It's easier to load the box cars with unarmed citizens than those who have the means to fight back. If they come for my guns they won't find them. I'm making sure of that. If this makes me an outlaw then so be it, I know I won't be the only law abiding citizen who goes to jail for this tyranny.

My forefathers fought the British, in the Revolutionary war, some fought at San Jacinto, some fought in WWI, WWII and Vietnam. If this is my fight then so be it.

Sheldon, for gun ownership to matter, there has to be some kind of organization of free men.

Bought drinks for two retired Army Rangers last night. Always my policy to buy police, fireman or military food, drinks, haircuts or whatever if I’m present.

They assured me the military will be on the side of the second amendment should the government try to confiscate weapons.

Yes those Rangers would be but what about the current and future members? The ones being indoctrinated by the current heads of our military? People like Austin?

    A. First, Kudos to you.

    B. The "the gubmit will try to confiscate our weapons" argument is weak. There is like 75% approval of universal background checks from GUN OWNERS and it can't get off the ground because of the gun lobby. Yes, bad guys will still access guns. However, making it more difficult to do without legitimacy will slow some down. Also, some small things like temporarily "taking possession" firearms of accused domestic abusers in the middle of their ongoing cases will save lives. There are little wins that we could all do that would not harm any law abiding citizen's right to responsible gun ownership. With all of my red state pro gun folks I know I can only think of one guy that I would like to not see own guns.

Colorado has red flag laws yet this Syrian did not appear to trip any of them. He had no noted disqualifiers nor were therw disqualifiers on the paperwork that goes to the feds at point of purchase.

Absent a final conviction on a disqualifying offense, he earlier arrest is not something that disqualified him and it does not appear that he was under mental disability with guardianship.

What people do NOT want is some process that results in weeks of processing so that they can be approved to make a sub-$1K purchase. Added bureaucracy and fees help NOBODY. What the left wants to do is make it more costly and time-consuming to make a simple purchase than to go to the DMV and get a license to pilot a two-ton weapon...

They indicated there is a current push to change the military and how it operates which started under Obama. There are millions of veterans though along with a majority of current members who are pro 2nd amendment.

We still do not know where the Boulder shooter got his gun

I wonder how many of the guns used in Chicago Philadelphia etc daily shootings were legally obtained?

You do know Biden has talked about EO on “assault” weapons defined by him? The far left is in control of the house, senate and the POTUS. They will soon start packing the SC to get their way. These are not down the middle Joe Manchin democrats. I’m surprised you can’t see it.

Anybody with one iota of knowledge of guns has to cringe when he/she sees the words "assault weapons".

Herein lies the major issue with these types of restrictions and this type of thinking, they're subject to personal bias and abuse. Maybe I think you shouldn't own a gun. Who makes the decision, some leftist government thug who's more than happy to use any type of justification to disarm any and all citizens?

Wonder how long before the left decried this one as an "assault weapon."

it isn't...it is a training weapon that is incapable of firing conventional cartridges and is instead used for marking or pepper balls

The guy who has threatened school officials and the law enforcement community and the judicial system? Yeah. He's also the guy who my mom (when she worked at the court house) said, he's just going to fly in here shooting some day.

That said, I grew up with him and we played MANY rounds of golf in our 20's. His wife did some stuff and he twisted off afterwards. His family would concur with me.

Also, he's moved on a little. He's only a touch nuts now. That was 4-5 years ago.

There are no vacancies to pack the court and I don't see Biden adding two justices even if it would even things after the McConnell shenanigans.

You're letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. The red flag laws will protect the abused spouse. They won't protect random people in the community if someone's nuts or even a muslim terrorist.

Packing the court is not waiting on vacancies. It’s adding additional justices to the existing number of spots.

Biden has said that he would not do that. As has Manchin and Senema. So, it's moot even if he wanted to do it.

We're basically still weighing the added bureaucracy of gun ownership versus lives, and since there's no "bright line" to the # of lives that COULD be saved against the amount of bureaucracy we're willing to deal with, nothing will continue to change. Other countries take a look at the same issue and say "we also don't know the answer but we're going to do it anyways."

Even if there was a light correlation to lives saved, the "mah rights" crowd will continue to nitpick about things like private sales, state record noncompliance, HCMs, etc. until the barriers are just ignored altogether. Even a Swiss model, which is extremely lenient by Euro standards (license tied to each weapon and not just the person, improper handling penalties) would be blasted here.

You just made my point. All the laws in the world won't stop the motivated shooter...after all, being law-abiding isn't high on that day's bucket list. Making it more of a challenge for the law-abiding citizen is NOT the answer.

If you don't value natural rights, I don't care about anything else you have to say.

Your statement was loaded with false presumptions about the reality of the situation and the basis of judging issues like this.

The "mah rights" thing was a dig, for sure, but I think it's safe to say that a Hobbesian state of nature isn't where the human race is at. I didn't say to eliminate the 2nd amendment or any others. I think there's a path that the U.S. could take that is similar to other nations and even MIGHT have success, but we're not going to go down that route for the reasons that you could probably enumerate for me.

Sarcasm aside, there are laws in place now that "infringe" upon individual rights contained in those amendments, including but not limited to the 2nd one.
