How come all of our sports of late not coached by Tom and Shaka are doing great vs mediocre results?

    Is this a rhetorical question?
Because Shaka and Tom sucked which is why they are now gone.

Because a school with the resources of Texas should be able to stay competitive in the non-revenue sports. Especially in a year like this with the pandemic... when mid-level schools have to make a ton of cuts, those same cuts don't really hurt us as much. I assume we're near or at the top of the Director's Cup standings, but they put it on hold back in November due to the pandemic scheduling and what-not.

No one likes the response of "football and basketball are hard," as this board's reactions to press conferences have been the vomit emoji for a while now, but it definitely holds true when looking at the Director's Cup. Clemson beat the everloving **** out of Alabama the last time they were including college football as part of the overall rating, and Clemson was still just #14 in the Cup standings.

Amazing things happen when players spend more time focusing on their sport as opposed to extraneous issues.

I'm just curious if this thread would set the record for longest title.

Hmmm I can’t say why all the teams not coached by Tom or Shaka don’t suck. It’s on the tip of my tongue but I just can’t think of the reason why only the teams coached by Tom and Shaka sucked.
    someone help me out

I think CDC has a good chance of having built quite a legacy. But its early yet.

Volleyball, women basketball, and softball to name 3 had slumped compared to past excellence.

How many schools won their bowl game, made it to NCAA (men and women) and CWS? Maybe NC State but I think their men’s team missed (edit - this is correct).

Texas should have won this a few times in the early/mid 2000s probably. I'm glad the NCAA put a max sport count on this. Stanford has like 60 varsity sports so it's never a fair fight.

Directors' Cup seems silly anyway. Awards are given out at the individual sport level. No need to sum them up for a total level award.

I don't have a problem with it as it is an athletics department award for overall excellence. The big issue was that Stanford won every year because they just had more sports than everyone else.

They used to have the all sports trophy. Is that the director's cup?

I like it. Shows overall excellence as an athletics program.

Problem is that Stanford essentially has it on lockdown due to the sheer number of varsity sports they offer and the "pass/fail" system they have in place leading to bountiful scholarships.

Ok, but who's buying a Directors' Cup champ t-shirt? CDC but nobody else. Who's buying a t-shirt if the baseball team wins in Omaha this month? Quite a few of us.

Well until apparently this year the only fans who could buy a Directors cup shirt were Stanford fans. I don't get diminishing an award that honors the best overall athletics program each year. It's a huge honor.

    2003,

Have you ever seen a Stanford grad, fan, or student wearing a "Directors Cup" cap or shirt? They don't even sell them at the Track Shack in Palo Alto.

"Diminish"? Not at all. It was an award created by Sears to honor economically destressed and under performing programs to help get their "too cool to care crowd" to open their checkbooks.
