In the last 5 days we have added Xavier Worthy (4+ star WR from Michigan), Devin Richardson (3 star from New Mexico State who was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American team...3 years eligibility), and now 5 star LB out of Bama Ben Davis (big get for us) to go with Ray Thornton, Darion Dunn, and Ovie Oghoufa. (I may have missed someone).

Has UT become a hot landing spot for transfers?
Whether you believe this is true or not...have to give Sark and the crew props for settling in so fast and getting these guys here..in particular the work that has been done to shore up the LB unit.
    :hookem:
For those who don't know...this is Ben Davis:

Most of these transfers are on the defensive side; how many were in the spring game? Most reports I've read say the defense "won" (I'm not at all an Xs and Os guy, so even I don't trust my own eye test), and if it's getting even better, that's certainly a good sign for the defense.

Either that or the OL needs some work.

    You nailed it.
It is always hard to tell in the preseason....but by all accounts it appears we have one of the better defenses we have fielded in awhile....at least the best preseason defense we've had in awhile.
    Lol
Heard comments from the defense the other day lauding the offense Sark is installing, so.....

I and just about everyone else here is with you on the I'll believe it when I see it proof when and if we ever have another great oline again. Been so long since we've seen one not sure we even know what one looks like
(I want it to look something like Tampas in this past Super Bowl, for the record.

IMHO these are who have a natural advantage when things are new to everyone...
    RB
    WR
    DL
    S
    Some LBs

    These are at a disadvantage...
    QB
    OL
    CBs

I would have liked a couple of OL in the portal

I wish Malcolm Epps the best! I read he is portaging. Never could find him a place to contribute.

I would've guessed S and CB would be the other way around. Safeties have to cover a lot of field (and therefore understand the whole field), and they play both coverage and run support, and even blitz sometimes, while CBs are mostly "Cover that guy."

I probably have this wrong, and I'd like to learn. Explanation?

Probably just me but I thought Davis had been a done deal for awhile. Some NCAA rule that it couldn't be made official?

I can't say I know for certain. I know the rumblings and rumors ran rampant after we brought coach Bo Davis (whom he apparently has a good relationship with) over. Everything I ever read was we were one of his choices and in a good position with him......until yesterday multiple outlets ran it as new news.
Doesn't mean there isn't something to what you are saying necessarily.

By the way I went back and misread my original post "...Bama Ben Davis" to say Bam Bam Davis and laughed it off when I realized...then thought..wait, that's good!
I believe nicknames must be earned....but if he turns into the real deal you heard it here first: Bam Bam.

I think it’s the law of averages kicking in.
With the portal, we should expect to get as many as we lose as long as the program has a pulse. We’re not a hot destination yet, just breaking even finally. (OU is a what I would call a hot destination)
With have had net losses with transfers over the last several years due to the poor hires and I think it just feels good not to be breaking even.

He will have to be one hell of a defender to wrest that nickname away from Steve McMichael.

    You are right.
We will just go with a single Bam to show proper respect to Steve and retire the double Bam

Looking at what ULL is losing, I'm more concerned about their D after watching the Spring Game. They no longer have their "thunder and lightning" RB combo who combined for 1600 yards in only 11 games. Their QB is mobile, but I'd like to think that Coach K won't allow a "Maryland" style defensive debacle game like Orlando did in his first-ever Texas coaching attempt.

Their D returns way more guys than our offense brings back, and it had one of the top efficiency ratings in the country last year. If they can frustrate the QBs or OL, we're in for one of those games like Arkansas State 2007 or Rice 1999 where we'll win the game, but it'll be because we got bailed out by decent defensive play.

That's what they are saying, but it's starting to get crowded at some positions.
Haven't been able to say that in awhile!

This is a completely different feeling than TH. Back then we were hoping to get somebody now we have the feeling we can get anybody!

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Horns have got plenty of talent on the O side to score points. I'm pleased most of these transfers are on the D side of the ball. It can only strengthen them.

    DEFENSE wins championships!!!

    ALL GAS, NO BRAKES!

The D was my big concern. With those guys coming in, I not as concerned. This staff is impressing me more every day.

The offense is “all gas no brakes.” But The defense is “all gas, no brakes, BIG collisions.”

I'm going to refrain on passing judgement one way other the other on these transfers. Binder did the exact same thing bringing in some offensive linemen and other transfers to shore up weak areas. As it turned out binder doesn't work here anymore. I'm certainly happy Sark is making moves but I'll wait to see how they perform to be emotional about these pick ups.

Yep and Juwan is going to Tennessee. Malcom and Juwan will be felt. Don't think Keaontay is felt unless we have an injury :knockonwood:

With the LB we have portalling in, I do not think Juwan's departure will be felt.
