To this day, the Notre Dame running back is still a bit dizzy...

"Uh oh! Hello! Bryant Westbrook! The important thing right now is to make sure Randy Kinder can find a place to lay down...”
    - Keith Jackson
Leland McElroy and VT’s Brian Edmonds agree. Have Randy Kinder and Ron Powlus spoken to each other since this play?
What made Westbrook great is he could lay the wood to opposing players and still manage to be one of the best cover guys in the NCAA. Can defensive backs today do both?

Can today's DBs do both? Well, Westbrook wasn't handcuffed by the targeting rule. I love that hit but it would have gotten him ejected today. Defensive players today cannot just let it all hang out for fear of a very harsh penalty.

In this clip on the other hand, both Westbrook and Brackens were probably clean by today's rules. Westbrook for sure, Brackens may have been reviewed for the last forearm action.

I posted this because Worster is in the photo of the 1969 Wishbone backfield.

However, as I did, I sadly recalled Street died of a heart attack several years ago and we lost Bertelsen a few months ago....

    Good point.

I miss the days where all the jersey had were the numerals and "TEXAS". I hate the Nike swoosh, conference logo, and would even remove the little Bevo at the collar, but alas those days are long gone.

Since you brought up uniforms.... I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but I always liked the burnt orange stripes on the pants during the Akers era.

    Flame away! :fiestanana:

That was indeed a vicious hit. Made me think back to the hit Peavy put on Marcus Dupree - wish I could find a clip of that hit. Anyone out there got a link to the Peavy hit on Dupree?

I have never seen one. It would be incomplete without the shot of Barry running out on the field until his headset cord and getting whiplash.

I tried at the time to get Deloss to give the Houston Chapter of Texas Exes the helmet Richard broke on Marcus. I told him I would pay $10,000 for that helmet and the letter of authenticity.

I was a witness to that incredible Peavy hit on Dupree in 1983. Hit was very violent and sent a message to ou that day. His helmet went flying off 10 + feet in the air!!

EDIT: apologize, my recollection was poor - his helmet did come off but did not go 10 feet the air...

Dupree was not the same after that, on or off the field!

I found 2 full game vidz and extracted the play out of them. Vid quality is... lacking. Sorry.

Those announcers were about 5 minutes late making the call on the play. Must've been getting shot refills or something. They didn't show the Swindler headset thing in the videos, @SabreHorn , so maybe the broadcast booth didn't cut to it in time.

Does that qualify as helmet to helmet contact?

I think the audio and video are not synced up because I heard the whistle when they were talking, soon after announcing the play.

Not shown on the video, but the different reactions at the time. Richard got up and went running over the the sideline to borrow a helmet. Marcus went slowly trotting tot he east sideline.

He helped Ricky Churchman become famous in the ‘77 TCU game. For those who aren’t familiar, Churchman came in for our starter Sam Ansley while Ansley changed a torn jersey. In his one career play at QB, Churchman handed off to Ham who scored on a 66-yard run. Jones was ten yards past the LOS before most people knew what happened. Strangely, we never tried that play again.
Somebody more web-savvy than I needs to find and post that viddy. It’s apparently beyond my skill set.
