Post-Trump GOP

I don't think most people have forgotten. I think certain elements of the media cherry pick and manipulate "polls" to make it appear that large groups support the LBGTQ agenda. I still firmly believe that if we had a stand alone proposition ability at the federal level that gay marriage would be voted down, and certainly all of this transgender crap.

 

The transgender crap, probably so. Gay marriage? Almost surely not.

 

When the the Left and the MSM come together on something and put their full weight behind an issue, like gay marriage or rights for trans sexuals, it always seems to become law. They shame all the reasonable people people into supporting it by heckling them with whatever label is most shameful; transphobic, homophobic, racist, etc. Even states can't stand up to them as we've seen with the cancel culture.

It's pretty remarkable that UT is standing up to them on The Eyes of Texas - so far.

 

According to the Daily Mail (a British tabloid), the Daily Beast (a far-left blog) has got it's hand on former Florida tax collector Greenberg's letters and saved screenshots from Signal that confirm two things:

1. Gaetz and Greenberg had sex with the 17yr old girl and paid he for it. They later found out she was not 17 then only re-engaged the sex for $$ scheme when she was 18.
2. Roger Stone was asked for help in getting a pardon. $250k in BitCoin was discussed.

 

Funny you say that, or maybe not, but my ex called the cops because my daughter was with me. She and I have a horrible relationship (same between her and our kids) and I gained full custody of my daughter this past December. For a variety of reasons, she decided to play dumb and pretend our daughter wasn't where she should have been (she challenged the court order constantly with me because she is such a Christian zealot that she refused to accept the divorce) and called the cops. They called me up and asked if my daughter was with me. I said, "Yes, would you like to speak with her?" He said, "Nope. I just wanted to be sure she was with her father which she is. Have a nice day."

I wonder if that phone call is in the statistics somewhere.

It looks like the statement was given after Gaetz and Greenberg ended their "bromance." They need the girl herself to accuse Gaetz on the record.

Gotta love Gaetz's statements. He denies everything criminal, of course. However, he doesn't deny things that paint a pretty slimy picture. He doesn't deny that he paid "travel costs" for a bunch of young women he called his "girlfriends." He also put the "as an adult" qualifier on his denial that he nailed 17-year-old. And of course, he showed naked pictures of the women he banged to other House members. In a sane political climate, that would end your career. But Gaetz will play the "political witch hunt" card (even though the investigation started under Trump's DoJ), and it'll probably work to survive a primary challenge since Gaetz likes to "own the libs."

 

The obvious peddling of pardons was sad yet predictable. Luckily for Trump his people pushed back.

 

I do wonder why that isn't being made into much of a controversy. Makes me wonder if pardon sales (under-the-table, of course) are pretty common and if both parties sorta accept them as perks of the job.

 

If you told me there was a correlation between pardons and presidential library donations I would not be gobsmacked.

It astounds me how effective claiming an investigation to be a "political witchhunt" is as a political strategy. Of course, in the case of Gaetz, it's pretty laughable, because the inquiry started under Trump's DoJ. Do Trump and William Barr have a political axe to grind against Matt Gaetz? Quite the opposite, if anything. Having said that, I do recognize that prosecutions of politicians are frequently done for political reasons. It definitely happens, but none of that makes the accused any less guilty. The response from the public should be, "OK, so what?"

At least for now, I'm reserving judgment on "Gym" Jordan. (I laughed at that.) I'll admit I haven't followed the story very closely, but has there been anything conclusive that he actually knew what was going on? What I've heard so far is claims that "it was impossible for him not to know." That's pretty weak. Did anyone put anything in writing and give it to him? On something that serious, you'd think someone would - a letter, a fax, an e-mail, etc. I'm not doubting that this doctor molested these wrestlers. However, let's remember that this is the subject of a civil lawsuit. Ordinarily if an employee rapes somebody, you don't get to sue the employer (the deep pockets) unless you can somehow tie it to the employer. Well, proving that the coach knew about it and did nothing about it is one way to get there, so there's a reason to lie. Obviously Jordan has a reason to lie too, but if it's a he-said-she-said and nothing more, I tend to presume innocence.

 

McCarthy is an idiot. I get that he can't jump totally on board with her, because his caucus has a bunch of Trump apologists in it, but he can at least keep his mouth shut.

 

On Jordan, quite honestly, I've not "researched" it. I just like typing Gym Jordan.

Gym Jordan's time at OSU as the Asst. Wrestling Coach can best be defined as intentional ignorance. To my knowledge there is not paper trail that shows Jordan was aware but given how rampant the sexual abuse was of the wrestlers (and at least 1 wrestler openly claiming it) one would have to have their head in the sand to not be aware.

Jordan's intentional bias on any number of issues and failure to recognize facts that don't support his positions could potentially be applied to his time as a wrestling coach.

 

Honestly, I don't know what Gym knew. It just seems odd that there would be no written record of him finding out if this thing was so common.

Either way, what's really disturbing is this and why I'd never want my kid participating in college athletics. Suppose Jordan did know about it and did the right thing - meaning that he called the police, which is where all of these sexual abuse allegations should be reported and handled. Would he be in Congress today? Hell no. He probably would have lost his job (either by being directly shitcanned or just frozen out), and the entire OSU infrastructure would have crapped on him for embarassing the university. He'd be a night manager at Wendy's.

Of course this happened because some dumbass activists in Europe (as well as in the US) put pressure on the companies who make lethal injection drugs to stop making them, leading to a shortage. I understand the strategy, but it's not going to permanently end the death penalty. It's going to lead to less humane and more painful executions. We used the lethal injection basically to be nice, not because we couldn't come up with another way to execute bad guys. Having said that, I'm not sure that the firing squad is much more painful than the lethal injection. A bullet through through the heart is going to kill pretty fast. The inmate may not even hear the gun fire. I'd sure as hell choose that over the electric chair.

 

Agree. I mean anything that takes place in a few seconds is about as humane as it can be.

Both seem fine to me. I would prefer that executions were horrendously painful, extended, and televised. Maybe it would reduce the incidents causing executions.

 

I don't think so, and the founding fathers didn't think so. It's perfectly rational to impose the death penalty for the worst crimes but also not want to needlessly torture the guy.

I'm not aware of any of the founding fathers being against the death penalty. The Constitution very clearly allowed for it by requiring a due process to deprive someone of life (5th Amendment). That's a pointless provision without the death penalty.

 

I personally prefer they die how they killed. The problem is finding any normal/sane person who could dismember or stab the convicted killer 35 times. Shooting them in the head might be easier for some.
