I wouldn't be surprised if we only have 3 players drafted this year.

    I'll take the over
We are going to have two relatively high picks, Cosmi (last half of R1, I hope) and Ossai (R 1 -2)
    Beyond that --
    Caden Sterns = rounds 2-4
    Sam = rounds 3-7?
    Ta'quon Graham = rounds 6-7
Tarik Black = 6th round to undrafted
Chris Brown = 7th round to undrafted
Brennan Eagles = Have to see how he tests. He was an absolute camp test monster coming out of high school. If he can repeat those performances and place himself in the same percentiles again, it will get some team's attention. So let's see how he does

Agree with everything except Sam. No one will argue his mental toughness, but 2020 treated him not so good as he was hurt early and not given time to heal. On top of that, what position will a team draft him to play? QB? TE/H? LB? He will go Round 4 to undrafted. At this point UFA would be preferable since those salaries are not slotted, and he can pick his team.

This one really interests me. To me he digressed considerably after his first six games. Whether or not he’s a team player is another issue. I have him further down the board, if at all.

Size is an issue at safety for him as well. There are some smaller safeties but it's not the norm and not what teams want in the early rounds.

Could be, but the NFL is also looking for this sort of LB now

Clemson starting LB in the portal. Not sure what happened here but Texas should send in the new squad of recruiters ASAP.

I would be mildly surprised if he was drafted Round 6. His play became very tentative and he was always a step behind the receiver his last 2 years, it seems. Practice squad, initially.

Some of that was covid related, right?...not sure how much.

Sterns has more physical or "X's and O's" upside than Brandon Jones ever had, and Jones was taken in the 3rd round. There are two prevalent schools of thought about safeties in the NFL now. About half the teams take the "rover" type of guy who never drops into Cover-3 and has college LB attributes (like 6'2" 225), and the other half goes for the cover guy who sits back and plays last-line-of-defense. That's what the Fins were hoping for with Jones, and he had his moments this year. Taking Sterns for that role is easy pickings, because he's faster than Jones, hits harder than Jones, and arguably follows the coverage better than Jones ever did. Plus, he's got at least an inch and 10 pounds of muscle on Jones.

The problem for Sterns is mental and injury-related. Teams will see him limping off the field in at least 4 games that he played from 2018-2020, combine that with his offseason rhetoric about leaving, and he goes from a sure-fire NFL safety to a "maybe practice squad?" kind of guy quickly. I still think he is the 3rd Longhorn drafted (after Cosmi and Ossai) but that might be the 6th round by then. Eagles could turn some heads with measurables.

    Agree.

Sterns is a locker room nightmare & a world class head case! I think if truth be known, he was a serious obstacle to Texas this past year and as noted, he was always hurt. He is not Earl Thomas or Kenny Vacarro who were lights out. On the Sam thing, he is not NFL QB material. He was a tremendous longhorn but that doesnt translate to NFL.

Previously I've felt Sam would go 5th round or lower. Now I'm not sure. Still think he'd be worth a FA contract.

Wish Keaontay success at USC. Pretty sure he could see the writing on the wall after how Robinson played the last few games. I really think Roschon Johnson is a comparable RB but has yet to show that. If Robinson continues like he left off, perhaps a statue is in the near future!!

I know this sounds harsh, but I would never take a flyer on Ingram after the dropped sure TD against LSU, the fumble against TCU, and the immediate fumble on his first carry against OU. All competitors have their oopsie moments, but those are team oopsies that cost us, and potentially a conference championship this season.

I agree with you. I figured he would go to something like UNT or Sam Houston. I wish him well.

The guy who surprises me is Tarik Black. Not sure how he times in the 40, but he seemed slow, did not appear to be very dynamic after the catch, and never did a lot in college at either Texas or Michigan. I guess there must be something that i missed. I doubt he gets drafted. I really don't see Graham getting drafted either. With no combine, I think Eagles is in big trouble. Eagles will be interesting as he has all the measurables.

I don’t think Sterns compares favorably with Jones, regardless of the measurables. Jones was usually where he needed to be and often made drive killing plays. He was a hard hitter who seemed to clean up the mess in front of him, ongoing.

In Sterns I saw a player that appeared to miss reads frequently, overrun plays, miss tackles and seemingly avoid contact. Regardless of the off-field issues (which were huge), to these eyes he seemed to digress into mediocrity over the past two years.

YES! Jones and Thomas are ball-hawks who are fearless. Sterns tip-toes over to the receiver and pushes him out of bounds or, if in the center of the field, makes every effort to avoid contact and most of the time whiffs in the open field. He better man up for the NFL because some guy from a directional school with passion and grit will outplay Sterns every day n twice on Sundays.

Save for a terrible no call on a blatant grab of the West VA WR in the end zone at the end of that game, Sterns would have cost Texas that game. Can’t see a safety with poor tackling and cover skills going early.

With what, 112 Division 1 teams, he still has 108 left to sample before he makes his final pick!
