Yesterday, 15 coaches made the late season watch list for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award. Shaka was one of the elite 15. Confirmation that, at a minimum, Shaka is one of the top 15 coaches in college basketball this year. Congrats Shaka for this well-deserved recognition.

    :bevo::bevo::bevo:

Also named in this illustrious group of 15 elite coaches were the coaches for WV, OU, and Baylor.

Yep,He is a great first half season coach. He starts great and then flops. If he makes it to the tournament he will be one and gone. Shaka needs to go. Let him be a great coach somewhere else. He certainly hasnt down it here.

I love your optimism and glass always half Full opinions re: Shaka. He is an above average recruiter, I think all of us can appreciate that. He’s always gotten a top 20-25, sometimes top 10 class.
Unfortunately, his record over the years here doesn’t match his recruiting success. Not close, really. (47-55 in B12 conference play)
I was really rooting for his coaching to lead the team to exceed the expectations that the talent on the team would have us anticipate.
    So far he has not.
The same problems recur: undisciplined play resulting in momentum killing fouls, turnovers, poor ball movement, desperation shots—not an indication of coaching excellence. And frustrating, unnecessary losses pile up. Especially against less talented better coached teams.

Shaka just flat out out-coached Kansas’s Coach Self—proving again why Shaka is a top 15 coach (at a minimum).

As fans of the Texas Longhorns, we all celebrate Shaka’s and the Team’s successes. It’s great to be a Longhorn.

Darn, Shaka didn't win and just missed out to Juwan Howard at Michigan. I sure thought he was a lock.

I never told you so, but I think many others did. Hey, I admire your love and respect for Shaka, but many fans felt the same about Strong and yet many others feel wrestling is not fake!

Rasslin' is fake? NO WAY! Next you'll tell me that man never walked on the moon, and it was all a Hollywood hoax.

Dion, get this troll outa here before he can shatter any more of my dreams.

Nice try Shak...I mean Chop, but Shaka is a burnt match. Done.

A great recruiter and human (I honestly love the guy), but fundamentally awful as a coach (horrible 1/2 time adjustments, weak player development, barely a career winning record at UT, losing Big 12 record, 3 seasons without an NCAA invite, no NCAA wins) a COVID derived lucky Big 12 Championship in a brutally down Big 12 year won’t cut it.

He will be gone, but the question is after next year, which I predict to be 12 - 20 type season with his contract expiring, or this year.

If I am CDC I wait one more year for the new facilities (and for some of the traditional powerhouses to fill their vacancies) then push ahead.

The field was narrowed down to 4 finalists: the coaches for Gonzaga, Michigan, Baylor, and Alabama. Maybe next year Shaka will make the finals. It’s at least good to know we have one of the top 15 coaches in the game.

The OP makes the point I have posted many times. If these are the "fifteen best", you realize that the pond is dry. Rick Pitino is the only really outstanding coach available, and Chop will get the job before he does.

He will if he wants to. Contradicting the five Marquette fans won't be nearly as time consuming as trying to fend off the thousands calling for Smart's departure.

Scary thought. If Chop is the new coach, can he ban certain posters from attending games? I wouldn't drive from Houston for many, but would attend when he gets us in the Final Four next year.

I really think we should takeover El Patio one afternoon and host a party for Chop in recognition of his undying loyalty and support of the program, but also for taking all the abuse and coming back for more.

So if (a very big if) we were to land Beard, at least we would be replacing one Top 15 Coach (who just dumped us for a traditional “basketball school”) with another Top 15 Coach. An even trade. Either way, we’re heading to the Sweet 16 and beyond next year. Have you seen our incoming recruits—wow!!!! We got jobbed by the refs in the ACU game.

On edit: actually, it looks like Beard didn't make the Top 15 coaches list this year, but he made it the last year we had college basketball, so we'll call it a wash.

Currently, our basketball and football programs need discipline, not a players coach. Sark will bring it and Beard will too if he accepts.

I think Shanka is living rent free in your head not others. When its a mutual parting of ways he didn't "dump us". CDC did nothing at all to stop him. Didn't even make a counter offer. About 90% of Texas fans are absolutely thrilled he left.

We have about 0% chance of making the tourney and winning a game next year because of the shitshow Shaka left behind. The only hope is that the new coach can lure in some great players thru the portal. Great coaches leave programs in better shape than they arrived. He took over a top 20 team and left an absolute dumpster fire.

There you go again. Making everything about Shaka.

The new coach will have a tough act to follow, no doubt. But we’ll be all right.
