That's funny! But don't let my wife find out.

I have a buddy with a spectacular place in Stone Canyon, north of Tucson for those that don’t know. It’s a Mickelson course. Gorgeous development. We’ve looked at it a few times. The houses, properties and views are fabulous. But I’m just not sure. Hard to leave SoCal.

To me the folks in PHX are different, weird. Just a different vibe. But I do like Tucson.

Stone Canyon is a beautiful area up in Oro Valley outside Phoenix proper IIRC. The golf course is absolutely top notch! But the dues are fairly steep. Great view of the mountains as well. Yes, Phil Mickelson and some investors bought the course several years back and refurbed the whole course and clubhouse.

Also, I like Tucson much better as well.

Sabre, you just lost the San Angelo (Goodfellow AFB) and Del Rio (Laughlin AFB) vote.

I couldn't remember all of them. There used to be a big one in Amarillo, where in the they trained all the Arabs pilots in the late 60s. 70s. & 80s. Incredibly long runway for them to try to stop on

The Arabians are at PNS now. You see them driving high end sports cars outside of base.

Hmm ... Amarillo AFB closed in 1968, so I don't know who would have been doing the training after that. The runway is insanely long, because it was built to accommodate B-52s. (When I was growing up in nearby Canyon, it wasn't unusually to see the occasional B-52 on a cross-country hop.) Anyway, it was a bit of a blow to the local economy when the AFB shut down and a common joke was "will the last person leaving Amarillo please shut off the gas."

Just internet buzz, but it’s looking more and more like the PAC doesn’t want any of the left-behinds. Not a single one of them.

ISU and KU might still have an outside shot at the B1G, but it’s just that—an outside shot. West Virginia, however, has a pretty fair chance at getting back in the ACC should they choose that route.

The most likely outcome: the Big 12 adds schools (Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, maybe even UCF and/or SMU). It may survive, just not as a “power” conference.

    Also, be aware:
    1. don't leave any trash laying about
    2. leave the wolves alone
    3. There is a den of western diamondbacks near the far western boundary that mainly come out at night so be careful
    4. Don't try to play with a mongoose if you see one, they are vicious and have a mean bite
    5. DO NOT harm the saguaros as these are protected by the state
    6. Keep an eye out for black bear and cougars as they usually come down from the mountains in the evening. They ain't pets!

    Have fun!

IMHO, 3 schools are key as to whether the SEC eats the whole pie:

    1. USC
    2. Ohio State
    3. Michigan

If USC bolts, goodbye Pac-12 as a major player.
If Ohio State and Michigan bolt, goodbye B1G as a major player.

If those 3 bolt to the SEC, the SEC = the Major Leagues, everything else = the Minors.

If those 3 stay, the B1G and the PAC can survive as big time players getting big time recruits and big time tv $$$$ contracts; combined on a roughly equal basis as the SEC. The population and tv markets support that. Of course, it would also help if Notre Dame joined the B1G. I think this holds, even if Clemson and FSU join the SEC.

Oh, USC is reportedly unsatisfied and could be longing for something bigger ...

Interesting thoughts. Would USC bolt without UCLA? USC's away games, assuming they go to the SEC, would, in some cases, be all the way across the country. Same for the teams going out to LA for a game. Michigan and tOSU to the SEC. Great addition, but that's adding a lot of teams and for balance, one more program is needed, but that is only my opinion. On the other hand, the TV revenue would be good having USC and perhaps UCLA in the SEC.

I think Michigan is the least likely to bolt. They seem to care a great deal about academics, and the SEC makes for a lousy fit. On the other hand, aside from being on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon Line, Ohio State would fit right in—football first. Playing in a Southern league, Ohio State would need to tone their notorious fan violence way down—except when they play Arkansas. Of course, they might lose their blood fued with Michigan (though not necessarily). It is also my sense that the B1G is on considerably stronger footing than the PAC. Ideas about a scheduling partnership between the B1G and PAC keep re-surfacing.

Great article by a guy in a broke state, working for a broke fishwrap, wanting us to listen to what is good for his school of choice, which has consistently entered into contracts they couldn't possibly comply with in a state whose legislature signs contracts that (for say $150 million) the state has no money to fund. (OK, they had $65,000 of it)

The Post needs to worry about the underhanded ******** in its own backyard. Why in the hell would the BigTen consider a broke school with arguably the second worst administration in D-1? They don't travel, have no money, very little TV appeal, but according to this moron would make a great match for the BigTen. Considering the intelligence level of the new BigTen Commissioner, he may be correct.

Not a chance that Ohio St. leaves their Michigan rivalry behind.

The B1G distributed the most $$$ last year (or 2019?) of all the conferences at $54M/program. The Pac 12 gave out $33M in the '19-'20 academic year. The SEC gave out $45.5M in that same time period.

The SEC is estimating $74M/program based on leaked documents. If the B1G added USC, UCLA, OR, and UW they'd lock down the entire West Coast. Grab UA and you get Phoenix and CU for Denver. That gives those West Coast teams some Eastern exposure they've been lacking with those 7pm and 10pm EST timeslots and the B1G is now spanning the country. The B1G Network, the top conference network which all programs have an equal share of would be significant. Still think ND could slip into the B1G too.

What all this is showing is that low attendance low performing schools are getting left in the dust. One has to wonder about schools already inside the tent (Vanderbilt, Rutgers). The B1G would have to buyout Rutgers who owns 1/14th of the B1G Network.

Funny to read an article from a newspaper based in the state that contains the first university to leave the Big 12. Maybe if CU hadn't bolted, the original 12 would still be in the Big 12 post-2025...

    Yeah really.

And taking it back another step, maybe if Arkansas hadn't bolted from the SWC...
(of course, the SWC in its final years had more troubles than the Big 12 has/had)

Arkansas doesn't deserve blame for the Big 12's problems since they were never in it. While I would have preferred them in the conference over Baylor, it would not have been enough to save the Big 12 over the last decade.

Now for a fun 'what if' scenario. Say the Big 12 never lost anyone, but the other conferences found a way to expand to current sizes. I wouldn't mind adding TCU as team #13 in the Big 12 South and BYU as team #14 in the Big 12 North.

    So, speaking of Nebraska ...

The corn heads need to be praying that the top few schools in the Big 10 don’t bolt for greener pastures. Or they will have to come crawling back to the Big 12, hat in hand, saying they are so looking forward to renewing their historic rivalry with Kansas St.

Will new conference honor KU's current Tier 3 BB rights?

Rumor is the BigTen, not PAC, but someone else has to drive the BigTen bus. The same rumor monger has State Penn going to the ACC.

Reminder that UNC takes in more basketball money than any other program and they are less than $20 million.

With the new TV rights, the Big 12 may only get $5-$10 million in total TV revenue. A $15-$20 million basketball haul could be significant for Kansas.

That's not additional money; what KU get now is about $12-14 a year. Compare that with the big schools taking that in for a home football game. Someone will be scrambling to find Mangino's number.

So this is how Big Mark Mangino gets back in the game. I think he's from Ohio or somewhere deep in Big Ten country. If they have the balls to hire him back, KU will be instantly on the football map.

Oh, and this is the conference whose most famous coach is Woody Hayes. Mangino's grouching at players and hurting their feelings is par for the course. Sensitive types are not catered to up there.

There have been some pretty damn good coaches through there. but most couldn't get quality assistants. Fat man is the only one that managed what he did.

Well, they are the school of Gayle Sayers, and they were stomping opponents' a$$es when Mangino was there. So, I suppose it can be done...
