What's Herman doing these days?

Two part question - what's Herman doing these days - I remember someone saying he was hired by the C Bears as some sort of analyst (maybe head urine color analyzer?).

Secondly, when Texas canned John Mackovic I remember he was transferred to some job related to the planning of a new golf course, as under then Texas law, a coach could not be bought out and told to be off, only re-assigned to another job at the same pay.

Did that apply to Herman as well, or has the law changed such that he was paid the remainder of his over-timed contracted and shown the door, done and dusted by Texas?

So I take it no one know, or cares! I'm in the latter group, though I do still have the question about the payout ability on contracts now, or if they get re-assigned. I guess not as Herman isn't stumbling around campus working in the flower beds for 5 mill a year.

Now that would be a hoot - he'd have to keep doing the job as if he got fired he'd lose out, so he'd pay all his fellow groundskeepers to do the work while he slept in the tool shed!

    Duck,

When Mackovic was fired, I proposed to Deloss that either he or I (I would have loved it) walk him into the second floor office (one next to Earl would be ok), sit him down and tell him:

This is your office, complete with desk, phone and chair - he wouldn't need more than one chair because no one would ever come see him.

You have an office phone; wanna cell phone, you pay for it

Your parking is in the San Jacinto Garage - contract says we have to pay for it.

If the contract insists that we provide you a car, your Toyota Carolla will be delivered tomorrow.

No school credit card. No expense account. No computer.

You will be her Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 5 PM. You get an hour for lunch - don't abuse that time.

Under NO circumstances are you to enter Neuhaus Royal, the practice field, or the pressbox. With his ego, he wouldn't have lasted a month.

I wonder if there was some aspect of their contract along the lines that another job would have to have similar responsibilities, otherwise you could as stated, just make them a grounds keeper.

Now that would be a great idea for a show on ESPN 9, the Nueve! Head coach gets the boot, but can't be bought out so he's given a job in the grounds staff. The AD desperately wants him to get fired to save money, so tries to make him look bad in each show.

Every week is a hilarious episode of how our hero the sacked coach outwits that rascally AD and manages to hold onto his 100 grand per week salary.

    It's solid gold!

Nobody could/would ever consider Mackovic a "hero", not even after "roll left"

    Duck,

Sabre's answer is correct as far as it goes. However, during that month the coach would probably find work elsewhere. That is when the contract with Texas would kick in. The contract should include a clause that allows for an offset of money earned from any football-related work at a minimum. (I doubt if Texas contractual law will allow for total abandonment of all future pay.)

What happens, in reality, is what happened with Strong when he went to USF. USF signed him to a backloaded long-term contract which paid him a minimum while his Texas contract continued to pay him. I assume whatever the Bears are paying Herman will be deducted from the amount he can collect from Texas.

So he's still on salary, just doesn't have to come to work, and any earnings from urine color analysis are deducted from his salary, is that correct?

With that in mind, I hope he's earning a lot to save Texas $$$. What is the going rate for a Urine Color Analyst these days, it's been awhile since I hired one.

Are there professional fees or dues they owe each year to an industry trade association that would have to be included as well, to say the IBUCA (International Brotherhood of Urine Color Analysts)? And what of their equipment, the official IBUCA color chart of urine - would the cost of that be subtracted from his UT salary too?

It's all a hoot now - but remember, we all though his UCA skills showed an attention to detail that was going to stack the wins up like cordwood. Joke turned out to be on us!

    Correct

He was released from duties so he does not have to do anything not agreed to in the contract.

He gets reimbursed for anything not prohibited in the contract

A lot of the buyout amount depends on the terms of the buyout as I recall. I understand Texas paid Tom $15million to hit the trail. Someone may have better numbers and information.

I found him. Apparently, he's a pro golfer now. The golf binder seems to be working better than the football binder.

I heard he was removed from a golf course because he accused the majority of the players of not allowing their daughters to date his former players.
