Should we start a thread to predict how far the
'Horns will go in the Big 12 and NCAA Tourney?

Sorry Mc, looks like we will not return to the NIT glory days!

We win the Big 12 tourney.

At a bare minimum, we make the Sweet 16, but I predict we make the Final 4. Possible National Championship.

Biased officiating is the only thing that could hold us back.

Biased officiating will have no bearing on the Horns one way or another.

I predict the horns win one game in the NCAA, and lose the next one.

The Horns will not win the B12 tourney, I'm sad to report. Either Baylor or WVU will win the B12 tourney.

Horns make Big 12 championship game and make the sweet 16. I'm hesitant to predict sweet 16 because Shaka has yet to even win 1 big dance game at Texas, but the team should get there and further. This team is too talented not to go that far.

Horns split with WVU and missed a layup at the end of the loss with time expiring which would have put that game into OT plus Coleman missed a wide open NBA 3 with about 5 seconds remaining for the win. In my opinion very little separates UT, OU, OSU, Kansas, Texas Tech, and WVU both in terms of records and talent. So I will not argue with Baylor, but everyone else is a lucky bounce away from the championship game plus all these teams could beat Baylor on a really good 3 point shooting night. So I will go ahead and say WVU will not make it to the big 12 championship game as I think the odds (1/6) are in my favor.

I want to see our tournament match up prior to making a prediction. As they say, styles make fights... Or in other words, KU is a very good team that Texas pretty much has owned this year. Tech is also a very good team that has beaten Texas twice. My hope is we do not play a team with really physical guards.

If we don't nab a 4-seed, we probably won't get to the Sweet 16. They have a nasty habit of making sure our high-low matchups are the toughest test we could face from any region. If we get stuck with a 5, they'd give us the beastliest 4 we could have imagined for that round.

Well, I posted this before realizing/knowing we had to beat Kansas for the third time this year. We have them seriously outsized and out manned, but what happened in the Tech game last night is exactly what frequently happens when you try to beat a team for the 3rd time in one season.

Good pick! I'm glad to be wrong. If the team continues to play this way, I'll be wrong about a round of 32 exit. I hope you are right again about the final 4.

Based on bracket this is Sweet Sixteen team and has a great draw to be elite 8 and potentially even Final Four as they avoided Gonzaga and Baylor.

Sweet 16 would be an acceptable result. Beating Bama or whoever beats them would be really great.

It's a bit off but if we beat BYU and Bama I think we have a better shot at Michigan if they make it through.

I was wondering the same thing. They are 20-8 while we are 19-7 so practically the same record. We beat them twice and won the conf tourney so theoretically we should be a higher seed. The other issue I see is I heard on the radio that the committee didn't take into account the final 10 games which means they would be judging Kansas on a 12-6 record. How does 12-6 = #3 seed? I think they got the nod based on reputation.

ACU is a really bad match up for Texas. Their guards play suffocating defense and they have a 7 footer to protect the rim. This will be like playing Texas Tech for the fourth time this season as ACU will guard the three point line and the rim, so the team needs to hit mid range jumpers and have a great game from Coleman. Of course they are not as good as Tech, so I expect a win. But make no mistake, this will be a tight game. I am really hoping the next game will be UCLA or BYU which I think will be hard fought wins. If it is MSU, it will be another Tech clone. I am afraid it is asking too much to win three in a row against the style of team that is designed to beat Texas. However, that being said, sweet 16 here we come. If we make it to the sweet 16, the final four will not be so difficult to reach as Alabama will lose so the sweet 16 will not be that great of a challenge (OU beat Alabama, just like football SEC is overated) and Michigan will also lose so great 8 will not be that difficult as well. Team will then respond to severe underdog status and beat the Zags by 10. Unfortunately, I think they will run out of gas and come in 2nd place.

Mich St has a star 3 point ringer or two. They're deadly when they're on. Dangerous team. They've beaten some really good opponents this year.

The can play D and have a big man, and it's good not to be overconfident. If it makes any of us feel any better, ACU has the following losses:

Central Arkansas (2 pts) - on Feb 27
Sam Houston State (7 pts) - on Jan 20

As for serious competition- The Arkansas Razorbacks beat them by 13; Tech beat them by 7.

We should penetrate (something that doesn't happen much on the Abilene Christian campus...:rolleyes1:), break them down and make quick passes to the open man.

Kolton Kohl (C) is the 7 footer (7'0" 240 lbs). He averages 12.3 ppg and 4.8 rpg against awful competition (his Freshman high 19 pts and career high 3 blocked shots were against "Arlington Baptist", to give you some idea of the competition he faced)***. He's a big strong guy--he's 7 foot tall, so we don't take him lightly. Problem is, Sims can get just as high up as Kohl and is much more athletic. Same with Kai and Brown. Sims is the best big man defender in college basketball, so I like that matchup.

As always, our shooting can't be ice cold. Even if only luke warm or room temperature, or even a tad chilly, we still win.

    Kolton Kohl:

***as a funny and ironic historical note, Arlington Baptist's campus is located on the site of one of Benny Binion's old illegal gambling casinos--the "Top O' Hill Terrace"--from back in the day. (and let's just say you never ever wanted to cheat in one of Benny Binion's casinos...)

ACU should not be a problem for the Horns. I can't find a "signature win" on their schedule. Their leading scorer is their big 7' center at 12 points per game. I guess you can say they play really good team ball because the next two average 11 points per game. They love shooting from 3pt land averaging almost 23 attempts per game but they also shoot 35% from there which is pretty dang good. The way they beat us is to lure us into a 3pt shooting contest. If that happens and we are off they could have a good night.
