Chip Brown thinks the transfer from LSU will be the answer to our edge rush issues. But since it's Chip Brown, it probably wont happen now
" ..... Texas landed LSU graduate transfer linebacker Ray Thornton, who played in 32 games with four starts and was part of a national championship season two years ago.
Thornton has speed — speed that helped him post two sacks and a forced fumble last season at LSU in limited action. He's immediately a leading contender to replace Joseph Ossai as a pass-rushing outside linebacker. Don't blame Thornton for getting stuck behind a dude like K'Lavon Chaisson (in 2019) and then moving to inside linebacker in Bo Pelini's failed scheme in 2020. Just watch Thornton on film, note the speed (Pete Kwiatkowski did), and then consider that Thornton brings veteran leadership to UT's locker room and knows what it takes to win a national title.
(And don't confuse me twice referring to Thornton being a part of a natty at LSU for me thinking he could help make that happen in 2021. Frankly, Texas fans should be happy if Thornton can help make sure Texas gets wins its first two games - against Billy Napier's Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and at Arkansas.) I think Thornton is a great pickup from an instant impact standpoint, and, thus, he gets the largest amount of my excitement among the 2021 Longhorns' newcomers just signed."
This Thornton film is kind of old but will give you an idea of his speed off the edge
