Thank you Malcom for your support of our horns.

We just have to wake up the bats and hook the cowgirls.

I hope this series gives the team confidence next weekend against OSU. I really want to beat OSU at their place.

Same thing happened to Washington vs. Michigan. Washington having to play two games out of the visitor's dugout.

The funny thing is it's like I had a moment. I fell asleep around 11:30p then woke up as they were celebrating the win at 1:16am, posted my snarky remark to the poster who thinks we'll lose every game then fell back asleep. So I got to see the happy ending. :smile1:

    Various thoughts about the Regional:
    • Shannon and Mary still in a slump. They got a few hits, but the outright whiffs at the plate are still there
    • In the game against Tx State, Jenae hit a curving ball into the outfield where the OF hustled and barely caught it. I saw Jenae take off her helmet and tip it towards the player in respect. Not sure I've seen that done much in softball
    • Was behind some Saint Francis fans as we were walking up and they were just wowed at the stadium. I went and did a google search of their stadium and it's very nice. It just has two sets of aluminum bleachers on each sideline and that's it.
    • We sat next to the grandparents of the St. Francis catcher, who was dealing with wild pitches and passed balls
    • The grandparents were frustrated that it took so long for the coach to pull the starting pitcher and put in the backup. But in the same breath they said, "We're a small school of only 2200 students. We don't have all THIS. And, we only have 2 pitchers"
    • Tx State and their "enthusiastic" crowd. Glad we didn't have to play then in the finals on Sunday
    • Oregon had maybe.....two dozen friends & family fans there? They were boisterous as well
    • Ex-coaches Chelsea Spencer and Kailee Cuico came back for the weekend. Sat behind them for the Texas State game
    • They both wore burnt orange for Saturday's game but were wearing mixed clothing for the Oregon game. Cuico was wearing burnt orange but with a Duck cap....which leads to
    • During the first game, Cuico stood up and started....."educating" a Duck fan about something, which led to that Duck fan getting and yelling back at her, which led to another Duck fan trying to calm both of them down. Cuico kept pointing to her head in a "use your brain" way. Basically, she was defending the Horns
    • And I kept thinking, wow you were here for only 2 years and many more years as a Duck. But I guess the super-fan was picking on one of her girls on our team
    • Someone commented that Oregon "forced" the late game. I'd have to disagree with that. In fact, if Oregon wanted to slink into the Supers, they'd just refuse to play that late and hope that the rain would cause Monday to be cancelled and then they would go to the Supers by virtue of head-to-head against Texas. "use your brain"
    • Yanez had everyone, but Jordyn apparently, flummoxed
    • As other said, maybe we've found our 3rd baseman for the next 2-3 years
    • Next is OSU? Ahhhh, well. At least who know who they are!

Even in victory you are sour. We all thought we had a chance and no one guaranteed anything but you. Was it close? Yep, but I'm pretty sure no one thought it would be a blow out. Just take your lashing and be done with it. Then don't bash the team before the OSU series. :smile1:

Lashing? It's not that serious. I predicted that Oregon would win but they didn't. It's that simple

You want me to give them a cookie because they went to the wire against Oregon? Texas fans and sports fans in general are a sensitive bunch.

Hats off to those of you who stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to watch the game. I have to admit, when I turned the tv off after the first inning I wasn't very hopeful. But what a nice surprise when I woke up and saw the Longhorns won! Started my Monday off right.

    Always enjoy your posts Racer.
    Note on your comment:
    - Ex-coaches Chelsea Spencer and Kailee Cuico came back for the weekend. Sat behind them for the Texas State game.
Wonder if they were here recruiting Taylor Ellsworth and MK Tedder. Both have a year of eligibility left and said they were not coming back?
    - Someone commented that Oregon "forced" the late game. I'd have to disagree with that. In fact, if Oregon wanted to slink into the Supers, they'd just refuse to play that late and hope that the rain would cause Monday to be cancelled and then they would go to the Supers by virtue of head-to-head against Texas. "use your brain" The TV announcer implied that the NCAA did not give them a choice to either play or not play the game in order to finish the regionals. Therefore they waived the 11pm time limit and 45 minutes between games. And he kept going on about the rain forecast for Monday.
    - As other said, maybe we've found our 3rd baseman for the next 2-3 years. Corona was indeed magnificent in her play. And a local girl. You have to love her energy!

For those that did not stay up, there were some most anxious moments, but from a baseball fan (my softball experience is confined to my daughter 8-10 teams & then a year in a private HS), this was one of the best games I've had the privilege of watching. I don't know any of the players and haven't followed them, but was led by the announcers to think that Ms Jacobson was an afterthought. (Anyone remember our #3/4 pitcher having to pitch the National Championship game in Omaha? Roger came through, and last night Ms Jacobson came through.

Perusing this thread, had I not seen the game, I would have appreciated someone mentioning the in the 6th, she face batters 1,2,3 in the order. She started the 7th with 4,5,6. She only had one strikeout through 6 innings, but delivered the big one in the 7th. A lot of pitchers would have been shaken when she gave up that shot that hit a few inches from the top of the fence. A little more, and we are down 2-1. Did not seem to phase her or the infield, who delivered bigtime, particularly that ball hit to third, who quickly looked the runner back and gunned the out at first.

For the complainers (and yes, I am one), our run came as a result of the Oregon second baseman making a fundamental mistake on our fundamental baserunning mistake.

Again, as someone who loves defense (football, basketball, baseball) this was a nerve racking, fun game to watch. Congratulations to Coach White and a special group of young ladies. Now, off to Conoco Tech.

I had not considered that! Would be interesting. I think (without any type of knowledge whatsoever) that Mike said thanks for your play and loyalty to the program. I wish you the best in the future. In other words, not sure how much of it was their choice. This is part of the eventual normalization of the pumped up rosters due to the COVID bonus year.

I mean, Mary didn't get her "senior year" sendoff and has graduated with the rest. (note: M. Elish in this picture)

To be fair to Rhodes, although she is in a bit of a slump she did connect pretty well this weekend especially in the Oregon game but for some reason balls were not making it out the park for anyone this weekend. Our defense looks much improved with Camille at 3rd base so if we can keep up that level of play I'm confident in this team. We do need Rhodes, Burke, and Iakopo to step up this weekend.

Where is Kaitlyn Washington? She’s a fifth year senior??

She came in 2016-2017, so this makes it her 5th year, including the COVID bonus. Maybe she graduated last year and they didn't/couldn't hold a senior's day for her? She's not listed as a grad student.

Watching the replay, a lot of mentions of their motto "22 Strong". They've still got Ari up in the online roster, but if you count her it would be 23.

Within the article, which of course is extremely slanted towards Oregon, there was this statement:

Texas had tied the game in the top of the seventh, thanks to an incorrect call, but in the end, the Ducks emerged victorious.

Typical lazy writing this day. They don't expand on what they deem an incorrect call. Anyone know what they might call incorrect? A strike called a ball?

LHN does not show any softball replays over the next week. I am disappointed too.
