You're hitting on something that strikes a real nerve with me these days. Everyone thinks they are a journalist, but about 90% of what I see written would be considered on about a 7th grade level where I come from.
And most I would rate lower.....gibberish level.
Words matter...and they (used to) have meaning.
(As for this example, I don't know Pete, and I'll give him a pass, as Twitter is a different kind of animal)

Interesting timing for us

The NCAA instituted the IAWP rule — individual associated with a prospect — to prevent schools from hiring high school coaches, trainers or family members of prominent recruits in order to game the recruiting process. The rule, adopted in 2017, prevented schools from hiring persons dubbed IAWPs for a two-year period both before and after the prospect’s recruitment, unless that individual joined the full-time coaching staff. (The rule passed with AFCA support.)

Recognizing the rule could have unintended consequences — some of which were pointed out at the time — the NCAA is moving to change it.​

Texas has shattered all records and athletic department norms with new football staff contracts that will pay out millions in multi-year guaranteed deals.

The UT System Board of Regents are set to approve new football coach Steve Sarkisian’s six-year guaranteed contract worth approximately $34.2 million, a deal longer and more lucrative than what previous coaches Charlie Strong and Tom Herman received initially.

The Longhorns also will have two coordinators and a special teams coordinator making at least $1 million annually, totals once considered unbelievable and unreasonable figures for assistants but now are commonplace.

Sarkisian’s annual salary starts at $5.2 million for the 2021 season and escalates by $200,000 each year until topping out at $6.2 million in 2026, according to the information posted late Friday in the UT regents agenda.

UT regents must approve all multi-year contracts or contracts that go over $1 million in value. The regents are scheduled to meet Wednesday and Thursday.

All money used within UT athletics is generated most through TV revenue, ticket sales and private donations. No public money is used to fund any aspect of the Longhorns' athletic department.​

I'm glad they emphasize this, because there will always be those that question coach's salaries as compared to professor's and school staff's. Just wondering, where does the money that's generated through merchandising sales go?

 

Back in the Mack Brown era, there was an article in Texas Monthly about UT athletics. It stated that not only did all athletic department income come from the revenue it generated, but the athletic department would transfer $1 million to the UT General Fund each year. I don't know if this practice is still in place.

 

Well, then it looks like I'll be making a sizable contribution to the general fund in a couple of weeks. Taking a couple of the grandkids to Austin over spring break. Neither have ever been to the co-op but they've already got a list ready...

Well that's good to see that you got a funny reaction from someone. I'd question everything in life now.

 

I am somewhat disappointed in CDC's inability to get Drew Hughes through the labyrinth. Hughes was the top shelf recruit at this position who had big plans to mimic/expand the Alabama player personnel model at Texas. I hate it when a good plan never gets off the ground.
I am not sure this guy is an improvement over Chang and Co. But, as always, we hope for the best.
