When told of another pitcher transfer in, my daughter said, "Wait. I played against her in a game I think. Uhhh, is Texas desperate for pitchers?"

Now, that last sentence isn't a slight against Hulon. I'm sure that Dripping Springs creamed my daughter's team. It's just to her, not well-known pitchers transferring into the program......why?

Racer I was reading the post about the transfer and was thinking the exact same thing. Why? I thumbed thru Logan’s Twitter posts and found where she had attended Nyree White’s pitching school. Nyree is Mike White’s daughter. Could have been some influence there? She has 3 years of eligibility remaining and looks very average on paper. Maybe Coach feels like he can develop her?

We need depth, that’s for sure. Happy to have some options.

I remember the first season Connie fielded 5 pitchers (!) and one of the old guard HS coaches said to me as a knock on that decision, "No team has ever made it to the WCWS with 5 pitchers". Now today, it's "we HAVE to have 5 pitchers!"

Adams quit on the team 2/3 into the season, okay she wasn't probably coming back for her bonus year. Jacobson using her bonus season with us, okay need to plan for that. But White transferring in summer, that was tipping point of "Ugh, we need to another arm, somewhere"

    MK Tedder to Samford

I tried to include a news link, but every time I do the forum engine doesn't like something about it.

I'm making a couple of linear assumptions here, but my daughter routinely catches for a friend who takes from Nyree. Nyree asked my daughter if she could catch for another pitcher who plays at Houston which she did 2 or 3 times earlier this summer.

Because my daughter gets asked to catch for so many people she doesn't remember her name, but I believe this is the same girl. What are the chances two Houston pitchers are taking from Nyree this summer? Anyway, my daughter said she is the real deal. Good velocity, good placement & good movement. Not quite as good as her former teammate Danielle Serna from Austin who ended up at CSU, but still probably the 2nd best pitcher she's caught.

Just thought I'd throw that out there even though it may be useless info. :smile1:

I hope you are right Vol! I believe in Coach Whites best judgement. This is a post from Nyree from 6/30 doing a little promoting for Logan. Not sure who the catcher is here.

Still upset Texas couldn't flip Serna. Mike White could've tapped into so much potential that seems Colorado state really hasn't gotten into. I was hoping she would enter the portal and join us here but she is a very loyal player.

A really good interview with Estelle Czech and her experience with the transfer process.

Especially with the need for pitchers the Longhorns had........it was ME, not you!

Oh well, best wishes to Miranda.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Samford as one of her besties from the Horns, MK, has transferred there as well as Miranda's girlfriend is already on the team.

Not sure if it's coincidental, but the timing seems so odd as Texas just put out its Fall roster. Not sure exactly when she graduated from Texas, but I thought summer classes ended over a week or so ago. Seems like she could have entered the transfer portal weeks/months ago (but, perhaps not as a specified grad-transfer).

I actually looked at her Instagram over a week ago and she seemed to be touring Yellowstone. Other boards had noted in the past that she referred to herself as "former softball player" or something like that, so it seemed as if her softball days were behind her.

Arizona is also a possibility as her sister is a frosh there.

My understanding is that she burned bridges when she left the Texas program. She
surely must regret that now with NIL $$ that would have been available for the "face of the program." She left a lot of money on the table.

I'm pretty sure Miranda graduated this last Spring. She must have been attending remote classes from Alabama.

Then definitely strange that she didn't submit her name into the transfer portal sooner. Guess the July 1 deadline didn't really matter for her as that new immediate eligibility rule applies only to first-time transfers.

I thought I had read something that those players who opted out of last season (in all sports) did so for a specific reason, but can't remember the details. It obviously preserves one season of eligibility.

Just my opinion, but the unfortunate part is that she tied up scholarship money all of the 2020-21 academic year that could have gone to someone who wanted to play at Texas.

So she opted out, stayed on scholarship which for her I assume was a full or pretty close to full ride, moved to another state, got her degree and bolted? Quite frankly, if true, thats pretty $hitty. Just my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. I mean from her side it's a smart move but just out of respect and morals it's something you just don't do. That scholarship could've been used for someone actually playing.

Softball is a sport where partial scholarships are the norm. For an elite player like Elish, I can only assume she has always been a player on full scholarship at both Oregon and Texas (or gets more funds than any other player on her team). So, having those scholarship funds tied up last Spring on a player who opted out due to COVID concerns (which I don't believe was the true reason for her not playing) compounds how many missed opportunities there may have been (financially) for other players.

Believe me, covid had nothing to do with her opting out but it's old news now and I'm happy with what we have.

I _think_ that for the Covid bonus year, programs were allowed to go over the scholarship limit. But yeah, being with the team through Fall ball, charting plays alongside the coaches, being interviewed on LHN about being excited to make up for the lost, previous year and then just "opting out"? That left a sour taste in my mouth. But, we do have a tendency to bash our "ex's", so I guess I gotta let it go.

I personally don't hold a grudge if its not a fit and they leave. I get that a lot of people do but in this particular situation I might also. For whatever stupid reason I didn't know she was still on scholarship so I'm surprised then shocked to find out she's now going to play elsewhere. She played one full season and essentially got three years of education and her degree from UT for free. I get that the covid year wasn't her fault but it still all counts the same. I guess if I could figure out a way for my daughter to leverage a deal like that I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Sour grapes here and I don't know why...it wasn't my money. Oh well, moving along now.
