...of Barry Sanders. I know Sanders is running back royalty, Hall of Famer, etc. And that Bijan has yet to put skins on the wall. But the guy has incredible quickness, stop/start & change of direction moves that break down DB’s like I haven’t seen on the 40 acres in forever.

Best back since Ricky IMNSHO. The young man is a class act, with Heisman written all over him. And it could happen in 2021.

Sanders would have rushed for 1 million yards on a better team with a better line

Agree that he certainly seems to have some "next level" talent. Exciting to see this young man's game and skills continue to develop.

Byron Hanspard is a good comparison. I'm thinking Emmit Smith.

Haven't seen enough of him to draw any comparisons, but my first thought was Pat Sheehan, although Bijan is not as fast as Pat was, the ability to cut and accelerate is similar.

I have always thought of The Juice with his ability to see the field and his lateral moves.

Hey SabreHorn, tell me what you know about Pat Sheehan. I grew up in San Antonio and I remember that name very well. I looked him up and found that he led all high school rushers in Texas in 1965 at Lee HS in San Antonio. But I couldn’t find anything after that. I thought he had gone on to college at UT but I can’t find any record of that and I don’t really remember him playing on any of the late 60s UT teams. Do you know? Thanks!!

Pat signed with DKR. He was a great HS running back, and like Earl had Tim Wilson with the Oilers, Pat had a really good fullback (I believe Bruce Kemp, guy went to A&M).

I know "A story" but not sure of its accuracy, so I won't post it. Last time I saw Pat, he was driving a courtesy car for Charles Maund Oldsmobile in what would have been his second or third year out of HS. I took an active's 442 for service and he took me back to the fraternity house. I didn't ask any questions, but heard the story multiple times from people in Houston once I moved here.

There's a guy that posts on this board (can't remember his name), who I think knows the real story. He alluded to it one time in a cryptic sort of way.

Thanks, SabreHorn! I hadn't heard that name in a long time but I remembered it. I thought he had gone to UT. But I guess he never really hit it big in college. Chris Gilbert would have been there, and Ted Koy and Jim Bertelsen and Steve Worster, so maybe he kind of got lost in the shuffle.

Freshmen couldn't play then, and I think Coach Ellington was in charge of the freshman team. There was a ton of talent on that team who got derailed. Guy named Alan Avant was OG/DL. Alan made the All SWC Freshman team both offensively and defensively. Cotton Speyer was a hurdler at Port Arthur and never got close to Alan or the other guy from PNG who went to Rice. Alan suffered an injury to his hand and the doctors told him he could never play again. He was big, strong, quick, fast, and a really good guy.

That said, I remember hearing that Pat suffered "an injury", but not sure what kind, how, or when.

Thanks for the info! I followed UT sports (and San Antonio sports) pretty closely as a kid, and I just couldn’t remember much about Pat Sheehan after high school. I do sort of remember the blocking back going to A&M. Linus Baer was another Lee HS kid who went on to UT. He, too, got injured in college, and though he played quite a bit, because of that he never achieved his expectations.

Linus Baer - there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Growing up in San Antonio and playing football you can't avoid hearing about "The Game". I didn't come around until a couple years later but always understood Baer and Lee HS vs Warren McVea and Brackenridge HS was one of the most amazing displays of talent ever in a high school game. TV footage I've seen doesn't do it justice given technology in 1963, but my dad played against both squads and always said those two were unstoppable.

    Vino,

Our head coach got the game film of that game and had the entire team watch it. One deep kickoff the entire game, and it went for a TD. Brackenridge coach moved McVea to QB to make sure he got the ball every play (or Richard Castillo was back in jail).

Film was poor quality (8 or 16 mm).

I seem to recall that McVea and Brack played Chris Gilbert & Spring Branch one of those years. Lots of grumbling because that was one of those games that Brack had to get Castillo out of jail to play. (Either that game or the Miller game (or both games) he was bailed out on rape charges long enough to play.)

Joke was that the teachers started McVea on the last page of the text book so he would be caught up at the end of the semester.

There's a nice write up of the game in the 1970 issue of DCTF as game of the decade. An interesting tidbit in the game is that near the end, after a Lee TD, on the ensuing kickoff, the Brack players scrunched up their jerseys so Lee couldn't locate McVay. Lee refused to kickoff until they could see the numbers. The refs made them show their numbers. I've always wondered if Brack could have gotten away with it if they were a white team as Lee was.

You guys in and around San An-tone are far more informed than me about Pat Sheehan. I do remember Linus Baer and heard Kern Tipps describe his play on the Humble Radio Network.

In 1965 I was playing youth football and a big Texas fan but very young and not plugged into SWC recruiting at all.

But my UT grad Dad was. I still remember him raving about UT - DKR re: a huge get by landing Pat Sheehan.

Horns got him but I seem to remember my Dad saying he was injured and somehow he was never the same.

Bijan reminds me (right now) of Barry Sanders and also Cedric Benson with moves more like Jamal Charles. He is a generational back, haven't seen one since El Ced in Austin.

To me Bijan looks like Adrian Peterson as far as body style, fluidity and running ability. Truth is, he looks like a lot or outstanding RBs I've seen and I expect some poster on some thread 20 years from now saying "(insert young stud RB name) reminds me a lot of Bijan Robinson".

Based upon the interviews I've seen and his education history, I think Bijan's GPA will be in excellent shape.

Sabre, you mentioned Jimmy Saxton on another thread. And I have to say that some of Bijan's stop/start and "instant" change of direction moves reminded me of some of Saxton's insane cuts, jukes and other unbelievable moves he put on would be tacklers back in the day.
I don't think there are too many of us who remember seeing Saxton carry the ball, but oh my, it was a thing of beauty.

Boy, I am not at all ready to put Bijan in that company. I do say he is very good but he's going to have to go through another season for me and do extremely well before I talk like that.
