I said this, not as eloquently, when J Moore screwed up.
There is no argument to counter this.

No- I do not recall a Tony Edwards

I did just Google it and a 1984 he was a linebacker that apparently scuffled with police at a bar, if I had a dime for that occurrence in ‘84, Fred Acres kept him on the team, but other than that there’s not a lot of other detail

As I remember it he resisted arrest by 6 or so officers in a bar the middle of the week prior to the Baylor game, and Akers played him in the game. I think he was from St Louis, home of the Spinks brothers, and across the river from the home of Sonny Liston. Some bad dudes come from that area.

A lot of Texas fans were highly upset over Akers letting him play, to include your’s truly. I think that is a testimonial of the quality of Texas fans.

Sabre can proof and add to this.

Lots of selective memory. Tony was on Sixth street with some other players. He left and went out to wait for them at their car. He was sitting on the hood of the car when this midget Mexcican APD employee with a major Napolean complex walked up and started asking him questions. Edwards was minding his on business. The midget cuffed him behind his back, then proceed to beat the **** out of him with his nightstick. Edwards was charged with resisting arrest .

He started the Baylor game in Waco, where our outstanding fans proceeded to taunt and boo him. Didn't take me long to stand up and yell "Shut the f**k Up" at the top of my voice.

You see, the midget hated Texas, he hated Texas football players, and he hated black Texas football players. It was the 5'6" piece of ****'s way of getting back at God for not making him bigger. The cop eventually admitted to the truth (some two years later), was fired, and I believe his right to be a "peace officer" revoked in Texas. Edwards was exonerated, but the 84 season was shot to hell, and Edwards draft status ruined.

Tony Edwards did nothing wrong and the cop admitted he complied and did not resist, but little good that did 12-18 months later.

Selective memory suggests ignoring the facts. I don’t do that. Ignorance of the facts? I will confess, guilty. Also, having lived in Dallas during this time and being quite old as of now, I only remember what I read at the time, Therefore I defer to the great one who knows it all. If what you say is all true, I accept same. But selective memory of that witch I never knew ain’t happening.

Edwards was at fault. Got it. You can just say it.

Sorry, I was not accusing you personally of "selective memory", but rather our fans. I was in the locker room at Floyd Casey after the game (you remember that locker room that the opposing team had to climb a fire escape three stories to get into.

I got much of the information from the Spaceman once the truth came out. I believed the players, but the fanbase, hellbent on getting rid of Fred were not so kind.

The cops confession came so much later that it received little coverage other than in Austin.

For some reason, I can’t hear the video (and yes, I checked the sound settings on my phone). Can someone give me a 2-3 statement synopsis?

I had a very good friend who grew up hard, without a father and with little supervision, and was arrested on a felony. Our coach gave him a second chance, after a long deliberation/suspension. I believe to this day that this saved my friend's life.

Too much, how you gonna punish a guy when they mess up? Everybody from fans to media are killing him. Where do you want him....out in the street? You want to condemn a 19 year old to prison? Or you want them to be successful graduate, daughter go to Princeton (like a player he suspended when others wanted him kicked off team) with a great family and a VP now? Not enough, let’s give this guy another chance?

In the 80's APD was a mess. I talked to Edwards a few times. He was a good dude in my book.
