My first pint at a pub since October. At least we can eat outside. It's 45 degrees and windy, but the pubs are full, because people are desperate to eat out.

Thanks. The lockdown here has been ridiculous. At least they're starting to ease it now. People are done with this crap. On Thursday, I got my first haircut since early December. I didn't look like a hair metal star from the '80s, but I did look like John Lennon in around 1966. For a guy accustomed to having pretty short hair, it was pretty rough and shabby.

Good thing I'm out of Germany. They're reentering full lockdown - about as strict as they were at the beginning of the pandemic.

We have postponed a cruise from Paris to Normandy three times beginning last June. We’ve not re-scheduled since France went back to full lockdown.

Yep, those lockdowns seem to be working. Keep doing that.

    Dumb asses.

Yeah, it's stupid, and it sucks. We used to have friends and family visit pretty regularly, and we'd show them around and have a good time. We've had no guests since December 2019. No family member has seen us since July 2019.

I haven’t heard any of the ultra pro vaccine folks here admit that some people were smart holding off on getting vaccinated to be safe from side effects. Even though statistically not that likely to have a problem, one has been pulled for safety reasons.

I'm sure it's not the only reason, but the free alcohol is usually enough to overcome my presence. We party hard with company. It's not that anyone gets ****** drunk (though Mrs. Deez gets a little loopy at times). We go out quite a bit and see the good stuff, but even when we stay home, I keep the beer, wine, and liquor available throughout the day. I can also make fruity chick drinks if I need to, and since women are obsessed with chocolate, I make sure there's fancy-*** chocolate around. And for a dude, I do food well - lots of grilling, homemade stuff, and my cheese fondue is legendary.

Same is true of catching Covid, unless you are old and diabetic.

Everyone needs to make their own decision, weighing the risks and advantages. Once everyone has a chance to get the vaccine, there should be no more restrictions on anything.

I'll apologize if anyone put this study up before. Study shows that masks don't work.
Facemasks in the COVID-19 era: A health hypothesis

    Their conclusion:
Data suggest that both medical and non-medical facemasks are ineffective to block human-to-human transmission of viral and infectious disease such SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, supporting against the usage of facemasks. Wearing facemasks has been demonstrated to have substantial adverse physiological and psychological effects. These include hypoxia, hypercapnia, shortness of breath, increased acidity and toxicity, activation of fear and stress response, rise in stress hormones, immunosuppression, fatigue, headaches, decline in cognitive performance, predisposition for viral and infectious illnesses, chronic stress, anxiety and depression. Long-term consequences of wearing facemask can cause health deterioration, developing and progression of chronic diseases and premature death. Governments, policy makers and health organizations should utilize prosper and scientific evidence-based approach with respect to wearing facemasks, when the latter is considered as preventive intervention for public health.

@Garmel, c'mon man! Without the masks the vicious and overly contagious covid would be overwhelming the ICUs. Flatten the curve!!!!

Ha, I almost wrote that with a straight face.

Supposedly, this study has false assertions. I don't know if that's correct or just an MSM hit job on someone who dared to challenge the mask cult.

I'm open to a world where masks are considered ineffective. I'd like to think that we could use herd immunity to get to a maskless world. To achieve that more people would need to actually get the vaccine.

The masks are probably not at zero effectiveness but they aren't much. So statistically small that's it's not worth enforcing them. If you look at what the literature and experts said about masks before Covid reminds me of the opposite of hydroxychlorine. Masks had limited use against viruses and hydroxychloroquine worked against coronaviruses just 2 years ago. How all of this did a 180 I have no idea.
Yeah, vaccines are the key to stopping this. Just hope this new technology has no long term side effects but as of now they look to be safe.

Garmel, I wouldn't trust Snopes. Super biased journalism majors playing god with "truth".

I know. They could be telling the truth here but I'm highly skeptical of their claims. In the name of fairness I thought I should put out something that contradicts the study.

To be honest, me posting a link to snopes and Feldman posting the same link are way different. They generally lean to my world view and not Feldman's. So, if he's posting it, it's the equivalent of me posting a fauxnews link to prove my point. :)

Our system as gotten around 20,000 people vaccinated. I don't think we had one person who had symptomology significant enough to be a reportable thing in the short term. And, creating an antibody has no longterm implication.

That is fair of you. Also, there are claims in the mask article that you could tell didn't apply to the general population. The idea that hypoxia is a threat to everyone wearing a mask for long periods of time would have to be studied for many years.

However, Snopes doesn't address 2 important points which makes me think they were true. First, that the masks don't really prevent spread. Snopes quoted one study about detecting virus in droplets. But he didn't address the size differential. He didn't address actual spread of contagion in the real world but a small lab study. Second, he didn't address the fact that exercise with masks can lead to lower oxygen levels. He made a blanket claim that it didn't affect O2 levels. However, sitting at a table is different than walking, jogging, running, or working out. I have seen a video showing oxygen does go down. Also we can't say long term mask wearing is healthy because we don't know.

I hope it is healthy because my son wears a mask all da at school including outside and my wife wears one all day at work in childcare. If they have early heart problems then we will know who was being honest.

Some needle responses, some sore arms, some serious but short term reactions where the body is making the antibody. Moderna worse than pfizer. Nothing serious enough to report as a "response".

I experienced a sore arm for about two days on the Pfizer shot. That was it.

We've had roughly 300+(known) of our 550ish employees who have gotten vaccinated so far. Easily over half have had a fever for 1-3 days after the shots. Some are reporting constant itching without a rash all over their body now that the fever is gone. Those seem like pretty serious "responses" to me.

That does not sound like our experience at all. I have about 15 direct and indirect family that have all been vaccinated with either Moderna and Pfizer. No one reported anything other than a sore arm and limited symptoms. My elder daughter whined for a day. That was it. I slept VERY well after both doses.

Additionally, none of the approximately 75 employees that I see daily report any symptoms past a few days.
