I have mixed feelings on the portal. I feel if an athlete is in a situation where they are uncomfortable or something happens at their previous school to the point where it's affecting them and their well being then I understand the need to transfer and back them 100% but some players are just transferring because of playing time or other circumstances that can be fixed with hard work and communication but at the same time, I know it's hard being away from family and friends especially freshman so I really can't knock on any player. I support them regardless of the situation.

With that being said I do feel like the portal is hurting recruiting. I heard two college coaches say they don't need to recruit anymore because they can build a championship level team just by recruiting from the portal and it's very true so I think there should be limits within the portal for teams

I view the portal slightly different by sport. For baseball and softball the big issue for me is hitting and I suppose you could say the same thing for coaching changes. If I go to one school and the coach starts "fixing" my swing then you portal and the new coach wants you to do something totally different that will be detrimental to your psyche. I get in the box and start thinking instead of swinging and that's a problem.

Techniques for fielding are generally uniform across the sport, but man I've seen so many different swings out there if you try to change too often you just can't hit the ball. So personally I think unless you are in the portal to follow a coach it can't be great.

I like it. I think it finally gives fairness to the previously restricted sports. Student athletes now have the same abilities as non-athletes to say that a school or their professors or the city isn't for them. And if their coaches aren't right for them, then why make both parties miserable?

The last line makes me think that Jacobsen will continue at UT as grad student assistant?

(also makes me realize I've been spelling her last name wrong for a long time)

Apparently, MK Tedder has entered the transfer portal; not sure she played much this season; lately she seems to have been a pinch runner mainly, I believe.

Not surprised. I would also look for an Ellsworth transfer as well. And maybe.....Adams.

Adams quit the team; so, I think that's a given.

Seems like Ellsworth has been at Texas a long time; we are deep at catcher and first base, but seems like her hitting is what got her into games this season.

Ellsworth has been a dedicated player. I mean she gave up her senior year in high school to to come to Texas and help Connie Clark but it’s time for her to move on. We have some good freshman coming in, specifically Scott and Holmes who can help us. And these freshman are Mike White’s and he has to build his team. Ellsworth did go thru senior day and got her jersey, etc so this conversation may be a moot point!

I meant that Ellsworth will graduate transfer elsewhere - not that she would be back to Texas. That's a maybe, for sure. But you've graduated from your dream school. You have 1 year of eligibility. Your dream school has said thanks, but you should move on. Are you going to NOT play Division I softball if there is an opportunity at North Texas or Texas State because you want to stay loyal to the Longhorns?

Was really hoping Hope Trautwein would have made a decision by now (and it be Texas); felt pretty good after she started following Shea O'Leary on Instagram last week.

But, since then, Hope's been liking OU stuff on twitter left and right.

Apparently, one-time Texas verbal commitment Kyleigh Sand out of California is in the transfer portal after one season at U of Louisiana.

That is a huge disappointment. I was sure hoping we could pull her in but the rich just keep getting richer. She would have been a perfect fit with Shay and Sophia but I bet Coach White still pulls in a pitcher from the portal. Not sure what's left?

Bummer. You could see the interest on her part for UT with all the social media likes and follows. And then dead silence after UT's exit from the tournament. I'm sure that OU contacted her and said, "Hey can you hold on until we wrap up our title?". And what pitcher wouldn't want to go to a place that you have a better than 50% chance of repeating as champs and you have sluggers all in your lineup.

Welp. OU and OK-State have the wins to backup their attraction to other players. Gotta get better.

As racer foreshadowed, hearing Ellsworth is in fact in the portal along with Adams and Tedder.

Freshman pitcher Ryleigh White has entered the transfer portal:

I kinda figured. I believe the July 1st deadline for portal entry has something to do with this news. Sure could have used Trautwein.

    So now:
    1) O'Leary
    2) Simpson
    3) [pitcher from the transfer portal - but all the good ones are taken]
    4) Day

Vanessa Quiroga was a pitcher for her high school team with like a 25-3 record. She was listed as a utility player during her signing but I expect to see her in the pitching mix.

I'm gonna guess she wants to be closer to home. Interesting that her mother just put out a tweet a few weeks ago saying Ryleigh was in the best hands at Texas so I wonder what changed between last month and this month. I hope this means we have a transfer pitcher coming in because we are now very thin at pitcher.

I wonder if, like in the corporate world, our Coaches have end of year performance reviews with each player! In the case of Ryleigh she may have been told she did not meet expectations, received a hard love critique, was told she needed a lot of work in the off season and got her feelings hurt? She came to Texas with a high recruiting ranking and did not perform. I wish her the best in her career and actually hate to see her leave. She had so much potential and I believe Coach White could have developed her game to perform at a high level.

In fact I know that the players get a mid-season performance review. One of the friendly player's dad mentioned that to me while we were waiting for a game to start.

I had a gut feeling that R. White might move on because of a rough freshman year. But Mike White kept giving her games to pitch, which I thought meant he was showing her he had trust in her to get better. Reminded me of Grace Green in the COVID-shortened year. She came in highly ranked. Had ONE horrific inning and then gave up softball at the end of the season (still a UT student)

Explainable or not, the trend of our highest recruited pitchers leaving after one season has to be a cause for concern for future players. It’s certainly could be fuel for negative recruiting.

Can't speak for UT, but my daughter had a one on one end of year conversation with her coach. Hers went well, was given a summer workout regimen and was told she could be the leader of the team next year if she took charge. Others not so positive. Three from her class didn't have their scholarship renewed and was told they weren't coming back.

I would not be surprised at all if a hard conversation was had.

Another transfer I was hoping we had a shot to pick up. I can understand a player wanting to win a National Championship but my gosh this Oklahoma team is loaded with elite players already. Her playing time will, I would think, be limited compared to another team on the rise? Well anyway it is done and I like how Coach White is building the Longhorns in his third year. Sure wish we could pick up another pitcher though but I think that opportunity has already sailed. Hook’em Horns!

I mean this is interesting because she won't see the field very much due to the depth of OU and the infield is pretty much locked down and really every position at ou so I don't see where she would fit in. Great player but imo went to the wrong team if she wants playing time but then again she may just want the opportunity to chase a title.
