“Alabama’s OL coach, Kyle Flood is leaving Tuscaloosa to join Steve Sarkisian at the University of Texas. He will be in Austin tomorrow. He was the architect of some of the best offensive lines in CFB since he arrived at The Capstone.” From Texas Wire

Just wondering who’s gonna be coaching the Brockemeyer Twins now?
Also wondering if they’re wondering and wondering if they pulled the trigger too quick?

were they early signers or is the door still "open"?

They signed their LOI's. They now would have to go to the portal and transfer, like what the receiver who signed with Michigan is trying to do.

    And like Bru did
    Twice

Texas signed some now on the roster OU DL, who did it as well.
The Sooner wouldn’t take a class he needed this invalidity his admittance- or some slight of hand stunt. I could be wrong on the details.

I am beginning to think the Brock's situation is going to become an object lesson to future elite recruits as to the questionable wisdom of signing during the early period rather than waiting for the late signing day.

OL players are usually red shirts as they bulk up, although the Brocks May be the exception. Would it be worth their while to move if they feel Flood is their guy?

Well, since everyone always refers to them as kids, how much wisdom could they have? And, the grown ups who make the decisions seem to be lacking there as well.

If a kid (or brothers) don't want to be here, I'm not going to sweat it. I wouldn't have probably related to "the previous coach- that wouldn't call the kickers by name" either.
They don't want to be here, fine. Let's roll with those that do!

They obviously did not have a burning desire to be a Horn, but did they have same for Bama and Saban? Perhaps the chance at a NC was the reason. Who knows?

They need to stick with their decision and not vacillate. There are plenty of good lineman around the country and Texas will be fine with the new coaches. I am for getting players who want to be Horns. We have had enough players with the WIFM attitude and it has not boded well for the team. I say good luck young men and we respect your choice. If you are a victim of early signing then let lessons be learned. Coaching changes happen at year end. Those who love a school first and then the coach are the ones who should sign early.

The Brockermeyer saga is not totally unlike the situation with Schnellenberger at OU. Schnellenberger went into the home of OU alums, going back three generations of letteremen. The family had their name on buildings in Norman. Schnellenberger showed his ***, was thrown out of the house, followed by the family storming the president's office and demanding their name be taken off everything at OU.

Schnellenberger got fired, Donnie Duncan got fired (but Deloss got him a job in Las Colinas after one of his patented tear-jerker sagas he was famous for).

Herman went into the home of Texas Royalty, and it didn't mean **** to him, just like The Eyes of Texas didn't mean **** to him. He pissed them off, and from what I know it goes far deeper than Dad wanting to coach on the college level. If the dumbass had known Texas football, all he had to say was, the school had some issues during the David years, and had laid down the law. He would, however, do what he could to help Blake find something. Herman was "too good" for that common sense approach, and cost us a longterm family relationship.

I don't know. You have to be respectful of people as a leader, that's to be sure. But it's pretty poor if a guy tries to gravy train off his son's athletic ability, and get a job he can't get based just on his own abilities. Not sure how I'd handle that - certainly would not hire him myself, or do much more than put him in touch with people I knew were looking for someone.

And you've have to avoid it looking like you were vouching for the guy, just to get the recruits to to sign.

Oh well, next year you can just get a booster to hire them all to endorse used cars or floor wax or whatever the booster's company sells. It's gonna be like the old SWC wild days of money flying around left and right.

    Precisely.
If you're like Sam Ellinger, you sign with Texas (or whoever) the first day you possibly can.
If you're a talented kid looking for a coach who gives you the best shot at the NFL, maybe you're better off waiting for NSD2.

Do we know for a fact that this happened? Is it merely speculation? I have not talked to anyone that knows the answer. If, indeed, Dad wants a job in college or NFL coaching, regardless of who he is, why wouldn't Herman make a few calls?

Vouch for him? No, you say, I have an acquaintance, who had a great playing career, but now wants to break into coaching, do you have any interest? Doesn't take much time, but a single phone call took Jimmy Johnson from backwoods Mississippi to D-1 assistant. A single phone call took Mike Gundy from grad assistant to playcaller. A single phone call made Fred Akers the youngest HC in Texas HS football at 24. A single phone call to Bud Wilkinson brought Coach Royal to Austin.

It's human kindness, but when it's "Royalty", YOU ******* DO IT!

Don't ask me how many calls I've made for friends and/or their kids to get them interviews at Tech, OU, oSu, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Alabama, Auburn. Did I get anything out of it? Just the pleasure of knowing I had helped a friend, who never let me down.

1000% agree. Not to mention Brockermeyer was a heck of a player here and in the pros. I am sure a few schools would appreciate that experience. Would have been no sweat off Herman to show a little decency if this is true.

    reds,

I have no personal knowledge, but my money is on more of a Schnellenberger type situation.

Regarding the Brockermeyers, the Texas program was a cluster puck under Herman. As my buddy told me in November, Ewers’ dad told him at a SLC game that ‘there were other issues in Austin.’

    DUH!

Unless someone can provide specifics to the contrary, I will continue to believe that the Brockermeyers didn’t come to Texas for one reason: Tom Herman. I don’t blame them.

^^^Well, if you’re correct then that “reason” for not coming to Texas is gone. Therefore, Ewers can now come to Texas; however the Brocks are already signed, sealed and delivered to Bammy.

As I have stated before, I would not be surprised to see the Brocks end up at Texas. And I would assume that one angle — if they chose to take it — would be to request a release from their LOI. Not saying that Saban would grant the request, but he might.

    Duke,

If Saban takes Bill O'Brine as OC, Sark can get the Brocks from O'Brine in a trade for three cases of Elasticon and a six pack of Shiner

I suspect Sark will not actively do anything on the Brockermeyer twins out of respect for Saban.

I’ve bragged on this website multiple times that two years ago I was at the DKR and I sat with his parents, they were crazy Longhorn fans in a good way like over the top like I am ....so I know the kid must be a true longboard fan.

I knew Blake in the 90’s and my Dad was friends with Blake’s Dad at UT in the early 60’s. I think there is at least a 65% chance the twins come home to Texas. Herman pissed them off somehow so they went to Bama. The Brockermeyers love Texas. I bet they did not like Tom Herman.

Agree. But what if they approach him? Does he say “not interested?” And if they requested to be released from their LOI, is that Sark’s fault. And if Sark asks Saban for his advice?

Of course, this is all optimistic speculation. But again, if a kid grows up idolizing his father, and his father was a star OL at Texas, no way there aren’t second thoughts now...
