All I heard last year is lack of development. Whoever’s job it is to develop Celeste isn’t doing their job.

Texas A&M and WV are the only high caliber teams we have played this season and we lost both. Today was just a good ole butt whooping!

In fairness to Vic she is coming off of a foot injury, but I do agree that she hasn't played well at all this year.

WVU exposed every possible weakness we have! I’m sure the coaching staff will tell the team to learn from this BBB (bad butt beating) and remember the pain of this loss. I look forward to WVU’s visit to Austin!!

It’s been a while but I’ve been following the site. As those who are familiar with me know that I know her from her Aau days and I am still friendly with her Belle coaches who talk with her parents often. I am not in a position to give any personal information but I can tell you she’s been hurt even before the first game of the season and has been playing through it. She is still not at 100%. I only am putting this here because I hate to read all the negative comments when no one knows what this kid is dealing with.

I took advanced statistics in college and so this fact is the "voodoo", "rabbit's foot" kind of logic: Every game Texas has won this season they won the opening tip. And today when I saw WVU with the opening possession, I thought, "hmmmmm...."

I love watching her watching her play. She’s absolutely my favorite. My comment is more of a knock on the staff. Seems like someone needs to be building her up more. That’s what you do when someone’s confidence is down.

The main reason we see glimpses of last year's team? We're depending mainly on players from last year's team. You're not going to change a culture in 10 games, and you're not going make pure shooters out of people who just aren't. This staff did not recruit and assemble this team. Granted, they didn't look prepared tonight -- mentally more than anything. Honestly do you think this staff doesn't emphasize fundamentals like boxing out and making free throws?

I blame Coach Vic for leaving Charli in when she had two fouls but that's it. We got shots, we didn't hit them. We attacked the defense and got fouled, then missed free throws. Our defense was forcing missed shots, but then didn't clean up the glass and WVU pretty much buried us in the first half on second chance points 19-3 while we were 5-13 from the line to boot. Once they got some cushion they relaxed and everything got clicking for them. Game over. Bad night all around for us.

Anybody who doesn't see the marked improvement (aka development) in some players and other parts of our game just doesn't want to. Still angry about KA not being retained. She did a decent job while she was there, and made us relevant again briefly. But the current staff was brought in because decent was good enough. They're going to need more than a few games into one PANDEMIC RIDDEN season to put the product on the floor that will eventually be.

I have enjoyed watching the improvements and development that this staff HAS been able to facilitate in such a short, crazy time. If we don't look any better than this in years three and four, after there's been time to bring in their own recruits and teach them, then I'll start bitching... and you know I will. But for now I'm riding with them just like I did KA in her first five years.

WV pulled out a can of whup@ss on us tonight. The key to beating us:
    1. Shut down Charlie
    2. Zone defense

We still need scorers. We need a better offense. I still don't understand this guards running around the perimeter offense. Involve all 5 players in the offense. Smh. If Charlie is constantly moving they can't keep 3 players hanging off of her. She just sits down low. 5 seconds pass she moves to the other side and sits down low. Aaarrgghh. I'm so sick of screaming at the TV MOVE CHARLIE!

Maybe move Charlie to 3 pt line and run back doors for the guards. Try something different besides her sitting down low. Everyone knows how to defend this.

But I'm not tripping. These are not Vics players. Like poster above I'm just riding the wave.

My 2-cents is that Aston was from the Jodi school of out rebounding your opponent at all costs. Vic's philosophy is creating more turnovers for your opponent than yourself.

    Tonight's game:
    Rebounds: WVU 40, Texas 26
    Turnovers: WVU 19, Texas 20

So, a lose, lose for the team tonight. It happens.

Sorry, but Vic Schaefer doesn’t need anyone’s approval!!! He made TWO national championship games in three years with zero McDonalds All Americans. This is his first year and while I agree this was bad, I have all the faith in him to right the ship and put us in a position to make the Final Four in time. Give the man a chance.....

What's up with L. Ebo? Seems like we could have used some maturity in the post.

When is Warren expected back? She really had become that hustle-play maker for Texas this year, and I think we missed her badly today. She's a little like Brock Cunningham on the men's side, but with more offense.

I agree with the Celeste post. She almost disappears against the better teams. She was a nonfactor vs. Texas A&M earlier in the season.

I'd hope Charli would start to focus on basketball and less on talk shows and TM her name, etc.

