I have wondered, since the time our new staff was put in place, if Deja may want to try and come to Texas. She grew up a Longhorn fanatic. Who knows?...

If this holds to be true, this transfer portal is about to be :fire::fire: The talent will definitely be there so I think we better strike at this chance since it's going to be a one time limit for now. If it's any time to purge and add about 5-6 players then now is the time to do so. Duke's coach probably got that memo which is why 5 players have already entered the portal. I think we ought to do something very similar to get the ball going immediately, especially with the talent we have coming in!

Vic gave her pretty significant minutes in a sub role last year... even started a few. I figured she'd leave. Notice the thanks to fans and teammates but not the current coaching staff.

It's starting but I'm not sure the staff will pursue. Might want to wait to see who all comes out of Mississippi State

If I had my choice of a realistic option to come to Texas should she decide to transfer out of MSU, it would be 6'5 Jessika Carter without a doubt. We desperately need some front court players with size, skills, and rebounding abilities. Carter shot nearly 60% two seasons ago, and 50% this season. Also averaged nearly 9 rebounds a game two seasons ago.

There’s gonna be plenty of talent to choose from. Hearing Heard at TCU may enter.

She will be a huge get for anyone in need of an experienced scoring PG with one year of eligibility remaining as a grad-transfer.

I think Heard respects the coaching staff at TCU so I don't see her going to a big 12 foe if she does decide to enter the portal but I sure would accept her with open arms her if Texas is an option

And she protects the rim! She's at the top of my list, too.

Texas was also a finalists in her recruiting and the same goes for Rickea Jackson. So at least we don't need to worry about them not liking Austin or the city environment.

Just say NO to Rickea Jackson. Texas looks strong at her position in the next couple of years. Per MSU fans, Jackson already had disciplinary problems under Vic. They just got worse in year two. Also, when you know that you are getting an extra year of eligibility (pandemic season) and 1 penalty free transfer is likely coming under NCAA rule changes, why harm your current team’s performance with your attitude? Do your best and leave at season’s end.

Good info! I'm sure Vic and the staff know more about the situation than we do and would govern accordingly.

Rickea for sure visited Texas officially during her senior season. Someone on the UConn board stated that her 3 finalists were MSU, South Carolina, and Rutgers.

As for Jessika Carter, she was for sure recruited by the prior staff at Texas. Not sure she took an official visit to Texas as she committed to MSU while on her official visit to Starkville, and it might have been her first and only official visit. She might have visited Texas unofficially prior to her senior season, but I just don't remember.

I’m feeling a little dirty. For openly wanting other team’s players. This transfer portal is totally transforming how college sports is handled. Not sure anybody knows what it looks like going forward. The dynamics with MState is kinda unique and next year will be gone as Schaefer gets further away from his old employer/players. I wonder if I could be fined or excommunicated for so openly saying want Carter, Hayes and others......when they haven’t openly stated they want to transfer. Is there a meddling penalty for fans? I think I’ll go wash my mouth out with soap for thinking.

The chatter amongst us fans means nothing. As far as I'm concerned all "required" etiquette has been thrown in the shitter... along with that Top 5 or Top 10 team that the new MSU staff inherited and managed to throw there in one season's time.
    Just sayin'... :idk:

Yes, I want Hayes as well. Her game is very similar to Celeste Taylor especially on the defensive side and she brings such a big rebounding presence at the guard spot. She does the little things that make a team successful

It's turning into AAU ball. If you're not winning or don't like your coach just leave and go somewhere else. There will be very little parody in a few years....there will be dominant teams and horrible teams. Not many middle of the road teams.

I see your point to an extent. However I do feel that players should be allowed to transfer one time unpenalized. Coaches don't have to sit out when they make a move. I also feel that whatever legislation they write into the permanent rule needs to contain language that strongly deters subsequent transfers. I'm clueless about what that might look like, but hopefully they'll figure out something to that effect.

I just don't want it to turn into "daddy ball". I do agree with your points as well. I wouldn't have a problem with transfers for legitimate reasons such as coaching changes, coaches in trouble, etc....

True. It's been Baylor 1st and everybody else for the past 13 years in Big 12 WBB.

I know we have depth at the forward position but she would be a great asset. Would be a great player for our young forwards in Gaston and Moore to learn from

Well, if Rickea Jackson does decide to enter the transfer portal, and there's a mutual interest between her and our coaching staff, I would be thrilled to watch her play in a Texas uniform. I don't think we have anyone on our roster with her size, skill, quickness, and natural athleticism.

Impact of Transfers -- Its not that I have not paid any attention to all the talk about the increasing impact of transfers into and out of levels, even high level programs such as UConn. As a Texas fan, of course I am keenly aware of the way Kim Mulkey at Baylor has selectively used impact transfers to fill holes on her team. Still, I was struck a little while ago by the Maryland vs Nebraska box score from today's Big 10 tourney game. 3 of the 5 starters for #7 Maryland were transfers: C Bibby from Mississippi St; M Collins from Tennessee; and K Benzan, grad transfer from Harvard. On the year, those three players are the #6, #4, and #3 scorers for Maryland this season.
