They supposedly have a workaround in which they sever the actual Capitol, White House, and a few other critical government buildings from the new state and leave them in a federal district. However, I don't think that's enough to make it constitutional.

DC statehood advocates are doing this entirely for partisan reasons, so they don't actually care to solve the taxation without representation problem. While I'll readily admit has an unfairness to it, it's an easy problem to solve without ruining the constitutional order for the federal district. First, only let federal employees live in the district. Second, don't make them pay federal taxes and reduce their pay proportionately. Problem solved.

I think everyone knows why they want this

Do they think they can amend the Constitution by XO?

I think they assume the federal courts will defer to them on creating new states.

I used to think that was not possible, that federal judges feared no one
    Not so sure anymore

I don't think they'll allow it, but I didn't Neil Gorsuch would read trannyism into the Civil Rights Act either.

Marjorie Greene was kicked off the committee due to holding strange conspiracy theories. That's fine if it would go both ways. When do we punish democrats like Pelsoi for pushing conspiracy theories that Putin was the reason Trump won in 2016?

Hillary was the reason Trump won in'16, not Putin

and in 2022 the Gop will pick up at least one senate seat and a handful of house seats and we will have a gridlocked government that cannot do squat yet again. I welcome that

At some point in time the Republican House leadership is going to need to develop a backbone and admit "party unity" does not also require hanging out the "all crazies welcome" sign.

Margorie Taylor Greene was stripped of her committee assignments. 11 Republicans voted with the D's showing they have more courage than McCarthy.

Beg to disagree for once. She got elected by her constituents and they have a right to have a representative. The house in effect is giving itself the power to unelect who the people chose. Slippery slope.
So when will they get rid of AOC, the hysteric in the house?

The sooner, the better - and take Omar, Presseley, and Talib out of office at the same time.

Dems once again overplayed their hand and set a very dangerous precedent. I dont agree with the craziness pushed by Greene but its not right for the majority party to modify committee participation by the minority party. If Republicans take back the House then they should retaliate against any Democrat that pushed the now debunked Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy. Not to mention the rest of the nuts in the Dem party like Waters, Omar, Talib, and Jackson Lee that routinely say crazy things.

A lot of things can be true at the same time. First, the Jewish space laser thing makes me wish the conspiracy was true and that I was Jewish.

Second, Marjorie Taylor Greene is a lunatic and has no right to serve on any House committee, even if she is entitled to a seat in the House.

Third, the Democrats are taking a chance by interfering in cross party committee assignments. Furthermore, they are setting a precedent they'll likely regret.

Fourth, the issue should never have reached the whole house, because the Republican leadership should have shitcanned her.

Fifth, the fact that the GOP didn't take her off committees on their own is worrisome. This shouldn't be a hard decision. Steve King said something crazy and lost his assignments, but Greene is actually a bigger nut.

True. To be fair, SheJack, AOC, Maxine, and many other dim-ocrats have even less gray matter than Marjie. The dems should take away their committee assignments first.

One can hope the GOP will reciprocate. I'm not optimistic.

Bullsheet. If you removed people for saying crazy sheet, there wouldn't be anyone left except Cruz.

This! Yes, both parties should have this consistency (for @theiioftx). If the parties themselves don't have the courage to police themselves then that is a serious problem. Rashida Tlaib saying "******* impeach Trump" does not warrant committee removal. It's crass and I disagree with the format and timing of the statement but that's politics.

The below is a threat against her peers, plain and simple. There MUST be some checks on decorum and acceptable behavior. She's advocated Pelosi getting a "bullet in the head" and hanging Obama and Pelosi. This is beyond acceptable rhetoric. If the voters in her district didn't have the sense to exclude her then losing influence (without committees) is entirely appropriate just as happened with Steve King's district.

She is on the looney side but nothing in that statement concerns me, but the photo obviously does. She is anti-socialism which I and millions of Americans agree with. It’s some of the other things she has said with that photo, much like squad members, that her party should manage.

Agree. It's hard for Pelosi to claim moral superiority when she's posing for publicity photos with wingnuts like AOC and Ilhan Omar. However, a party of principle doesn't emulate its opposition's worst impulses. It does what's right, as it did with King.

What worries me is that this shouldn't be a tough call. It should be an easy one. Why is McCarthy afraid to piss off the QAnon and Jewish space laser people? Are they part of the GOP coalition now?

  21. Mr. Deez

    Mr. Deez Beer Prophet

That may be true, but are we to live by their standards, or should we have our own?

And again, why is this hard? It shouldn't be controversial to dish out the John Birch treatment on the Jewish space laser chick.

  22. 4th_floor

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

No. We all need to live by the same law and standard. Since they are the majority party, they need to enforce the standard on their side first. Since I no longer have the rights of free speech, free religion, or free assembly, I am not willing to hold my side to a higher standard.

  23. Mr. Deez

    Mr. Deez Beer Prophet

Why do they have to adhere to the standard for you to? What do you lose by adhering to it? What do you gain by not doing so?

What do you gain by surrendering immediately? Do French chicks love you better if you carry a little white flag around?

What do you gain? In McCarthy's situation his "big tent" extends from principled traditional conservatives like Liz Cheney to QAnon true believers. I suspect that latter group is larger than any of us can fathom (bordering on the size of Trump's base) which is why McCarthy refuses to do anything more than bend the knee to them.

  26. Mr. Deez

    Mr. Deez Beer Prophet

What exactly is being surrendered, and to whom are you surrendering? We should shitcan Greene because she's a nut, says idiotic things, and hurts the party, not because Nancy Pelosi says she should go. We should be shitcanning her even if Pelosi said she should stay.

Let's be blunt. It's in the D's interest for McCarthy his R cohort to keep and defend Taylor Greene. As the opposition party they WANT the R brand to get tied to their crazier QAnon elements no different than the R's want AOC to be the poster child of the D party, which they did fairly successfully last November.

Taylor Greene's desire for celebrity will circumvent any controls McCarthy thinks are in place.

Machiavellianism. UNLESS the QAnon rep can be replaced by a Republican, then you keep her. You can't continue to unilaterally disarm (i.e. Republicans who voted for Biden because Trump made them nauseous) your political beliefs and abdicate it to the other side when they clearly have no intention of reining in their extremists. Remember: Defund the Police, Open Borders, Reparations, the Green Deal, Cancel Culture, White Privilege etc. These are very real and are being pushed by powerful people who have no intention of backing down one bit.

OR... you get rid of the QAnon rep, give the seat to the Dems and hope voting Americans respect you for it and remember next time they vote.

No. The Dems don't see it that way. After you shitcan a reliably conservative vote like Marjie, the Dems move on to cancel the next representative, senator, mayor, governor, etc. I'd rather have Marjie than the 11 cowards who surrendered and voted to have her removed from the committees. She is a reliable right vote, just like SheJack is a reliable left vote. And it's not your call. You don't get to impose your so called principles on her district. The voters get to decide, unless the mail-ins and drive-throughs work their magic.
