Ty Madden continues to be an ace starter as he goes 8 innings giving up just one run. Bottom of the ninth saw Kansas get tying run to plate but Horns hold on for the win. Amazingly Texas snaps a 4 game losing skid to the Jayhawks and takes the Thursday opener 5-2.:hookem:

Horns take the Friday night game 7-0 and have won their third straight conference series to start the season. They will look to win a game three though for the first time in conference tomorrow and finish the sweep.:hookem:

This time the Longhorns really need to close it out tomorrow - a sweep is critical for positioning in the Big XII.

Yes agree I am worried that we seem to win the first 2 then we put it on auto-pilot on Sunday. I would like to see that trend reversed.

I agree with Phil except for the Sunday and Mid-Week pitching which for the most part, has been good enough to win. The issue in all losses (i.e counting the first three games) has been the lack of an offense (especially troublesome are the K's).

If you cannot maintain focus and get up for a game against a higher-ranked opponent there are issues. As we have seen the strike-outs in the first three games are occurring regularly on Sundays and Mid-Week games.

Our starting pitching rotation is something else. We need more consistent bats to put us over the top. Or maybe not. Maybe we just win a bunch of 3-2, 2-1 and 1-0 games.

The Horns have two Omaha level starters in Madden and Stevens. The offense needs to help out your Sunday and mid week pitchers and that hasn’t been consistent though today they are up 6-0 in the fourth so hopefully that is good sign.

Witt relieves Kubichek after a lead off walk to start the bottom of the 7th and strands the runner. Still 6-1 after 7.

Nice way to get sweep and now they head into a ten game home stand. Horns need to go 9-1 or 10-0 over these next ten which is tall task but if they can do that they will be well situated for a run at a National seed and that means playing all the way In Austin for a shot at Omaha which cannot be undersold.:hookem:

They got the job done - this was a sweep they really needed. FWHORN is absolutely right - the upcoming home stand is critical, and winning at least nine is the key. Home field advantage in the route to Omaha will really help.

Yep. I grew up on plenty of St Louis Cardinals vs Houston Astros games at the Astrodome, so I have a fondness for pitching duels and low scoring games.

Now, if college baseball would just require wood bats...