You quoted me, so I'm thinking you think I'm dumping on Vic? Nah. I posted the Danny Davis tweet to show Karen had off non-Baylor nights as well.

Ebo is back with the team but Vic decided she was not going to travel. The reasoning is unknown but most likely covid related. Vic will have a full team this entire week for the very first time. Let's just see how we come out against TCU on Thursday with a whole team. I guarantee we see the Texas team we saw the first game if not better.

Funny you mention this, because the ref did a horrible toss at the opening tip. Being one who jumped center, I always notice the toss up and it aggravates the hell out of me when the ref screws that up.

Another side note that I don't see many talking about is Chevalier. She definitely has been proving herself and deserves more playing time. Yes she makes mistakes like everyone else but there is no denying her energy and hustle. I would love to see Chevalier, Taylor, Allen-Taylor, Warren and Collier in the game at the same time. I believe that is our best defensive lineup.

I think all the chatter about her at the beginning of the season went to her head. She obviously needs more development. Any type of good defense against her gets her off her game. Time for her to learn counter moves and how to MOVE WITHOUT THE BASKETBALL.

At the end of the ugly day it’s only one game. Last year Texas dropped a very ugly game at home to Arizona and later bounced back to beat #1 Stanford. With that being said I’ll sleep this one off and hope they bounce back.

You hit it right on the nail and That's really the next step in her game. I believe if she decides to stay one more year, coach Harris will do wonders with Collier and they will have a very productive summer.

There are still those close to the previous staff lurking, waiting for every opportunity to have something negative to say about the new staff. They're very obvious even when they think they're not being. KA is history. We thank her for her service. They should get over it.
    Moving right along...

I only got to see (had to see) the first half, but it was truly bad. When a team is killing you inside, like we were being killed down low, that's when you go to a ZONE. I know I'm whistling in the dark, since Vic has said he will never use a zone. Our man defense might as well have not been there down low. My screen was too dark to see well, but I couldn't tell that Charli was doing anything good before she went out. I agree, she needs to be in constant movement, making herself open. Or try her on the perimeter and post up a guard. Vary it up. I know this team has been touted as a dribble and drive to the basket team, but I don't think that's the answer to every situation. I agree with others, you can learn from a bad loss

A different perspective on the game. This Texas team walked into a team that was riding a wave of emotions from the university on down all rallying behind Gondrezick because of the passing the day before of her father former nba player Grant. Not easy to match those emotions especially when West Virginia is at full strength while you’re out two major contributors in Warren as well as Ebo who I like to believe would’ve made positive impacts in this game. In addition Texas asked Johnson to play minutes she’s never done before against post players that will be playing in the Wnba one day In Martinez. Also with those players not available forced the coach to start a freshman in Gatson who’s still learning which was evident in more than a few times not being where she was supposed to while running a set. I think once this team is fully healthy you won’t see any more games like the one we all witnessed yesterday.

One thing never changes on this forum -- so many more posters come to post during/after a loss instead of during/after a win.

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been mentioned. My thoughts on the game, and on some of the replies I've read on here:

    - Shocked Vic didn't mange Charli's foul situation better; it changed the entire complexion of the game. Karen did this with Ariel and Joyner and it drove me crazy. Coaches have to know their players' tendencies as it pertains to fouling.

    - Charli is a very emotional player, and seems to get frustrated easily when things aren't going well for her. She will have to learn to drastically improve in that area. It's all about maturity.

    - You don't get to praise the new coaching staff for the positive things that happen on the court their first season, and then quickly turn around and blame the prior coaching staff for the negative things that happen this first season (EDIT: Unless you're okay being a hypocrite). It doesn't work that way. If you state the prior coaching staff is "history", then leave them out of the discussions completely, not just when it fits your agenda. I doubt Vic is blaming the prior coaching staff for the complete lack of effort HIS team showed last night; that included players signed by Karen, and the players brought to Texas by Vic.

    - LACK OF EFFORT. Didn't think we'd see that by a Schaeffer-coached team; but, it sure looked like that last night. If you're realistic, you know our team has weak areas and flaws. And, you have to know that we weren't going undefeated this season; losses are going to occur. Regardless, when the team doesn't play hard, it's disappointing to everyone.

Warren could have played, missed practice, so she was not allowed to play...
(I remember when GG did the same thing with Chaz Fussell and another top player)
Celeste, as has been noted, has been INJURED ALL SEASON!!
Ebo will be back for next game....thank goodness!!
