I was at that hotel Thursday night and nobody was allowed at the bar. The older female bartender was very nice and made a great Manhattan. When I flew out early the next morning, the walkway from the hotel to the terminal was littered with homeless people sleeping. Unbelievable I could have been in the presence of HIC and didn’t know it. Next time I’m there, I’ll PM you to see if your there. Pretty sure I owe you a drink or something.

I was in Orlando Thursday. They must have changed it yesterday. You know...May 1 the Covid can no longer get you at the bar.

I'll be here in PHL throughout March, then thankfully done commuting and back in Chicago.

Mrs II’s and I went to dinner tonight in downtown Nashville. No requirement for masks outside. We stepped inside and put our mask on. The two hostesses had masks on, but not covering their noses. We went to our table walking through multiple patrons not wearing their masks at their table.

Stop the madness liberals. Just f’n stupid.

I read the Ct of PCR tests has been decreased to <34 all of a sudden. The pandemic will miraculously go away.

At what point does America declare that the driving force behind leftist policies is neuroticism?

Hetherington found that the very liberal participants in his survey tended to be the most neurotic.

I think it's becoming pretty obvious to fair-minded people that the "follow the science" mantra was never sincere and that a big piece of this is virtue signaling and political posturing.

That doesn't mean all caution was done in bad faith. Like I've said before, very early on when we knew little or nothing about Covid and how it spread, lockdowns and pretty extreme measures were understandable. I didn't even have a problem with Deez, Jr's school closing last spring. However, we've been past that point for a very long time (at least ten months), and we're getting to the point of just rank idiocy. It's pretty clear that many politicians simply don't want to give up the power associated with locking down as well as the political momentum associated with being in "crisis mode."

Some might argue that all the paranoia is harmless, but it sends a bad message when we're talking about vaccinated people still having to wear masks and still having to lockdown in certain situations. Specifically, it sends the message that the vaccines aren't very good. Keep in mind that the main reason we don't socially distance, wear masks and lockdown to avoid spreading polio (which is a far bigger ***** than Covid) is because we believe in the vaccine. Well, if you want people to believe in the Covid vaccine enough to get it (and accept the risks associated with a rushed and non-approved vaccine), you have to treat it similarly.

Why? The vaccine borders on being a miracle drug at stopping the spread of the virus and keeping the patient from getting serious symptoms. If the far right would get the vaccine that was the result of Trump's best thing he did (operation warp speed) we could move on a lot faster. Hell, do it for the country.

Trump got it (in secret) and Robert Murdoch got it as soon as he could. That should tell you all you need to know. Also, 97% of docs are getting it. 30%ish of cops are getting it (heard it on a podcast). We need to get that 67%.

But on an individual level, we aren't acting like it's a miracle drug - at least not at the federal level and not in blue states. If you told people that they'd get their lives back if they got the vaccine (meaning they could take their masks off, could do normal activities, and could freely travel), they'd have a much greater sense of urgency. Even if they don't want to put it at an individual level, I think it would help if they offered an objective measure of when they'd get their lives back.

I know what you're thinking, because it's what the public health establishment is saying. "If everybody got the vaccine, things would return to normal faster." People don't believe them. Why not? For starters, they were all over the place and politically hypocritical about masks. They claimed the lockdowns were a short term measure to "flatten the curve" on hospitalization. We now know that was a lie. Many of the lockdown advocates broke their own quarantine rules for a myriad of reasons - to eat out at a fancy restaurant, to go on vacations, to get haircuts, and here in the UK, to go nail somebody else's wife. Well, if you blow your credibility on big stuff like that, people aren't going to take you seriously when you say, "OK, we bullshat you all year, but we're being honest now."

If vaccined people didn't wear masks then the unvaccined would get the idea that the pandemic is over since less and less people would be wearing masks. It is a visual signal that there is no or very low risk.

This visual signal would hurt demand for the vaccine and the government probably promised if they produced them they wouldn't be held left holding a full bag of them. So now those in charge have to keep mask usage up to give the visual signal that there is still a big risk from the virus. That way unvaccined people will still want to get the vaccine.

However, they have communicated something they didn't intend, that vaccines aren't that effective. It is of course untrue but people have picked up on the message.

The important thing is of course to be honest and promote freedom. These kind of confusing messages are what you get when you are manipulating people to get a shot, buy a product, or refrain from an activity.

Now the reputation of the CDC and WHO are gravely damaged, at least to anyone who is thinking critically about their messaging over the last year.

It's because it's a new virus. We didn't know that the vaccine stopped the actual spread until it was in action. We are still learning things. We knew that masks helped initially. I got into a snarky email battle on the issue in early February of 2020. My point was that if we followed the instructions we would run out of PPE in 7 work days. Once PPE became available things changed.

I personally think we should be telling people who are fully vaccinated that they don't need to wear a mask. That's me. I'm not a scientist.

The problem is that we've allowed bullshat "facts" to be argued by one side. The same people touting their president's vaccine success won't get the same dang vaccine.

Bullshît. CDC was confounding N95 masks with clothe masks. They could have recommended clothe masks on day one, but they didn’t think they would work.

I think they thought people would not wear N95 masks long term and cloth masks would do a decent job. That's my little bit of mind reading.

The people were advocating for and making their own clothe masks before CDC officially recommended them. This was when CDC was recommending wiping down everything with Lysol wipes. Now it’s 180 opposite: double mask and wiping down is worthless (except preventing the flu).

Borders on a miracle drug? WTH are you babbling about.

Some of us have been out and about every day since this nonsense started and STILL have never had issues. The science says the very substantial majority of people don't need a damned shot.

My immune system apparently identifies as vaccinated.

Me too. I have traveled nonstop to hospitals, worked out everyday that Planet Fitness was open, two funerals and one wedding. Hugged a woman in March who tested positive the next day.
