I hope he leaves as I think he relates incredibly well with the political side of the population and recruits this type of player incredibly well. There are some great football players/athletes in that spectrum of the population, Jim Brown comes to mind. However, I think most of them are distractions from football. I want a recruiter who relates to the guys who eat/breath/live football or the Tom Brady types. In other words, I want a guy who will recruit players who will gather his teammates in the offseason for practice/weight lifting and let other people on campus gather for political issues. Would I turn down Jim Brown, hell no. But do I think there are far more football players who could care less about political issues and want no part of a team that focuses on these issues. I think we lost a lot of players recently who do not want to mix football and politics. So BC, do not let the door hit you in the *** on the way out as far as I am concerned.

I thought you were one of the EOT haters?

Far from it. I am extremely frustrated by the EOT issue as I want a president who makes decisions on facts and then explains his decisions. I do not want someone who hides behinds committees. I am extremely frustrated that Sark had to come out and say he backs the song. I think someone other than the new football coach should be explaining that the EOT is our song. Quite frankly I think it is the football coaches job to coach football and the athletic directors job and/or the presidents job to handle all non-football issues. So at the end of the day, I want our president to say yes or no on the song and explain why. I feel he will say yes as I perceive the message from the EOT to be extremely positive and I can not understand how this song became an issue even if some classless racists have sung it in the past (I doubt there is a song on earth that racists have not sung). However, I will trust the president no matter how he decides as I am a Longhorn and not some idealist. My problem, he is not deciding and letting this issue divide our Longhorn nation (mainly between young and old I think) which is unacceptable.

I think you badly misread the situation. But I dont really want them moving another football thread to the political forum.

    beijing,

Did you miss Chris explaining to the team face to face?

Did you miss Jay explaining to the team face to face?

Did you miss the BOR sending a letter read to in team meeting?

Of course it helps if you have a head coach that doesn't try to undercut everything the administration is doing. I got the message loud and clear back in August. Herman was just too damn dumb to understand what he was being told.

Do they sing "Amazing Grace" in the Lutheran Church?

Seems like, while the people involved area player , coaches, and staff, that the topic about the Eyes of Texas song and other comments such as "woke" do NOT belong in On The Field or Recruiting threads.

I'd be just fine NOT having to read what are obviously political/social/racial opinions in these forums.

Those things were done as invisibly as possible. I completely agree with Beijing horn—it wasn’t until some new guy who’s never sung and barely heard the eyes comes to town and answers a press question do we really know what the actual policy is going to be. That should have been jammed down the opposition’s throat so deep before Sark got here that when the question got asked, everyone rolled their eyes and said, “not this again.” Instead, we had to await Sark’s answer, and then finally know what is going to happen.

I’m not sure that I would agree about the ambiguity. A HC was basically disowned by an entire fan base because of the way he mishandled the issue. And as SH noted, the policy — “support of the EOT” — was clearly communicated. Simply, our woke and tone deaf former HC either didn’t understand or, more likely, he decided that he was smarter than those to whom he reported.

Sark didn’t establish the policy (nor was he asked to do so IMO) but he did brilliantly field the grenade that was lobbed at him in the intro presser. And by doing so, I believe that he sealed the deal, so to speak, putting the issue to bed.

Beijing, I get your point, and it’s a valid one, but I’m not sure that I agree with the selection of Jim Brown as an example:

Maybe one day we will "hear the rest of the story." He seems too smart to leave Texas for USC considering Clay Helton seems to have one year remaining before he gets the boot.

I'll go ahead and state it for everyone...I find your use of the word "woke" in the context of our players and staff offensive.

I am thinking he was pushed out also, just find it curious that he was retained and pushed out as everyone else was fired.

Not sure if he was pushed out or not. Read Sark wanted to keep him, but not sure how hard he really tried. Sark basically had everyone he needed, so my gut says he could take or leave BC.

I have to assume that there is an out clause in the contract that does not severely constrain him if a particular job or jobs are offered.
