed off on Sark despite the risks. During vetting I suspect they were told by plenty of people whose opinions they respect that Sark's risk factors are no longer of concern.

We wanted Herman gone, he's gone. We wanted a new coach, we got one. When you compare his name to those on the list after Meyer, he certainly stands up and arguably could be at the top. I'm excited to see what he does and will support him because he deserves and needs our support as the new Head Football Coach at The University of Texas, and honestly because I'm tired of feeling ****** about my school and my team and choose to do so.

Hello page, I'm turning you now. Hook'Em!

Well said Vino Bevo. While I was not in the "pitchfork at Herman's house” camp, I'm 100% with the sentiment of this post. Now go open a Châteauneuf-du-Pape and celebrate. :ut:

We didn’t stop much of anything all night. Had Reggie Bush just been a decoy would of created enough hesitation. When Lindale White lined up in a 1 back set, it was pretty easy to figure out where it was going.

The QB Coach doesn't typically call the plays or directly influence RB personnel choices. I believe that would have been Lane Kiffin. Nice try though.

Sometimes hiring a guy who got fired at a previous place works out OK even if he had a losing record at that previous place. At least that is what the Patriots think.

Ok, I'll take the bait. As a baseline Sark has a .566 winning percentage as a head coach. Here's are 3 lists for consideration below. All I'd argue have less skeletons (except last list) and better track record of success (many with less talent)...

    Realistic:
    Malzahn .670
    Patterson .706
    Campbell .616
    Kelly .721
    Shaw .714
    Richt .728
    Kiffin .629
    Chryst .664
    Gundy .672
    Whittingham .670
    Fitzgerald .565
    Fickell .661
    Leach .594

    Dreaming:
    Saban .870
    Meyer .854
    Petersen .795
    Stoops .798
    Riley .849
    Smart .788
    Jimbo .773

Also with skeletons but better proven HC success:
    Freeze .663
    Briles .604

I don’t know if sark was the right hire but I do know Herman had to go. Herman fractured the culture. If sark can repair that he has my support. Cdc has some work to do in this area also. The alcoholism thing doesn’t bother me, in fact, I think it could be a positive. If he truly has it under control, and I have no reason to believe he doesn’t, he will be a much stronger person for it and a strong coach. I also think because of the way he went out of the head coaching arena that he will be very motivated to succeed. He obviously has a great offensive mind and can develop quarterbacks. Elite programs have elite quarterbacks and I think he will be successful in that area. Hopefully, he will be successful in managing the rest of the program and rally the proud fan base. The first clue will be what kind of staff he puts together. Good luck sark.

I love Campbell and he was high on my list. I'm fine w Sark.
Btw, I for one cannot even begin to grasp why anyone has a problem with a few "meltdowns" from Campbell...I dont see it, get it, or agree with it.
Having said this...I'm all in for Sark and he will have my full support.

How do we know what calls were made from this list or any short list? But I get what you are saying for sure. You gotta have interest both ways.
