Coach Calamity does seems active early on on social media.

She quickly started following South Dakota's Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda on twitter; she seems to be one of our main targets.

She started following Ohio State commit, Cotie McMahon on twitter; and Cotie congratulated her on her new job at Texas.

I also noticed that and I wanted too see if she would like it but then realized the recruiting shutdown period has begun so I don't think she is allowed to like anything involving recruiting with any players.

This is exciting! Also, I have to assume she’s already familiar with Rori and Kyndall since their schools played each other? Talent and chemistry? Let’s goooooo!

That is actually the second twitter account which Elena created after her first one apparently got hacked. But, it was that second one which she used to start (or re-start) following Amina.

Elena then went back to to using her original twitter account: lovato22

She is still listed on the coaching staff page whereas Johnnie has been taken off. I'm perplexed about what is going on with her status.

One spot behind Jordana on ESPN. So we have #48 and #49. ESPN lists Amina at 6-3.

I'm not convinced that this is the final word on the '22/'23 roster, even though it puts us at 15 ships.

Will someone who has watched Smith, Muhammad and Herron give us a comparison? They all play for DeSoto and range from a low of 6’-2”(Smith) to 6’-5”Herron) depending on the source. I guess Herron is more of a center with the other two more forward types? And they are all ranked between 35 and 50 in the various lists. Having never seen one second of any of them playing, I’m wondering. With special interest on Muhammad. Anybody?

Muhammad is the one I wanted the most. She is long, very athletic, and active. Because DeSoto was so overloaded with talent and especially size, the HS stats aren't real telling. I think she has an upside that is very suited for the next level... good match for Vic's system.

Definitely a possibility since Moore could play 3-5 and the same thing goes for Muhammad. It also helps everyone on that list can lead the fast break so transition offense will be a huge plus for us with these forwards and guards. Even if it's not a starting lineup I feel it's definitely a lineup that will be utilized against smaller teams

If I remember correctly, Aston offered Herron at least 2-3 years ago....perhaps as a freshman. She is committed to Kentucky. I always thought Smith was the best just based on being a few spots ranked higher. Muhammad seems to perhaps more upside being either 6’-3” or 6’-4”, long and athletic and active and can run the floor well. It will be interesting to see if Smith winds up at Baylor or LSU. Also to see which develops best in college.

    Marchfest 2021 - Desoto TX

Starting off with ProSkills 17U EYBL, this program has consistently produced high level athletes for some years now. This year is no different. They have height, depth, and a host of young talent to carry over next year. Led by '22 Amina Muhammad this squad is scary good. All players have the capability to push in transition, and play an uptempo style that highlights everyone's talents. Amina Muhammad is a 6'4 G/F with a crazy motor. I don't think there was a ball she didn't go after. Great hands, great feet, and tough. She played through contact the entire tournament, and she applies a lot of pressure in transition. She doesn't have to rely on guards to push the ball; she goes coast to coast at every opportunity. Already highly touted I can see her upping her status as the season wears on.

Thanks for the info on Muhammad. The write-up lists her as a guard/forward at 6’-4”. So the guard thingy may be a stretch but it also indicates all the features that should allow her to play uptempo like Schaefer likes. Sounds intriguing.

I was really hoping ESPN's recruiting info would be more accurate, consistently updated and more in-depth when Premier Basketball took it over but it doesn't seem to have had that much of an impact. They do have Amina listed as a Texas commit but Jordana is still showing as Wisconsin.

I said in the beginning I was a bit skeptical about the hire but she is really active on social media and is eager to recruit. I think she understands what's needed and the expectation and I'm confident she will be able to connect and recruit what we need.

According to ESPNW, Maya Nnagi committed to Arizona today. She is number 7. Six of top ten and ten of top 20 are already committed.

Hoping we'll still have room for at least 2 more for the class of 2022 . . .

As of now we have two open scholarships so if Vic doesn't add anymore transfers then we should have plenty for the 2022 class. Honestly depends on if Warren, Allen-Taylor, and Ebo use their covid year. If not we could have up to 5 scholarships available. With the two 2022 commitments we have now, we still have three open for the 2022-2023 season so it really just depends on those three moving on or not.

I’m suspecting Allen-Taylor might choose to get her engineering career started. She is obviously a very intelligent and hard working student. Basketball is a high priority. However, for someone who can see their career goal of being a working engineer directly in front of them.....she just might choose the career path and forgo her virus forgiveness year. Not wanting that to happen but a possibility. This is a fair and biased opinion from a retired engineer.
