I was more impressed with him in this old Dan Patrick interview. Not quite so impressed with himself.

Color me unimpressed with Beard, as well. At tech his teams were ranked:
    20-21 scoring O #136, scoring D#23
    19-20 scoring O #147, scoring D #29
    18-19 scoring O #162, scoring D #3
    17-18 scoring O #153, scoring D #16
    16-17 scoring O #172, scoring D #55

His defense at tech and Arkansas Little Rock were coached by Mark Adams, who when asked by Beard to follow him to UT, declined multiple times.

Texas is just a pit stop until the next opportunity presents itself. 3 weeks after signing with UNLV the TTU job became available and without coaching a single game, he dumped them to take what he called his “dream job” in Lubbock. The fact that he’s a UT alum is simply justification for taking the job. In the last 10 years he has been HC at 5 schools - not including UNLV.

I predict CDC will interviewing candidates for the open HC position in 5 years. :brickwall:

People need to be patient with Beard. Even if he doesn’t come right out of the gate and win the conference (the high standard Shaka set) he’ll build us up and we’ll be competing for, and winning, conference titles in no time. He’s also experienced in deep NCAA tournament runs, and was robbed of a national title. He’s gonna be good folks, just give him a fair chance.

That is how he built Tceh, so I would expect the same especially in the early years.

And if any Ttech recruits end up here.
Recruits create a relationship with the coach that recruited them.
Won't surprise me at all if one or both of these recruits end up at Marquette.

Yes. Shaka is very very good at the relationship side of the equation. I don't blame the 2 recruits for changing their minds.

I don't know the best way to build winning teams that play smart, hard, disciplined winning BB.

I'm not judging how Beard builds his teams, I'm not qualified to do that. I do know winning basketball when I see it. And his teams at ttu fit that bill.

It's mainly the coach that ultimately brings success or not. Look at Baylor, Tech, Gonzaga, they're not the traditional powers but are among the most successful. Beard will bring Texas back to at least Rick Barnes levels and hopefully higher.

    BAHAHAHAHA^^^^

Oh, you must mean Shaka's high standard that includes Zero, nada, none, no NCAA tourney wins? 3 years of one and done in the NCAA tournament.? I sure hope not.

I'll take Beard meeting his own standard of a conference championship, two elite eights and one final four with an appearance in the NCAA Championship game. And winning 9 NCAA tourney games in his tenure at TTU.

We won the Big 12 conference championship--FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. That's the standard Shaka set before he jumped ship to a basketball school. Beard will ultimately win Big 12 championships here at Texas (Barnes NEVER did), but people have to give the guy a chance. Let's see who he brings through the portal. We could be quite good this coming year. We may surprise a lot of people.

Like I've said before, I'll give Shaka his due this season but it seems some of the Shaka defenders on here were serious at first but are kind of playing it off now that he's gone. I don't see how anyone can defend his overall resume at UT unless they are basing it on other factors. If you leave out everything but wins and losses, he was an average coach at best. I believe Barnes did win the Big 12 regular season once and tied once. Certainly not enough for how much talent we've had.

Don’t any of you worry. We will squash the opposition next year. Baylor will quiver in fear. We’ll get our second ever Big 12 championship and push on to the Sweet 16 and beyond. Whoever portals in will have Hepa to feed the ball to down in the paint. And Ramey will take control now that he’s THE guy. All will be burnt orange and the trophy case will be stocked again.
