"Free" is the problem Joe. To academia "free" equals zero confidence. Offer them $15,000 per month and see what happens.

CDC needs to get on the ball here. This is not helpful at the moment

Inside Texas has learned that Drew Hughes is no longer expected to become the director of player personnel for the Longhorns under coach Steve Sarkisian.

If he could not clear Texas' background check I guess he is stuck in the $EC.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

Hopefully the new Chris Gilbert will be as good for Texas as the 60s vintage Chris Gilbert.

Sure do hope that comes to pass. It's disgusting to see the top talent from the DFW area going to Zero U. The staff simply has to plug this hole in the recruiting levee!

    HHD,

That "hole" has been more the size of the Grand Canyon.

Eman Naghavi, who I think was the OC and OL coach at ULM
He was previously an Analyst/Assistant under Mack and then Strong.
Nice job the leave to become an analyst for us

He is better in that regard than re-hiring Samples would have been

Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington is expected to take a job at USC. Carrington would like to make a transition to on the field coaching in the future, and USC has a plan in place for him to work as a quality control analyst on the offensive side of the ball, learning under Trojans running backs coach Mike Jinks

For those that don't know: " Gilbert ran for 3,231 yards in 29 games for the University of Texas in 1966–68. He was the first player in NCAA history to record three 1,000-yard rushing seasons—rushing for 1,080 as a sophomore, 1,019 as a junior, 1,132 as a senior, averaging 5.4 yards per rushing attempt.[1] "

SabreHorn, you're correct (unfortunately). It will take time to reverse the flow, but it sounds to me that this hire is a step in the right direction. Tom Herman didn't take that step; it appears that Sark recognizes the need and has made the first step.

Ahhhh Chris Gilbert, if I remember correctly I was on a car ride from El Paso to Caballo Lake when Texas was playing and he ran for TD first two times he touched the ball - now I could be wrong about that and do not remember whom they were playing (I was probably imbibing at the time) but I seem to remember telling someone about it later.

One of my all time Longhorn favorites. Certainly top five. Never forget his 96 yard TD run against TCU. If not for OJ Simpson he might have won a Heisman.

And also for those that are too young to know, freshman played on the freshman team and not the full squad. Thus, no opportunity to record four years of stats.

Sounds like the 1968 TCU game at Amon Carter. I thought Chris was going to hit 400 yards that game.

If you saw Chris today, he looks like he could still suit up.

    Total class act.

Several years ago, I was trying to help a family in north Houston, when the worthless father was popped for 25 pounds of pot. He had a young daughter (about 8), who had never had a stable home life, and seeing her father (worthless or not) carried away in shackles was not something I thought she needed to endure. I called Chris, and he said let's grab lunch. After explaining the situation, I asked if he could help me with a scholarship to Camp Olympia. He said he would pay half if I'd pay the other half.

Today, that young lady is the mother of three girls, lives in the Woodlands, and reminds me that was the happiest memory she has of being a child.

I've known Natalie since we were both in 5th grade. I played football with her brother Tom who was one of the best kickers / Soccer players to ever play at Madison.

I'd be more inclined to say Tom Herman thought he could win DFW recruiting wars without anybody's help. It wasn't that Herman didn't try, he just failed pretty miserably.
