Seems the Horns will finally get an opportunity to play again against a very good WVU team tomorrow. Will this team ever get an opportunity to play some consecutive games so they can get their mojo back?
Is it a go? I think Bergstrom has been departing flights, and WV has a functional electric grid. Keeping Culver in check is a key. Running him down the court with fast transitions and getting him in foul trouble would be good. Culver is big, strong, and tough, but not as athletic or quick as our big guys. And there’s only one of him, while we have Sims, Kai, and Brown.
Yes, we have him outnumbered. I would add Hamm to the mix; and in a pinch Heppa just to keep Bodies coming at Culver. Our inactivity lately may be our biggest concern today. Being rusty—not shooting well & getting into foul trouble go hand in hand.
Yeah, Hamm would be just the guy to get in there, rough Culver up some with physical play, and draw some fouls (without caring much whether Hamm racks up his own fouls).
So far Horns are NOT turning it over, playing good D and dominating the boards. IF they keep this up they will win. A tall order, but certainly doable.
Amazing how this team can look so good, playing under control and suddenly start shooting itself in the foot in rapid fire fashion.
Woah! Well, if you're going to foul the opponent at the bucket Hamm, slam him to the ground... Nobody ever accused Hamm of being a finesse player. Hamm - 4 points, some decent D on Culver, a board or two, and a really hard foul.
I like the guy, but I don't expect much offensive firepower from him. He's helped keep Culver from running wild on us with Sims on the bench.
Our shooting is very good today. WV can't keep up. Also, our D against Culver has been quite good. That dude can take over a game if you don't defend him well. Sims was just about shutting him down--nothing like our first game against WV. Kai guarded Culver well enough. Same with Hamm.
This is a massively important game. We can push up the conference standings to just below Baylor, or hang back in the pack of 4-5 teams that will likely make the tourney, but with a 3-4+ seed (WV, OU, KU, Tech, OSU). I think we're a cut above that pack, but we have to prove it every game.
Great halftime adjustments and 2nd half preparation by Shaka and team! Great in-game coaching. 18 minutes left and we're up by 19 points!
