Kansas State Game

The 5-8 Kansas State Wildcats roll into Austin to take on the Mighty Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. tonight. Catch the game on the LHN. The Horns look to bounce back after a disappointing 2 point loss to #15 Texas Tech. The good news: OSU beat KSU by 16 points. KSU just isn't on par with most of the competition we've faced thus far.

The Mildcats start 3 true Freshman (Davion Bradford-F, Nijel Pack-G, and Selton Miguel-G). And (other than Bradford perhaps) these aren't the sort of true Freshman like Shaka regularly brings to the 40. KSU runs a four guard lineup, so look for some spread-out, outside shooting, running-and-gunning on the other side--albeit without our talent level. The four top scorers for the Cats are all guards, and it's fairly balanced between them:

    Mike McGuirl - G 12.5 pts/game
    Nijel Pack - G 10.7 pts/game
    DaJuan Gordon - G 10.5 pts/game
    Selton Miguel - G 8.3 pts/game
    Koasi Ezeagu - F 7.5 pts/game -- 6'10"
    Davion Bradford - F 6.8 pts/game -- 7' tall, 265 pounds

As I see it, the keys to this game will be tight defense on their shooting guards, avoiding turnovers by us, and killing them on the boards (a strong likelihood on this last point). When 7 foot tall true Freshman Bradford gets more years and experience, he could turn into a force inside. Not tonight though. He's a good Freshman big man, and was a consensus Top 150 prospect. Whenever you have a 7 foot tall player with pretty good athleticism, that's a guy to watch. At 265 pounds, we should run him, wear him out, and get him into foul trouble. Sims, Kai, and Brown can show him how it's done in the Big 12. This should be as close to a cake walk as we'll see in the Big 12 this year, but turnovers, cold shooting, and weird bounces of the ball do happen, on occasion.

Greg Brown, Kai Jones and Brock Cunningham are supposedly out. DM's previous Twitter post is a link to the paid OB site, so not sure the reason, assuming its Covid related.

Nice start. 8-2. Good early play by Sims. Hepa gets the start in the absence of some of our bigs.

Crazy start KSU makes 4 buckets in a row with guys in their face, then they get an easy wide open 10 footer and miss it. Great hustle from Texas. If they keep this pace up, it will be a win.

Most conferences have at least 3-4 teams like Kansas State. Not this conference.

Nice to see the great development/improvement of the players on this team. Also great to see Simms starting to get more aggressive on offensive end.

    Halftime

Complete domination. Shaka had our under-staffed team well prepared and ready to play. He’s got our second teamers and below ready at a moments notice to jump in and contribute. That takes some serious discipline. Like a well oiled machine. That’s a sign of a well coached team. Great job Coach and Team.

Everyone who steps on the floor for Texas looks good and is contributing. A sure sign of a really good coach and team. Hook'em! Can't wait for the tourney.

Great post, I guess I wrote more or less the same thing at the same time. I can't wait for the rest of our fan base to realize the greatness they are missing.

Yes. It’s good to find other clear-thinking Longhorn basketball fans who aren’t blinded by venomous hatred of Shaka in their souls.

Hamm showed a nice inside shooting touch over the defender.

Hepa continues to play a great game.

Ramey and Sims are on top of their games tonight.

    The butt whoopin continues.

I like the comparisons of this team to the BMW team. For me, they are easily the most entertaining team since BMW (apologies to TJ Ford as he was my favorite Longhorn to watch).

    Yes!

Shaka was listed on air as among the top 5 candidates for national coach of the year—and justifiably so.
