Placekicker on the ‘63 Natty team, went 9-17 in field goal attempts while converting all 24 extra point attempts. He was a difference maker in a season that featured close victories over SMU, Arkansas, Rice, and the aggies.

"Cotton" Speyrer was one of my favorites! Here is a photo showing him scoring a last second "miracle" touchdown against UCLA on October 3, 1970 that would extend UT's winning streak to 23 games at the time (a streak that would eventually stretch to 30 games).

There are a couple players who wore uniform no. 86 that I can think of. One is Mike Campbell, twin brother of Tom Campbell, and member of the 1969 National Championship team and the other is Tim Campbell, brother of Earl Campbell, who blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in the 1975 Bluebonnet Bowl against Colorado. I tried to download a photo of Tim about to recover the blocked punt for the touchdown, but no luck. The blocked punt and touchdown are captured between minute 12:33 and 12:46 in the attached You Tube video, .

This game helped propel Texas to national prominence under DKR. Texas beat Oklahoma 15-14 in 1958. Prior to that, OU had won 6 in a row and 9 out of the last 10 games in the series. This was DKR's second year and starting in 1958 he led the Horns to a winning streak of 8 in a row over OU and won 12 out of 13 games played between 1958 and 1970. Pictured is Bobby Bryant catching the pass from Bobby Lackey (no. 22 in the background) that tied the 1958 game at 14-14 and with the extra point, a win.

Marquise Goodwin quiets the crowd @ pyle, 2009.
This never fails to cheer me up when skies are gray.

Bonus #84 today: Marquis Goodwin with a little block against UCLA. This was 10 years ago but the DB is still dizzy.

The announcer says that Goodwin's hit was a blindside after he crushed the DB's chest. So, UCLA had a blind DB on the field. That's.... unusual.
