I was watching some nameless summer replacement TV show years ago. The premise of the show was that they'd have two bands face off against each other and the winner would advance to the next round to face another band, etc. One round featured Tommy Tutone playing 867-5309 against some god-awful rapper. The winner was chosen by the studio audience, which looked to be mainly composed of teenagers. Anyway, they chose the rapper to advance over Tommy Tutone, who sounded great. That's when I realized that rock and roll was dead or dying at the least. I blame it on MTV, who brained-washed a whole generation into thinking that rap was cool.

I needed to rent a car from National in a pinch a few months ago. I’m normally Hertz.

When I got to the counter, they needed 2 contact numbers. After explaining twice that I ONLY have a cell number, the agent said “well I can’t rent to you without a second number.” I said 8675309. And off I went.

They've never done that to me, and I've had gold elite status. Maybe because I've been a member so long.

I have a funny story about National though. I was meeting up with a friend for a game in NO, we were on different flights. I got on the National rental bus, sit down and I hear a very familiar voice, there were only 2 people on the bus. I looked over and sure enough it was Craig Way. When we got off the bus I could see the Emerald Isle had a bunch of crappy chevys and a Pontiac GP, well at least the best on the lot. Craig actually got off before me and headed for the GP, but he paused to look at his phone or something so I walked past him and got in the GP. When I turned around and looked he gave me a dirty look. Sorry Craig, you snooze you loose.

Same here on the giving a number Theii’s. Back when stores would ask for your phone number I always gave one that was fictitious. Girl I dated told me she always gave the dog pound number to guys she thought were creepy so I did that for awhile too. Thought I was so cool when I was young, oh well.

At the risk of being disowned here. Never saw the hype over the Beetles. Still puzzles me.
Ahhh, Sgt. Peppers Linley Heart Club band or Yellow Submarine reminded me of something one would see on HR PuffNStuff.

Well, the Beatles were much better.

And Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was a much better album.

    ;) :D

The Beatles never have done much for me either.

Did they transform the music scene in 1960's America? Yes, yes they did. Did any of their stuff speak to me? No, no it did not.

I was born in 1958. As a child and on into my teenage years, The Beatles were the undisputed purveyors of cultural effect and change; the zeitgeist. To see a band morph so dramatically as they grew was what made them unique to me. They experimented in the studio and the depth of talent produced probably at least 100 songs, each of which were legitimate pop classics in their own way; some transcendental. Every album release was an event. Every album was an artform without filler. It was a feeling of living in a special time when they were together and when they finally broke up, it was a stunning end to a world that was a part of our lives. They meant that much to me.

Growing up with the Beatles I thought they had some good songs but were never my fav. Then I started listening to the Sirius Bestle channel for awhile and realized just what true talents they were. Pretty cool, strange how we hear but don’t listen when we’re young.

    Good Lord man.
I jokingly corrected your spelling as I've seen so many do on this site to fellow posters.
Sorry your skin is so rice paper thin.
    Adios.

When I got Sirius, I was excited to learn that there was a Beatles channel. But I’m really disappointed in it. I know there may be a lot of people who are interested in learning about the background and so forth, but I just want to hear the music. It seems like every time I turn to that channel, they’re not playing music — somebody’s talking. And back I go to Lithium.

I'm a child of the late 70's early 80's so I don't give much thought to music of the 60's. With that said, I've started listing to Johnny Cash and I'm digging his music.

I still hate anything involving 60's counter culture so I think the Beatles suck but I'm an anti-hippie.

I was born in 1960 but never became a Beatles fan I thought their music was rather plain. I know their music was a game-changer but I was more into Elton John and other pop artists such as jim croce, harry Chapin and others.
