Wells on the Black Unicorn --

The top-rated junior tailback in Texas says he’s getting bigger. "6-foot, 190 pounds,” said Owens, who was catching a flight from California to Texas after a 7v7 tournament last weekend.

“I’m excited to see what Texas is going to look like next year,” Owens said. “The players they have already and the ones coming in under Sark’s leadership Coach Sark does a great job getting his players and the right position to make plays.”

2023 rb rueben owens has committed to Texas.
He is currently the number 1 or 2 rb in the nation and number 1 player in the state. Depending on what service is rating him.

Is there any film out there on Owens yet? I'm looking forward to seeing what this young man looks like at 6'0 190lbs he isn't going to run people over but I'm excited to see what he can do.

    EDIT

Went out to youtube and watched fi'm on this cat. Dare I say his running style reminds me of a very young Adrian Peterson. From his size to ability to break the long run he looks like an AD clone.

A slightly bigger Eric Metcalf seems like might be a closer comparison to me, or maybe Joe Washington.
    Man, I'm old ...

Talking about Eric Metcalf means you're old. Talking about Terry Metcalf means you're ancient.

What happens when you mix a rueben sandwich with Dijon (Bijan) mustard? I guess they would overlap only if Bijan stays his senior year.

Hope he doesn't, we need guys who leave because they have nothing left to prove and need to be in the NFL.

I don't know, Sheldon. Ricky stayed for his Senior year when he had nothing left to prove and that turned out OK for everybody.

Ricky was a different kind of dude, as we all know. The epitome of “marching to the beat of a different drummer.” He stayed to help the team, help Mack establish his program, and to win the Heisman. He accomplished all of those goals.

Players today could learn so much from Ricky. He wasn’t about the money. In fact, he didn’t care, and it cost him millions over his career.

Special dude that I always respected, even during those days of intense criticism when he left football.

back in 2008 Sports Illustrated did a Heisman salute with a special issue. They had a signing party where Ricky and Earl were supposed to be there to sign copies of SI publication. Earl was there, Ricky wasn't for some reason. Earl looked broken, at the time he looked like a 100 year old man.

He was only in the league from 1978 to 1984 and the damage he did to his body was horrible. I love football because of Earl and I'm passionate about Texas because of Earl, so it made me really sad to see him like this.

I don't want that for Bijan, he needs to make his money when he can and get out before he destroys his body.

Keep in mind though that Earl had a serious issue, spinal stenosis, that wasn’t diagnosed until well after he retired. It almost fully incapacitated him.

I do agree that running backs take a terrible amount of abuse but Earl is a special case, and the spinal stenosis is what has really taken it’s toll on him.

Keep in mind, he isn't the only Ex-NFL guy to have a hard life after football, there are ton's of them especially with the head trama thing as well. I say this for all our kids, if you can go early to the NFL, go, get your money and then get out before you do permanent damage to your body.

Because of the way that Earl ran, and the way he was over used by Bum Phillips, he took a real beating during his career. He gave better than he took, but the sum of all of those hits had to take a major toll on his body, spinal stenosis or not.
