You mean like when it was discovered that Trudeau and Northam had both been in blackface? How did that work out? Last I heard, they are still in office.

Only matters if an (R) is behind the name unless the (D) has somehow pissed off the powers that be beyond a point of no return.

Yes, I think that's always been the first step for dictators seizing power. They tear down the old so they can build their ideal society. Lenin killed the Czar, confiscated the land for redistribution, and outlawed religion. Pol Pot killed all the professionals and sent the survivors to re-education camps. Mao revolutionized China in '49 and then revolutionized it again in '69 with the Cultural Revolution.

Stuart Smalley was removed from office because the Dems were trying to remove Trump for far less. Whenever his name comes up now, libs almost universally say he should not have lost his job. Poor Al.

White fragility. This is an attempt to turn the snowflake label around.

They are so stupid. F'em. Who cares what they think. Do what you do. Go to work and be competent. If you are rewarded then raise a glass to their fragility and offense over your just rewards.

Asians make more money than whites. Biden should say they are no longer a protected minority.

This is one of these issues that makes me not want to live in a wealthy, Western country. Poor countries don't have time to haggle over stupid **** like this. How powerful is the trans movement in Burundi? My guess is that it's pretty small and pretty weak.

I understand and respect why we needed a civil rights movement and why women wanted to have equal rights at least as the default rule. I even understand why people thought bans on same-sex marriage were unfair. Even if I didn't accept the argument, it was defensible on a rational level. This is a movement that will never make even arguable sense to me, and I'll never believe that it's being brought in good faith. You have to ignore far too many very obvious things and disrespect the rights and extremely justifiable concerns of far too many people to force this issue. It's blatant political bad faith intended to antagonize and nothing else.

Agree Deez. But looking back now, should conservatives/traditionalists fought harder against gay marriage? Giving freedom to adults to follow their conscience is a good principle, but seeing as it was really just a ploy in the culture war makes me think we simply gave up ground in a war.

Completely agree. It’s one of the things that make me think the Muslim claim of Western depravity is not entirely false.

Was it the the act of legalizing same sex marriages that was so distasteful?
Or the knowledge of the depth of the slippery slope?
The problems I see now are not the resulting of letting 2 consenting humans marry giving them the same legal rights as any other 2 consenting humans.
Transgender is Imo way down the slope But we will go farther I am sure.
Gay people are asking not for people to legally declare they are of another sex. That they are not both male or female or asking for us to pay for drugs and operations.
OR asking to shower in a girls locker room if they are a gay male is attracted to other males etc?
I am surprised that so many gay ( homoexuals, what it the right term) would support the trans etc movement

Gay rights movement initially said they only wanted civil rights for gay couples. At some point, this was transposed to “marriage”. The state endorses marriage for procreation and for stable homes for kids. Homosexual marriage does not meet those aims relative to heterosexual marriages according to “science”. The state should only provide commitment certificates in the future instead of marriage licenses.

Note Asians no longer people of color, presumably due to higher pay and education levels.

In a White House press briefing Monday, COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force Chair Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith also emphasized the need for better race and ethnicity data on vaccinations. After summarizing higher mortality and hospitalization rates among people of color, such as Black, Latino and American Indian people, she said she was “worried” about being “behind” on race and ethnicity data collection amid vaccine rollout.

That argument was raised in court, and it was rejected largely because we recognize marriages for families that can't bear children.

Society has evolved from the time when folks in their teens and twenties marry and rear children. As I pointed out above, the state-endorsed marriage certificate needs to be replaced with a commitment certificate because a homosexual union is not a marriage.

It sorta depends on what you mean by fight. When Ayatollah Kennedy (to borrow the title from @Htown77 ) decided he liked gay marriage, the fight was lost in terms of policy. There was nothing that could be done. But what if Kennedy had seen things differently? We'd be largely losing the battles in the state capitols and courts. The reality is that we didn't lose in court as much as we lost in the court of public opinion.

To really win the battle, the fight would have to have been fought very differently and earlier. As I've stated earlier, we relied much too heavily on the "yuck factor." Instead of affirmatively making the case for traditional marriage and fighting the rhetorical battle, we complacently got by on the public's general aversion to homosexuality and its view that it's "gross." However, while that was enough for awhile, the culture and schools were teaching kids that it wasn't gross. Furthermore, we lazily let the Left define and frame the issue in ways that made bans on gay marriage very hard to defend and justify. Both things went unchecked and unchallenged for about 20 years, and that was enough and is how the issue was lost.
