Kinda funny, an exciting time to be at UT but I’m leaving. Go figure.

Didn't realize Ingram had taken his fumbles over to USC...

Apparently these young bucks didn't get the memo.
Off subject but loosely related and worth noting....a friend related a story of someone who put their house up for sale recently for $300,000 (in Lindale, TX (near Tyler) and it sold sight unseen in a couple days for 600k... someone out of Cali.
Many stories like this all over Texas.

Housing will reverse. That is, unless Austin really is the second coming of Silicone Valley. But I just don’t see it…I think a painful reversal is coming.

    Jake Smith

While admittedly I don’t have any inside information, on the surface, his decision suggests to me that he wasn’t up for fighting for the job at Texas. My initial reaction, perhaps unjustified, is that kids these days seek instant gratification and validation. In a different time, Smith would not have considered changing schools, and would’ve done whatever he needed to do to get and stay on the field, and to prosper.

    Duke,

Smith obviously did not get your email informing him that no matter where he goes, he MUST:

    1) Catch the damn ball

    2) Run the right route

    3) Make the correct reads

    4) Come back and help his QB

Heres FPI top 10. with UT at 7.
I typically haven't liked FPI....mainly because it never favors us....
I have noticed it is actually a fairly decent predictor of success...primarily due to weight of experienced/returning players.
In this case, though, I think we are too high. To my knowledge, FPI doesnt account for things like complete coaching turnover and new schemes installed...which should be weighted.
We also have one of the toughest schedules in the country....though I believe that is a part of FPI calculation.
Notables ou 3, aggy 6, ISU 9. This is an updated list and has ou dropping 1spot and ISU curiously dropping 5 places.

    FWIW....

Updated FPI rankings: Can anyone take down Alabama?

Good a place to put it as any. Ben Davis out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot.

Vol Horn 4 Life Good Bye To All The Rest!

Ok, so I heard my first negative thought about Sark. I have zero data on this but wanted to see if anyone else has heard this. On The Horn they went through Sarks W/L record against the best and most innovative coaches/teams. As head coach he had won exactly 1 of those "big games" out of what sounded like about 15 games.

Has anyone heard this? If this is true and Sark is still the same type of HC, we'll lose to OU 4 out of every 5 times and one other game every year.

If true here’s hoping he has learned from that record but regardless I already prefer him over our last two coaches.

    The 2020 Texas rewatchables:

So excited for football to start, I thought I would rewatch some of the key games from 2020 to remind myself what we had last year that is returning. I have watched OU and Iowa State so far.

    The good:
Joshua Moore - JM and Eagles were the best WR performers in these games. Jordan Whittington was solid for short yardage. It is clear that Texas needs a big body threat to step up this season in the WR room. I am hoping Omiere is as good as advertised and healthy (anyone with an update).

Overshown - played like a DUDE. 19 tackles, 1.5 TFL, pass defended, and INT.

corner coverage - corners were better than I remembered. Most big pass plays given up were bad coverage by safeties or Juwan Mitchell not getting into passing lanes.

Jamison the return man - Jamison was good in the return game. 23.5 yards per kick return.

    The ok:
Run blocking/running - 4.1 yards per carry average is not bad, but a ton of that was Sam creating on busted plays. OU kicked our *** in pass coverage, but overall the line wasn't too bad. Bijan did not show out in either game but he was clearly not given enough reps.

BJ Foster - he probably deserves better than ok but safety play was so bad it is hard not to be biased.

    The bad:
Safeties - tons of blown coverage and missed tackles. Josh Thompson was the best of what I saw. Chris Brown delivered a lot of big hits but he was not great in coverage. Sterns was worse.

Linebacker run fits - all LBs were pretty bad at run fits, allowing RBs to get into space and generally not stepping up on run plays.

Juwan Mitchell pass coverage - see above. Really not good. 0 passes defended in either game.

On to the next game ....

Sark said the team was cramping at practice and needed to be better hydrated.
They must have removed the pee color coded charts from the urinals.

For all the crap Tom took for those charts, they were a functional reminder to the guys about continuously maintaining hydration.
