Assuming this 2021 season is his interview for CDC to keep his job. The approaches at the plate this weekend were horrific. Poor coaching decisions over the last few years doesn't seem like he will be kept. Perrin made some really bad decisions...At least he didn't renew him early...
PIerce has earned an extension already regardless of what happens next week, but a few wins in Omaha and perhaps a title may add some zeroes to that extension.
In my humble opinion he is a good coach.. Two trips to Omaha in 5 seasons (really 4) is impressive in todays game ... Lots of parity in d1 baseball compared to 20 or 25 yrs ago..Now he needs to win in Omaha this time but seems to have the program headed in the right direction.
Let's be honest about the 2020 season. While it is impossible to predict how things would have turned out, it is safe to suggest we would have been very strong contenders to reach Omaha that year too.
He has done enough to get a new contract with an increase in pay. His first team did not have the talent to get to Omaha, but they did. The lack of talent was evident the next season. They would have made it to the Super Regionals at least last season. He can recruit pitching which is the name of the game in college ball.
Agreed. For any college program in any sport, success recruiting is at least half the battle. Support staff and development (which are largely the same) are next in importance. Game time decisions and adjustments are the fine tuning that takes top 10 finishes to championships. Pierce looks like he is recruiting well and has a good support staff. The next few weeks will tell us something about that last part. For now, I doff my cap to Coach Pierce
Coach Pierce winning the conference 2 times in 4 seasons ( not counting 2020) has accomplished something that Only Garrido, Mackovic and Barnes have been able to do in the last25 yrs or since the formation of the big 12
It’s like I said somewhere else: If you hit a 3 RBI triple, there will be some folks that will biatch that you didn’t hit a home run.
The issue on the college level is that the exceptional HS pitchers tend to commit and then turn pro after the draft. This leaves the school in a hole without a pitcher. Pierce seems to be able to find, recruit and hold the pitchers he wants.
Some folks after reaching 3rd base on a triple get tagged out in a rundown between home and 3rd base after getting caught off base.
Why? There ain't anybody camped in the Disch's parking lot with an offer, certainly not an offer better than he has. Let him earn it. He's 1-3 in Omaha
If Pierce were to jump ship (not something I would anticipate), we should think long and hard about promoting Sean Allen--pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
SMH. You baseball geniuses wanna run off Coach Pierce? He's gone to Omaha in 2 of his 4 full seasons (no CWS last year) and he is 1-3 thus far. It took Augie 6 seasons to do better than that.
I don't wanna "run him off", but I'm tired of coaches having non championship years and being financially rewarded like they just won their fourth National Championship
Why would we dangle anything? I'd say he's done a pretty fine job getting this program where it needs to be. We make the CWS every other year on average since it started in 1946 which is unbelievable. We win a championship 1 of every 6 times we go to the CWS. Pierce has made the CWS 2 of his 4 eligible years (last year was cancelled) and we aren't done yet this year. Even with college baseball evolving and improving he has been able to keep up with our historical averages. Let's keep him and see what he can do.
I haven't looked at his contract dates, but if '22 is his last year and given his overall results let's get it done and lock him up for a couple more years.
