On LHN now. I've seen it several times times but will watch once again...gawd I loved that team: Street Wishbone magic, Worster, Freddie and what they accomplished.
And don't forget my namesake, Happy Feller! #5! We had a pool table when I was growing up, and I always called the 5 ball Happy Feller.
1969, good year to be born IMHO.... one of the favorite years of my life for many reasons. Horns NC was part of that.
Yes but haven’t tuned in for months now. Waiting for all the wok3 **** to go away. In other words, I may not tune in again. But I have seen the 1963 and 1969 shows.
1-1-70: Horns beat Joe Theisman and ND 21-17 to win the NC in the 100th year of college football. I was at that game with my UT graduate Dad. It was a special game / time we both savored the rest of our lives.....
Graduated HS and joined the Navy that year. I've posted 3 or 4 times my experience watching the game in a barracks with 20 or so guys who were all rooting for Ark. The only other Texan was an ag fan, so, of course, he rooted against UT. So began my hate for ag.
The Arkansas game was a bettor's dream that only comes along once in a lifetime. Take the opening line and one team, then flip to the other team with a different line, hit both and the payoff was a huge multiple.
So why haven't they done one for the '70 nc? Okay, just make a passing mention of the bowl game (no video, please).
Two Three reasons: 1. As mentioned above, he's the 5 ball in pool 2. I thought anyone named "Happy" was cool 3. I'm a happer feller muhself!
I think I remember the 1969 schedule in order off the top of my pointed head: @ Cal - Berkley NAVY Tech Rice ou Bailor @SMU TCU @aggy @Arky ND I attended Navy, ou, TCU, SMU & ND games. 3 of those were blowout wins. For example: Horns beat Frogs 69-7.
Bro, You have point of order on this one... I was going by a 50 + old memory of the order - suspect you are correct....I didn't bother to look it up... but gawd what a sweet season of victories in 1969 !!! Blowout wins vs. poor Navy, Tech, Rice, TCU, SMU, aggy., etc.! Convincing win over a good ou team 27-17 - with a Heisman winner RB- Steve Owens. I seem to recall Bailor was a fairly close game as the team focus was elsewhere.... someone correct me if I am wrong.
Worster, We won 30 games in a row, and covered 29 times. The one was at Waco in 68, which is the famous DKR game where he didn't go in the locker room at halftime until the very end, and said (paraphrasing if not quoting), "Ladies there's a helluva football game going on out there, I'll be glad to watch if y'all decide to join it". 1969, we destroyed Baylor in Austin. Again, that's from a very foggy, old memory, so could be wrong.
OK - got curious and checked actual schedule for 1969 team. @SabreHorn - your foggy old memory was correct: it was Bailor, TCU, aggy in that order AND Horns blew out da bearz: 56-14. 11 Games 11 Games Table G Date Day School Opponent Conf Pts Opp W L T Streak Notes 1 Sep 20, 1969 Sat (4) Texas @ California Pac-8 W 17 0 1 0 0 W 1 2 Sep 27, 1969 Sat (4) Texas Texas Tech SWC W 49 7 2 0 0 W 2 3 Oct 4, 1969 Sat (4) Texas Navy Ind W 56 17 3 0 0 W 3 4 Oct 11, 1969 Sat (2) Texas N (8) Oklahoma Big 8 W 27 17 4 0 0 W 4 Dallas, TX 5 Oct 25, 1969 Sat (2) Texas Rice SWC W 31 0 5 0 0 W 5 6 Nov 1, 1969 Sat (2) Texas @ SMU SWC W 45 14 6 0 0 W 6 7 Nov 8, 1969 Sat (2) Texas Baylor SWC W 56 14 7 0 0 W 7 8 Nov 15, 1969 Sat (2) Texas Texas Christian SWC W 69 7 8 0 0 W 8 9 Nov 27, 1969 Thu (1) Texas @ Texas A&M SWC W 49 12 9 0 0 W 9 10 Dec 6, 1969 Sat (1) Texas @ (2) Arkansas SWC W 15 14 10 0 0 W 10 11 Jan 1, 1970 Thu (1) Texas N (9) Notre Dame Ind W 21 17 11 0 0 W 11 Cotton Bowl (Cotton Bowl (Dallas, TX))
I was living in Oklahoma 15 miles west of Fort Smith Ar ( about 65 miles from the game) Texas couldn't get out of their own way for three quarters, hog fans forget Texas had like 5 turnovers to make the game closer than it was.
