I admit I was sort of dreading the thought of him trying to play again
Instead, he is going to get a great degree and get on with having a good life

Chip Brown thinks the transfer from LSU will be the answer to our edge rush issues. But since it's Chip Brown, it probably wont happen now

" ..... Texas landed LSU graduate transfer linebacker Ray Thornton, who played in 32 games with four starts and was part of a national championship season two years ago.

Thornton has speed — speed that helped him post two sacks and a forced fumble last season at LSU in limited action. He's immediately a leading contender to replace Joseph Ossai as a pass-rushing outside linebacker. Don't blame Thornton for getting stuck behind a dude like K'Lavon Chaisson (in 2019) and then moving to inside linebacker in Bo Pelini's failed scheme in 2020. Just watch Thornton on film, note the speed (Pete Kwiatkowski did), and then consider that Thornton brings veteran leadership to UT's locker room and knows what it takes to win a national title.

(And don't confuse me twice referring to Thornton being a part of a natty at LSU for me thinking he could help make that happen in 2021. Frankly, Texas fans should be happy if Thornton can help make sure Texas gets wins its first two games - against Billy Napier's Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and at Arkansas.) I think Thornton is a great pickup from an instant impact standpoint, and, thus, he gets the largest amount of my excitement among the 2021 Longhorns' newcomers just signed."

This Thornton film is kind of old but will give you an idea of his speed off the edge

I hope Texas gets to have spring practice and Thompson is the player that we saw in the Colorado game. With spring practices and and a little luck, the team could go undefeated next year. OU is probably the only team on the schedule who can finish inside the top 10 in my opinion. I really think the offense is going to crush people with a great running back and a QB who can complete a pass beyond 20 yards, the offense will be impossible to stop unless teams have above average defensive linemen across the board. But will the defense be able to stop anyone?

We already talked about iowa st returning 20/22 starters.
Ou returns 19/22 plus every member of special teams
You think 2020 was an important year to establish yourself in the Big12 pecking order?
Most pundits think, even with Sark, it will take a couple of years.
We better catch up at light speed or our place in the Big12 won't look any better at the end of '21.
Most prognasticators have us #3 or 4 with one having us at 5....though I see us competing at the top (of the Big12) and hovering around 2 in Sarks first year....but even that won't be easy.
    TCU will be tougher, too.
Being in Big12 Champ ...or especially winning it...would put Sark ahead of schedule in most people's eyes (outside of HF).

Remember when some were questioning his talent based on the level of competition he played against? Seems like a lifetime ago lol

The penalty assessed after his EZ dive was one of the most ridiculous ever imo.

    That was me.
I was not really questioning his talent I was questioning his five star-ness due to the level of competition.
I am happy to say he proved me wrong.
Sweet moves and a quick burst.

    Schedule
Not a great set of home games, outside OSU -- UL, Rice, TTU, OSU, Kansas, KSU

If we do 10-2 that would be doing well with this schedule. Iowa State and Oklahoma have too many returning. TCU will be tough also. Plus TCU and Iowa State are away games so 9-3 would not be a surprise.

That home slate is ****. UL might be our 2nd toughest game at DKR. And, for those of us who can't travel to road games this year, we're spending every day from 10/17 onward waiting for the CCG or bowl game announcement.

True, bad home slate. But '22 on the other hand, Alabama, Iowa State, and TCU and that's just what I know about.

Yes, that's because 2020 was supposed to be Texas' year. It was one of those situations where you say even "insert name" can't screw this up, but mensa with stupid decision making and stupid turnovers managed to lose 3 winnable games.

Now we're back to rebuilding with a new staff. Expectations need to be tempered. Even the 1st game is 50-50, and a game against the pigs is always going to be close regardless of the difference in talent.

Offense I am not concerned. I think RB will be greatly improved, I think WR will be improved, TE who knows, QB not sure, line Cosmi will be missed but others getting better with time on campus and coaching so I hope for improvement. On defense, Ossai is the only guy who will be tough to replace in my opinion, but I think improved coaching will make the unit better. Hard to believe but Texas averaged just 1.2 points per game less than OU, but it still felt like the offense was not very good. Of course I think if we are all honest, 2020 would have been a great year minus 2-3 really really really bad coaching decisions.

It's probably our toughest game. This is toughest schedule we've had in years with the non-conf and away schedule in Big 12.
