Well, we are at the 42-21 score I predicted for the final, but obviously that won’t be the final

WL looks bigger and more athletic, SLC can't hang with that

Someone who knows something about QB throwing technique...Ewers appears to throw from the side. It goes a long way but looks different than what you usually see. I mean someone who knows something might explain it to me who knows nothing....

I don’t know whether you heard this earlier, but someone had suggested that for the Dodges, it was a win/win situation, and Todd Dodge said no it wasn’t.

Behind by 25 now—4 scores. Had they just taken the 1 point before, SLC would theoretically be in a 3 scores game. The math doesn’t work.

I’m glad Texas has the best high school football in the land, cause them trophies are flea market cheap.

Wow, what a good game! Looked like two well coached small college teams playing.

What a great showcase that demonstrates the elite talent and skill of Texas HS football!!

UIL championship "trophies" are pretty lame.

Based on last night's game, I would prefer Klubnik to Ewers. I think he is an all around better athlete. Passing game is pretty comparable with either qb, but Klubnik adds a run dimension that Ewers does not seem to have. Could be just that the Westlake D is overall better than SLC>

That Westlake held Northshore mostly in check tells me that yes, I'll give credit to the D against Ewers. As good as Westlakes offense was this year, without that defense they lose to Northshore by 2 scores.

I always was of the belief that had Todd done well at Mean Green that he would someday become the head coach on the 40 acres. Others on here know better than me, curious if anyone else feels the same.

I posted last week that I picked Westlake because they had the better QB. That is no slight on Ewers, who is very talented, but more that he has had fewer games under duress. Todd knew that and planned to bring it by the dumptruck load. Ewers is the real deal, but needs some time to mature. Of the two, I would take Klubnik now, Ewers if I had the luxury of grooming him a couple of years.

As for Todd coaching college, Todd is a great football mind, but he does not possess the personality to recruit and be a HC. I have known him since he was in HS, and think the world of him, he can pick defenses apart like no OC we've had in decades. Surround him with assistants that love recruiting, and you'll be playing in January. We now have a HC with a great offensive mind, and whom will be calling the plays.

Man, Todd put it on his young-un, 52-34. Did Westlake ever punt? Seemed like they scored every time they had the ball.

This was in my prediction that was on the other thread:

Yeah, it’s hard to correlate results when different teams all blow out everyone but play different schedules. Until giving up 21 to North Shore, WL had averaged only giving up about 4 points a game this year, while putting up 55+ a game. So, it’s the defense that is the distinguishing point. Their worst game was two weeks ago against Cibolo Steele, having 3 turnovers and a missed short FG in the first half. Nevertheless, they won 34-0. That’s what made me think they would likely win it all—a shut out against a good team even when the offense uncharacteristically kept giving Steele the ball over and over.

SLC has given up 20 or more points 9 times this year—the 21 North Shore got was the first time anyone scored that many on WL, and NS had averaged 50+ per game, even in the playoffs.
So, they all have offense, but I think defense is the difference.

I loved Klubnik. The kid has top end speed like few QB's I've seen. And he can sling it. Would be great to see Kubnik come to the 40 acres.

It's kind of obnoxious, being so specifically personal, but I think trying to trash talk the #1 player in the country is slightly more okay than if they had picked on some random other HS student, who probably would not be playing on Saturdays into January bowl games and maybe on Sundays.

Also, they could meet again next year, even if not in the playoffs, they could reschedule the regular season game between them that got cancelled this year. So, be careful whom you challenge!

Yeah that's pretty petty. Ewers hasn't won anything so kinda silly to deify him like that.

Pretty impressive that Southlake made it to this game. They only returned 3 of 22 starters this year (and 0 of 11 on defense).

Anytime you make it into the quarterfinals, it is impressive. It takes an extraordinary group of young men to make it to the finals at any level. Southlake had a great season, a season that a thousand other schools wish they had accomplished.

As much as the two teams had outstanding season, this game had all the media distractions with Ewers, the tradition of Southlake QBs, but it was really the Todd & Riley Show. Todd won convincingly, but unless he retires, this was likely "Round One".

Congratulations to your Dragons on a great season.
