I did find it interesting that one of Aliyah Matharu's new followers is 2023 6'9 Abbie Boutilier out of Flower Mound; really think she could be a silent verbal commitment, especially with Vic and Elena pretty much following all of her family in Instagram and twitter.

Expect her to commit to Texas when her time comes. She is basically another Sam Ehlinger in terms of being a longhorn fan since she was little. Her family is the same way

Matharu provides some needed experience to our guard corps to help our inexperienced point guards plus loss of Taylor. She’s still a smaller guard compared to Taylor. I think we need one larger 2 guard.

Iowa State was recently ranked #12 in next season pole. These two leaving won’t help the Cyclones but the coach always comes up with good additions.

Nina Norman came to mind while watching Matharu playing at Mississippi State.

This video highlights Joanne Allen Taylor, Audrey Warren, Ashley Chevalier, and Lauren Ebo.

Safe to deduce that end-of-season interviews have been completed and all four will be returning.

I like the scout’s report that Matharu is an athletic point guard with a “scorer’s mentality”. Chevalier is more of a classic distributor and Harmon appears to have the “scorer’s mentality”. So a good mix at the point and Matharu can slide to the 2 guard since she is a combo guard. Look forward to watching her.

Academically Matharu will be a junior, but with the COVID season she could either use two or three more years of playing eligibility. Nice to have that flexibility as we recruit future classes.

Understood. Makes sense to classify the girls athletically and academically the same. Then in their senior seasons, Vic and the player can decide if they want an additional year. I would have thought the two JUCOs would be juniors as well since they are both Sophomores at their junior colleges.

I didn't understand the classification of the JUCO players myself... unless its because of the timing. The JUCOS were signed at during the early signing period and only completed their freshman years at that point, whereas Matharu is about to complete her sophomore year.

High school highlights of Matharu... she's played two years of D1 since.

It can be quite an academic leap from a JUCO to UT Austin. If the players are serious about academics, having an extra year could be helpful.

JUCOs are not exhausting one year of eligibility this season, just like Division I athletes. So, our JUCO signees will have 3 years of eligibility remaining in Division I.

Thanks for the video. The athletism, speed, and quickness of our incoming guards is going to give many of our opponents fits in the future. It certainly would be nice to get a taller forward or another center to add to the mix. Maybe a couple of players will throw their names into the portal once we get the ruling from the NCAA on the one-time transfer allowance.

Was expecting this. Vic seems to tell them like it is about how he anticipates how they will fit into the future. She didn’t make the final rotation this year. That has to tell her something.

If Ortiz finds the right fit, it could work out really well. She played her freshman season at Penn State, sat out a year, then played this COVID season that doesn't use eligibility. Unless there is some other restriction, that means she has three more years of playing eligibility.

As expected. Her playing time dwindled as the season progressed and I took Coach Vic's statements that he could no longer play players who refuse to do the things the coaching staff was asking and who keep making mistakes to be referencing Karisma.

    Still waiting for Rickea....

Considering Karisma spent her first season far way from home at Penn State, and her second and third seasons at Texas, I'd expect her to land closer to home in California this time around. Perhaps UCLA, USC or Berkeley would be a good ft for her.
