Least Competitive Texas Regionals/Super Regionals All-Time

    2021 Regional
    Texas 11 Southern 0
    Texas 10 Arizona St 3
    Texas 12 Fairfield 2
    33-5 +28

    2004 Super Regional
    Texas 15 Vanderbilt 3
    Texas 10 Vanderbilt 2
    25-5 +20

    1982 Central Regional
    Hardin-Simmons 10-0
    Oklahoma 8-0
    Eastern Michigan 7-2 (11)
    Eastern Michigan 9-1
    34-3 +31*
*did have an extra innings game

What a great weekend! I cannot get over Texas easily blowing through the regional like that. I could not remember Texas doing that before other than the Vanderbilt Super Regional I attended. I went through the record books and sure enough, we never really had. That was by far Texas's best regional showing. I think it was a combination of a great Texas team and bad seeding from the NCAA. UT was not alone this weekend.

    2021 Uncompetitive Regionals

    NC State* 8 Alabama 1
NC State 8 La Tech 3
NC State 14 La Tech 7
*NC State was a 2 seed

Notre Dame 10 Central Michigan 0
    Notre Dame 26 Connecticut 3
Notre Dame 14 Central Michigan 2

    Texas 11 Southern 0
    Texas 10 Arizona St 3
    Texas 12 Fairfield 2

    Texas Tech 6 Army 3
Texas Tech 7 North Carolina 2
    Texas Tech 8 UCLA 2

Meanwhile, we have also seen the ultra competitive Arizona, Florida and TCU regionals of death among others. I do not think the committee did a great job of achieving balance this year. That said, if it works out for Texas, it is fine for me!

I think we win this Regional either way, but this certainly didn't hurt:

    Southern . . . 5 walks / 4 HBP
    AZ State . . . 8 walks / 3 HBP
    Fairfield . . . 11 walks / 6 HBP

It was amazing how poorly our competition's pitching staffs performed.

Coming in, the Texas regional looked a lot more competitive then it ended up being. Fairfield had only lost 3 games all year and had an incredible staff ERA, Arizona State is a traditional power and had a good though not great year. When the pairings were announced Texas for being the 2 seed overall got a solid regional. Frankly, I thought TCU got an easier regional than Texas and they crapped the bed against DBU and then Oregon State. Texas is so strong with its starters and bullpen that except for teams like Arkansas who just overpower everyone, the Horns come in with a huge built in advantage and that was particularly evident this past weekend.

Most teams have one ace who can match ours. We have 3 1/2, and really really solid bullpen guys as well.

I'm fine if we never have DBU in a regional. NEVER.... that team is a historical sleeper.

Agree. I watched yesterday against Fairfield - when you are given 17 baserunners for free, you don't have to get a lot of hits to score a bunch of runs.

I love DBU's coach, wouldn't mind having him here at Texas if Pierce were to leave for some reason.

It is going to be fascinating to see if South Florida plays us tough or if UT can keep the blowout streak going!

DBU was one of the first times I have seen an ump get on a player for admiring their grand slam...or any home run. Can't blame the kid for wanting to bask in his moment though...

I watched just about every Regional doing quite a bit of surfing with multiple TV's and there were a couple of times when the ump got out and waved players around (posing after a HR) or off the field (big strikeout). I think this was a point of emphasis for the umps. They see more and more of this (excessive bat flips) in MLB, so naturally these kids are going to emulate.

But yeah - I can't blame that DBU player. That moment was what most kids dream of and he absolutely demolished that pitch.

It goes to show you it is pretty darn hard to reach Omaha with only blow out victories. We came close with 4 out of 5!

We ultimately outscored opponents 49-12 giving us a +37 run margin! Although South Florida played us tough in game one of the super regional, 2021 Texas has officially surpassed 1982 Texas (see original post) for best pre-Omaha postseason with a high run margin (+37 > +31) and all wins coming without extra innings. Let's hope this translates well in Omaha!

Yes, the competition not exactly sterling for all 3 teams.

E Carolina was a good team, with some good pitchers. It was no cakewalk over them.

Agree with both. There are no bad teams in the super regionals and East Carolina was a great club this year. UT, UT and Vandy are all great teams who took care of business, and I am not taking anything away from any of the three, but I'd agree we definitely got favorable paths. As 3 of the top 4 seeds though, we technically were supposed to get more favorable paths anyway if the committee did their job right. One could look at it as the committee did their job right in our 3 cases and all 3 elite teams took care of business.
