It's all about perspective, isn't it? The US does have the greatest GDP in history! If you are benefiting from the wealth then all is good. If you're at the bottom of the income scale then poverty has never been worse. Many clearly don't care about income inequality, likely because they benefit from it. We do know that it's much easier and likely to slip backwards in socioeconomic class than move up.

It's the same story different topic with systemic racism. If you have been the beneficiary then it's not in your best interest to recognize it or even change the system.

If you approach them with a degree of respect rather than contempt, Husker and Switzer both have perspective. And I hate saying something nice about Switzer for other reasons.

But only Bubba comments with respect, so the other guy doesn't deserve respect.

As uou remind us all the time you did not go to Texas so why the hate for Switzer?
Of course it shows excellent judgement on your part, just unusual.

Classic misinformation repeated by Libs. Poverty has never been worse? That is truly ridiculous. Compare our "poor" to the rest of the world, or to our poor 100 years ago.

Many don't care about income inequality? That could be true, but it is the individuals not producing that don't seem to care about income inequality. If they cared, they would become more productive. Nobody "benefits" from income inequality. They do benefit from producing, and increasing their own income.

Is it easier to slip backward on the income scale? Yes. Just sit on your ***. That's easy. Is it more likely to slip into poverty than to move up? No. The empirical evidence shows more people moving up than falling back.

Systemic racism? There is no such thing. Go ahead and explain/define "systemic racism".

It is so easy, and so useless, to throw out baseless claims, yet you repeatedly do so, even after your buffoonish comments have been repeatedly debunked. Honestly, what is wrong with you? Is it a learning disability?

He consistently shows me respect even when I disagree with him, which is most of the time. I guess I just don't see the point. Would I be more persuasive if I acted more like a jackass? I don't see how.

Not sure if everyone caught Trump's dangling that he has news coming about 2024 POTUS race and his supporters should be "very happy". His narcissism is going to drive him to run again after he "purifies" the GOP of any truth tellers.

I have no idea if I'm changing their minds or if I'll ever change their minds. Here's what I do know. First, acting like a jackass or being disrespectful definitely will not change their minds. Changing another person's mind requires respect. Second, being disrespectful does not enhance my arguments, and being respectful does not diminish them. Third, by being respectful, I am setting a better example - both for my ideology and my faith than I would be if I was disrespectful.

But if you can tell me the upside of being disrespectful, I'm open to hearing it.

Most people on here are mostly respectful. Some do post in a snarky manner like continously posting lies. Or post in a manner designed to get a reaction.
Those posters do not want their minds changed.

I believe I am respectful until I get **** thrown my way. Never said one should be disrespectful, I don't think. Some people's ideals are just so stupid that engaging them is pointless.

You have to earn respect. Willful ignorance deserves zero respect.

Why don't I get **** thrown my way?

That's how arguments get lost. Ideals seem stupid or not stupid based on the assumptions people make. If you don't engage them, then the ideals you think are stupid effectively become conceded simply by getting repeated enough times and not being seriously challenged. (This is sorta how we lost the gay marriage issue and how we're trying to lose the trans issues, which should be easier to win.)

Also, you and Husker don't really argue over ideals as much as over style, personalities, and anecdotes.

For me, it isn't really about what anyone deserves. It's about what is the right thing to do and the fact that I don't see any upside to being disrespectful.

If you're saying I'm disrespectful, that' okay. Sounds like you are saying I bring on **** from some here based on what I say. And that's okay. I don't agree, and I think several people around here probably don't agree.

I'm the one who gave SH credit when he lied after the 2016 election saying he would give Trump the benefit of the doubt etc and hope he does a good job. I am paraphrasing, but I commented that was good to hear. Of course, like every other liberal, it was total ********. So, again, he deserves and gets zero respect.

Edit: You are obviously a smart guy and good poster, but your comment above on how YOU don't get **** thrown your while I said I do sometimes is pretty ******. It's some sort of lawyer ******** twisting of words. Total BS.

I didn't ask that to be ******. I'm serious. You say that you get **** thrown at you. I don't get **** thrown at me (at least not from Husker). What's wrong with asking why there's such a difference?

Clarification: I did NOT state that I would give Trump the benefit of the doubt. So, "every" liberal didn't say that.

    Hope that helps! :)

I mean this in a [bob stoops voice]great way[/bob stoops voice]. You toil with the Bubba's and Husker's of the world at a sleeves rolled up, Banquet Beer on the tail gate level. Really, similar to my level. You are biased but fun and will be friendly if treated friendly even if you are diametrically opposed. That's what I shoot for as a guest here. Deez toils at a higher level. Hell, I've got two master's degrees and I scroll past some of his stuff as it is deep and hurts my brain when I come here for a distraction. Some of those multiple quote back and forths that those two do are too much for me to dig into if I'm at a soccer/basketball/softball game killing time. When I argue with you it's like we're in line for a corny dog and it's 10:33 and we need to get to our seat. Those two are more like two senators fighting.

You kiss SH’s *** for some reason. That’s why he’s nice to you.

You talk smack about Oklahoma to Bubba and he’s still nice to you.

I don't have your humor and have less patience for superficial partisan crap and broad brush claims. Claims without links to support them are hot buttons for me. There are a few that get my ire that are flagrant abusers of not showing their research. They typically don't like to have to justify that their opinions are based on facts and not partisan hyperbole.
