I've said more than once that Vic will make the right hire. He knows what he needs. My reference to Nneka was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time taking the opportunity to mention that one of our own is doing a great job in the coaching ranks. I was actually really surprised to see her name on that list.

But there was also a discussion of why KA hiring ex-Texas stars and fan favorites did her no favors.

Bottom line is the candidates have to be QUALIFIED and a GOOD FIT... whether they graduated from UT or Slippery Rock State.

For real!! I was absolutely dumbfounded when she hired Jackson...she was a great player don’t get me wrong, but Aston made some extremely questionable staff hires and it showed by the lack of development and transfers. That was another thing, she as an amazing recruiter or someone on their staff was, but a good chunk left.

Sidney Cooks to Seton Hall. Evidently her good friendship with Andra Espinoza Hunter (formerly of UConn and Miss St) drew her there.

Oklahoma State Associate Head Coach, Bill Annan, started following both Vic Schaefer and Elena Lovato on twitter. Might not mean anything, or might mean he's a candidate to fill Johnnie Harris' position:

Bill Annan - Associate Head Coach - Women's Basketball Coaches - Oklahoma State University Athletics

During his six seasons in Stillwater, the Cowgirls have won 130 total games and made postseason appearances each year, highlighted by the Cowgirls' four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 finish in 2014 and the program's first WNIT title in 2012. Annan played integral roles in recruiting, opponent scouting, post development and OSU's offensive and defensive schemes.

Excellent observation Moooooo! Why would someone do that at a time when a coaching spot is open. I hope there is something to this. I have met this guy a few times and he is one of the nicest guys you will meet. Would be an excellent hire.

Happens all the time out on twitter. That's how I noticed who the new assistant softball coach might be last summer. And, there were so many of these types of "follows" out on twitter as Coach Sark was assembling his staff of football assistant coaches.

Watched Longhorn Extra the other night on LHN. Interview with Vic the day after the Elite 8 loss. He stated "You'd be surprised, there are a lot of kids wanting to come to Texas this morning." As he discussed the 2021 recruiting class a bit, he stated that "you never know; we still may add another piece or two."

That definitely makes me happy! I was getting kind of nervous but now I know kids are wanting to come to Texas. I also hope we add 3-4 more pieces and Vic is just saying that to keep us on edge

Oregon State Assistant Coach, Katie Faulkner, started following both Vic Schaefer and Dionnah Jackson-Durrett on twitter. Might not mean anything, or might mean she's a candidate to fill Johnnie Harris' position:

    https://twitter.com/coachKTB/following

Katie Faulkner - Women's Basketball Coach - Oregon State University Athletics

She has completed four seasons with the Beavers. Oregon State won 23 games in 2019-20, despite having the NCAA Tournament cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Working largely with the posts, Faulkner helped develop freshman Taylor Jones, who set the Beavers freshman record for blocks in 2019-20, and earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors. Faulkner also worked with freshman Kennedy Brown, who was having a stellar campaign prior to suffering an ACL injury in February.

Faulkner helped Oregon State to 26 wins in 2018-19, and its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament berth. Faulkner was instrumental in the development of Oregon State’s bigs, including 2018-19 senior Joanna Grymek.

In her second season with the Beavers, OSU went 26-8, finished tied for third in the Pac-12 and earned a spot in the Elite Eight for the second time in program history. Faulkner was instrumental in the development of center Marie Gulich, who proved herself as one of the top post players in the nation. In 2017-18, Gulich was named a Lisa Leslie Award semi-finalist, and earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors for the second-stragiht season. The center was also selected as Pac-12 Media Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the first round of the WNBA Draft.

One of the most impressive young coaches in college basketball, Faulkner has helped guide Oregon State to a 31-4 record in 2016-17, as well as a Pac-12 regular season title. Working primarily with the posts, Faulkner helped Gulich earn All-Pac-12 honors for the first time.

Also following Rickea Jackson and her mother. Not sure how recent that is but this would be a great get. If she can bring Taylor Jones with her back to Texas and in Austin then it would be even better.

Faulkner seems like she fits the profile of coaches Vic seems to favor: younger, up and coming coaches. Considering what the PAC 12 typically pays its head coaches, I assume that would apply to assistants as well and Texas would be able to bump her salary significantly.

I read her bio, and also read the bio of the two male Associate Head Coaches on the OSU staff last night. Hers struck me as more impressive as it came to individual player development; but, she is most likely the lowest paid of the three based on job titles. So, perhaps she is looking for more financial appreciation.

Not sure if she is responsible for all the post/forward recruits OSU has landed the last several years, but they sure don't lack size based on their current roster (although some have already transferred out this off season).

Another thing why Faulkner fits the profile is that she is female! More than ever there is a demand and strong movement that female coaches be promoted over their male counterparts in the girls game! And I am all for it! Girl power!

Same here all for it when candidates are equally qualified and a good fit. Females need the opportunities!

People can piss and moan all they want about Vic being hired to take over the program but, not only has he always hired all female staffs, he has given them responsibilities and helped mentor them for bigger futures if they so choose.

Why stop with Taylor Jones? Maybe she could convince 6'6 Kennedy Brown to join her and move closer to her home in Kansas. :p I remember she did visit Texas unofficially way back under prior coaching staff.

I think Coach Katie Faulkner would be a great replacement for Johnnie Harris.

OSU has done an impressive job with the player development at their frontline positions over the past several years. Kendra Suttles, Liz Donohoe, Brittany Martin, Kaylee Jensen, and Natasha Mack have all been very good players.

That would be surprising because to my knowledge, Vic has NEVER had a male asst coach unless I’m missing one?.....
