$1.9T ...just saying that's too big. scale it back. stimulate the economy by giving to those who need it. those who don't are in the economy.

restaurants have taken a hit but home renovations have skyrocketed. people who have had stable income are spending money, just differently. contractors, landscapers, etc...the govt will get plenty more in taxes from these guys.

$2000 total was the wrong move. might be good for him for reelection. but it was the wrong move.

Why would I criticize tax cuts? It helped to spur a very slow growing economy.

Increased spending is a huge problem. Who will be the first to put their foot down and slow the foolishness? We already know it isn't Joe Biden

Unless school age children can teach themselves you're leaving out a large impact. As of the 2017-2018 school year, that's 3.5M FT/PT Primary and Secondary teachers. You may have no empathy for that group but some of us do, especially those of us married to a member of that group. Even more importantly, they have a union(s) that represent their collective interests. I can't think of anything more important than "life". Incidentally, I've listened to my wife's local union meetings. These are bottom up votes to strike/go back to work. They may be negotiated by local district teachers typically with an NEA lawyer but ultimately the votes are very local. They aren't 100%. My wife's last vote was 70-30 for an async learning day while negotiating with the district admin.

As a fiscal conservative, we are in agreement. Should have been smaller and more targeted. I was merely explaining the rationale as I understand it and pointed also to a similar Trump stimulus in 2017 in the form of a tax cut that went primarily to the people that least needed a tax cut and equally impacted the national debt.

Except the Trump tax cut didn't add to the national debt because revenues didn't drop.

more aggressive progressive taxation... i'm open to that. also, with our corporate tax structures, i'm ok taxing business income heavier.

but we've got to stop spending so much. maybe the wealthy wouldn't be AS against it if it looked as the the govt was actually TRYING not to spend our taxes.

So you WANT to spur the economy by increasing the debt if an R is in power but not a D? That's sounds partisan.

    Fed Tax Revenues

    FY 2021 $3.86 (estimated)
    FY 2020 $3.71 trillion (estimated)
    FY 2019 $3.46 trillion (actual)
    FY 2018 $3.33 trillion
    FY 2017 $3.32 trillion
    FY 2016 $3.27 trillion

Maybe we should cut taxes even more. Seems to work very well.

Spending needs to be controlled across the board. Entitlements, Defense...everything. I do think our progressive tax system has gone askew increasing the income disparity by monumental proportions. Those upper tax brackets need to be raised from their current historical low range. I say that as someone who is fortunate to be impacted.

There is no debt accountability anymore. Both major parties and their supporters only care about it when the "other" party is in charge. They are both hypocrites. We need to return to a balanced budget agreement to hold the parties in check. Deficit spending should be restrained to crises. We have been in one the past year and we endured the last one in 2007/08.

    Yep.
Not saying some politicos won’t find a way to continue the scare but I do not expect deadly explosions from variant outbreaks. Not trying to be a soothsayer just how I feel about the mess we have in a large sense self perpetrated and perpetuated.

I often debate my sister about this. She longs for a return to Pre-Covid and believes that will occur when everyone is vaccinated. That's not going to occur. We're chasing a virus that will continue to evolve and there is another different virus right behind it. Asia adopted mask usage at the first sign of sickness a decade or two before us. That's where we are now. This virus has forever changed the world. No longer will we shake hands. Remote working will become the norm. Virtual events, food delivery and other technologies we adopted to deal with the virus aren't going away.

Is that really what you took away from his comment? He literally followed tax cuts being good to spur the economy with the real problem being spending.

You mean like the influenza of course, right? Yes, there will be another virus not sure how soon you may mean by “ right behind it” but it is inevitable. My fear is we will not have learned a lesson from this one and treat it as political fodder once again. Complete shutdown only prolongs it. It does not do anything to eliminate it.

Well Biden has you covered SH, said there could be a need for new lockdown if we do not hold the line.
I have to say I think the concept of a July celebration is quite the political win. But he did qualify it by saying ‘small’ gatherings.
Not to be rude about it but I did come away feeling sorry for the guy. I really think one could see the strings on him if you tried hard. He did the best he could and tried to show the concerned grandfather image which is his mantra imo.

    Biden: Village Idoit.

A very bizarre speech... NOT a "press conference"!

His, no doubt, highly rehearsed and caffeine aided WH "address" written by a creative liberal speechwriter is such a F joke. Taking indirect credit for what Trump did before him re: virus.

Taking credit that all adults in the US can get vaccine May 1....

HELL JOE! ... May 1 vaccines for adults was already discussed, planned - an expressed priority and going to happen prior to China Joe taking credit for it.

50 days into a new Presidency Joe...still, NO PRESS CONFERENCE.

No doubt, crouching Jen will have a press conference on Friday and have incredible support for Hidden Joe's "INCREDIBLE" (or similar adjective) message to the American people.

With promises of snacks for the positive people in the press corps.

Biden Admin won’t allow reporters in to see the conditions for migrant children in Carrizo Springs. What about the ships parked in ports full of children. Some being hauled in shipping containers. No cameras there either. Uh, ok.

That's not what I said, now is it?

If you think cutting taxes doesn't increase tax revenues, you're beyond help or simply don't want it

Oh wow, Tucker C cannot last. He blasted Biden and his military appointee Austin on our military. All true and scary stuff but he’s got some brass to report it so directly. It gives me such comfort to know Biden is directing the military to research maternity pilot suits, I feel so much safer knowing.

That’s not what I learned in all of my economic classes. Supply side economics worked when you decreased spending in conjunction with cutting taxes. It moved the LM curve in a good way. Cutting taxes without cutting spending is like double crossing yourself when you’re trying to cut across the OB on a dogleg.

The unemployment rate went to historic lows. Tax cuts helped to fuel that.
People made a killing in the market in the Trump years (I was able to semi retire, early). Tax cuts helped that as well

The spending? We agree. Unfortunately Biden has the pedal to the spending vehicle metal and we're headed to the cliff in a hurry. Who can reverse the bad policy? Not Biden

Surely you understand that a business tax increase is passed on to the consumer? As business costs increase, business owners increase prices for goods and services. In the end, business taxes are just individual taxes disguised as inflation.

I'm ok with a chance that the free market controls buying choices.

You are this now as Costco is chipping away at Walmart. Costco competes in the same price, pays their employees way more, and makes a nominally lower margin.

Not every company tries to gouge people.
